Dolphins Offseason Report

The Dolphins started their house-cleaning yesterday. They released 9 veterans including QB Trent Green and WR Marty Booker. They really went after the offensive and defensive lines, releasing DT Keith Traylor, DT Anthony Bryant, and DT Marquay Love, along with OT LJ Shelton, OT Joe Toledo, OT Anthony Alabi, and OT Marion Dukes. Aside from Traylor and Shelton, these were young players with some upside still, so this may be evidence of an immediate change in philosophy for the Dolphins.

They are now $31 million under the cap and are going to make a huge splash in free agency. Look for them to bring in the likes of Alan Faneca, Ruben Brown, and in Parcells wet dream, Flozell Adams. On the defense, I expect they will go after Jared Allen on the line and Dansby, Briggs for the LB corp. Parcells can make a huge difference in one year by making the cuts and signing a few of the names above. Not to mention, he has the #1 pick in the draft which he can turn into more picks. |
| If the team keeps the #1 pick, they'll need a lot of that cap room to sign whichever player they draft with the out-of-control signing bonuses that the top pick now demands. Or, as DD pointed out, the Fins could trade their #1 overall pick to Dallas (as the rumors have it now) for both of the first-rounders Dallas owns--which would also require some hefty salary cap room. I'll be very surprised if the Chiefs don't slap a tag on Jared Allen.
