Eagles In-Season Report

Not that it should come as any surprise, but Donte Stallworth will be starting opposite Reggie Brown at WR against the Texans on Sunday.

Look for plenty of offense from the Eagles as their offensive line should wear out the Texans defensive line in fairly short order.

I like the Eagles defense in this one too.

Might Moats see a little action given Westbrook's swollen knee???  According to "The REAL Feed",... YES...

Bad news for the Eagles... not only did they lose a key division game, at home, but they may have lost Jevon Kearse for the season. It appears that he may have torn ligaments in his knee. Early in OT, Kearse hobbled off the field with leg cramps, and then came back a play later to assist on a sack. During the sack, teammate Mike Patterson rolled onto Kearse's left knee and Kearse was carted off the field in obvious pain. The Eagles do have great depth at the DE position, so the injury won't be as devastating as it could have been.

The Eagles, already short on CBs, had to replace Rod Hood who suffered a severe bruise of the heel. Joselio Hanson and Dexter Wynn both had to step in and play expanded roles.

LJ Smith had more than 100 receiving yards, but suffered a mild shoulder injury in the first quarter. He kept playing and should be ready to go next week.

Brian Westbrook, who missed practice with a bruised knee this week, played the entire game and showed no ill effects.

Westbrook's knee still givin' him fits... and has him questionable for this week's game on the current injury report.  From "The REAL Feed":

Eagles RB Westbrook misses practice with sore knee
ESPN: NFL (20.09.2006 18:09)
Eagles running back Brian Westbrook missed practice Wednesday because of a sore knee and is questionable for the game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Eagles pass defense getting more and more suspect...  Currently from atop "The REAL Feed":

Injuries deplete Eagles' secondary
News Sentinel: Sports - Football (22.09.2006 08:34)
One cornerback wasn't in the NFL last year. Another has never played in a game. The nickel back didn't make the original roster. Just two games into the season, the Philadelphia Eagles' secondary is decimated by injuries.

Brian Westbrook practiced today (limited) and expects to be able to go on Sunday.  Also Donte Stallworth tweaked a hamstring in practice today, but doesn't anticipate any problems for Sunday.

What happened to Stallworth this week???  Did that hamstring put him out of commission???  ...  Oh, and, also, on the official injury report, it indicates that his injury is a "hip" injury.

Well, there's the answer on Stallworth...  He was a late scratch.  They say it was a hamstring.  I guess its saying "hip" on the injury report was a typo.  From "The REAL Feed":

Stallworth scratched from Eagles' lineup

I wouldn't worry too much about Westbrook... he had a "questionable" 3 TDs including a 71-yard run (with an incredible stiff-arm that gained him an extra 35 yards). I hope all the Westbrook critics are looking themselves in the mirror right now. I said he was a top 10 back this season, and so far he's more than proving it. Using a standard scoring system, he's the #1 fantasy RB in the NFL through 3 weeks of the season. (Of course, the injury status is always a concern, but he's showing he's able to play through some pain and still produce.)

Donte Stallworth missed practice today as he continues to rest a slight hammy injury. Big Red said the MRI shows that it isn't serious, but it's sensitive enough that he doesn't want to risk anything right now. Watch the practice reports for Friday and Saturday before making a decision on him. He's still listed as questionable. If he can practice, then start him against an atrocious GB secondary. If he can't practice, then you might want to find another option this week.

Unless the coach decides to deactivate a couple of them an hour before gametime.  Westbrook is out as is Sheppard.

It's hurting them already as Buckhalter, running well enough, has fumbled twice inside the opponent's five yard line.

According to this report off "The REAL Feed", it looks like Stallworth's sore hammy remains quite tender:

Three receivers hurt in Green Bay-Philadelphia game
SI.com: NFL (03.10.2006 00:39)

I wonder how long this hammy is going to hold Stallworth back this year...

Furthermore, according to this article, it looks like Reggie Brown suffered an even worse injury.

According to Andy Reid's 12:00 News Conference (a real treat for anyone who has never listened

Brian Westbrook - Was deactivated right before the game. Was a gametime decision after Westbrook tried to warm up. He's doing well now, well enough to practice, but Reid will hold him out of Wednesday's practice anyway. (Conspiracy theorists here in Philly are thinking that Reid didn't want to risk further injury with the short week of preparation for Dallas--a division rival--and figured that Green Bay could be handled without Westbrook. A very nice theory.) I'll eat my favorite Eagles hat if he doesn't suit up for the Dallas game.

Donte Stallworth - Had an MRI today. Still has a strained hamstring. Won't practice tomorrow. Status is day-to-day. His hands were not x-rayed, so there's no telling why he might have dropped the catchable passes last night.

Reggie Brown - Is OK and is cleared to practice tomorrow. X-rays on his shoulder last night showed no damage. Probably just a bruise that shouldn't be a problem.

Lito Sheppard - Will practice tomorrow despite being deactivated for the Packer game. Expect him to return for Dallas.

Rod Hood - Still hurting with the bruised heel. Probably won't practice tomorrow. Will be day-to-day.

Dudes, can someone please keep me "posted" regarding Westbrook's status for today's game so that when I wake up (probably like 10 minutes before game time) I can quickly check in here and see if he's playing or NOT???  I'd really like to know going into the games for the week whether he is or isn't,... BUT I GOTTA go to get a "decent" night's sleep (i.e. a "solid" five and a half hours ... ).  Thanks in advance, fellas!

I know he didn't practice Friday... his availability will likely be announced sometime prior to the game today. Unfortunately I'll be at a "family event" until kickoff and then am watching the game at someone else's house, so I won't be able to update you.

I hope you guys are enjoying the Eagles Fantasy Specific Analysis on the Team Reports page each week... Here are a couple gems from this week:

Quote:
Hank Baskett: (Low #4) This could be the week he makes his first NFL TD catch. Look for him to get a little less attention from the defense than some of the other receivers. He's got the trust of McNabb and should be able to get up and over Anthony Henry.
He caught 3 balls for 112 yards and an 87-yard TD. Ironically, he didn't get up an over anyone, as he was being covered by 6'5" safety Pat Watkins for the big one.

and...

Quote:
For the IDPers, consider using DE Darren Howard this week. He was a monster in preseason, but has been quiet so far in the regular season. This week is his coming-out party as he lines up against a Dallas RT that isn't playing well.
Howard was huge this week. Four solos, three assists, and a couple of sacks. If you get fantasy points for being flat-out disruptive and forcing a number of double-teams, Howard probably got you even more points.

While there were rumors flying around following the game regarding Westbrook and a possible scope for his knee (sidelining him for 3-4 weeks), Andy Reid mentioned on Monday that Westbrook came out of the game in good shape with only a little bit of swelling. Their plan for right now is to keep doing what they've been doing and "hope it goes away on its own"!?! Anyway, he's probably going to be a gametime decision again this weekend...

On another note, last night during halftime of MNF, the ESPN crew noted that Donovan McNabb has put together (statistically) the BEST five game stretch by a QB, in the history of the NFL. Wow! (And New Orleans just lost its starting SS for the season too.)
