Williams gets a second chance to prove himself....

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed offensive tackle and former first-round draft pick Mike Williams on Tuesday, giving them much-needed depth along the line.

Williams was the fourth player picked in the 2002 draft, but Buffalo cut him last month after four disappointing seasons.

In Jacksonville, he could push starting right tackle Maurice Williams for playing time but more likely will replace backups Mike Pearson and Ephraim Salaam.

Pearson and Salaam each started games last season before getting benched in favor of rookie Khalif Barnes. They are free agents and unlikely to re-sign with the Jaguars.

Mike Williams started five games for the Bills last season, four at right tackle and one at left guard. He started 42 games at right tackle over the previous three years.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Wow...  Definitely one of my favs...  He's been on a couple Stegeman GBRFL Championship squads, the BLACKSmiths ('99) and The Two Jakes ('04).  Overall stand-up guy, whose play I've always admired.  His presence on the gridiron will surely be greatly missed.  Good luck, Jimmy, in whatever direction life takes you.  You've given me A LOT of joy down through the years...

Filling in the wholes at wideout...  From "The REAL Feed":

Jaguars sign WRs Edwards, Hymes (AP)
Yahoo! News: Democratic Party (19.05.2006 17:00)
The Jacksonville Jaguars added two veteran wide receivers Friday, signing unrestricted free agents Troy Edwards and Randy Hymes. The signings come eight days after Jimmy Smith retired. Edwards played for the Jaguars in 2003 and 2004, and played in three games for the Lions in 2005. In 92 NFL gam...

These are two interesting signings.  Given how things are at wideout in Jacksonville, knowledge of these signings is worth tucking in a back pocket.  Edwards showed some flashes with this very team in '03 and '04 and Hymes has shown flashes in his time with the Ravens.

Nope, no love for Pearman.  I think he will continue to be a PR/KR and 3rd down back......

Besides, Drew was not involved in beating the crap out of that nerd.....  ALLEGEDLY.....

DD... I was just kidding about the Denny's thing... hence the   at the end.

Steg... Mo Drew was (or was not) part of a group of people that allegedly targetted a foreign-looking student who was working on a laptop at a Denny's restaurant and started a fight.

Charges dropped:
http://www.jaguars.com/story/5243.asp

Anyway, I like Drew as a player -- he's got a bit more bulk than Pearman and is probably a better pure runner, but Pearman is a great utility-type player.
