March 13, 2006 4:39 PM ET Bengals: Jackson signs four-year deal The News Safety Dexter Jackson has signed a four-year contract with the Bengals worth $7.6 million, according to ESPN. The Bengals ranked 26th out of 32 teams in passing yards allowed last season, something which obviously irked coach Marvin Lewis. Jackson is best known for being named Super Bowl MVP for the Buccaneers two years ago, but has missed 15 games the past two seasons because of injuries.

They did it again. Not long after finding out that starting MLB Odell Thurman will be suspended for the first 4 games of the season for a violation of the league's policy regarding substances of abuse, the Bengals used their 2007 third round pick on Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks in the supplemental draft. Brooks was kicked off the Virginia team for undisclosed violations of team policy. Brooks also was charged with marijuana possession during his time at Virginia. Thurman may have either failed a drug test, or missed a scheduled drug test (same as failing the test), but regardless of why he is being suspended, it is clear that he was already in the program since the 4 game suspension is not a penalty for a first offense. The Bengals needed help at the position since Thurman will be out and rookie AJ Nicholson has legal issues of his own. Brooks is clearly a talented player, but his performance declined (because of injuries and weight issues) each year of college. He had hoped to play himself back into a top prospect his senior year, but never got the chance. The Bengals certainly are setting a dangerous precedent by ignoring character issues when choosing players for their roster.

This really is getting to be a joke... From "The REAL Feed": Drunken boating puts Steinbach among booked Bengals ESPN: NFL (08.08.2006 02:31) Bengals guard Eric Steinbach was arrested and charged with boating under the influence on the Ohio River, becoming the fifth Cincinnati player in three months accused of breaking the law. ... Look, with all due respect to our marine authorities, I can understand the kind of havoc a drunk boatsman can wreak on the seas,... but this is getting ridiculous. I'm starting to wonder if the authorities there are out lookin' for Bengals to nab. The team is finally getting it together again, and now it's Cincinnatians getting in the way. Come on! Get off their jocks already, and get off the jocks already!
