Aso gets "exclusive" tag: EXCLUSIVE TAG FOR ASOMUGHA The Raiders didn't simply apply the franchise tag to cornerback Nnamdi Asomougha. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, they've used the "exclusive" version of the tag, which prevents Asomugha from negotiating with any other teams. As a result, the tender changes from the average of the five highest-paid cornerbacks based on 2007 cap numbers to the same average based on 2008 cap numbers. This means that the one-year tender will be worth, at a minimum, $9.8 million. And if someone like Asante Samuel signs a contract with a big 2008 roster bonus in lieu of a big signing bonus, the number will nudge even higher. The only player hit with the exclusive tag in 2007 was Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney. In 2004, the Raiders used the exclusive franchise tag on cornerback Charles Woodson. pft http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

Well, if the Raiders were set on Walker, here's some possible insight as to why they threw so much money at him. Someone was going to do it: When it became apparent Denver would release Javon Walker and he would become a free agent, Michael Smith of ESPN.com reported "At least 10 teams were in contact with Javon Walkers agent when he was released by the Denver Broncos including all four NFC East clubs, according to a source." I have read the 49ers, Bills, Panthers, and Vikings also reached out to Walker's agent Kennard McGuire regarding Walker. And that does not include the Oakland Raiders who ended up signing Walker. By my count, that is almost half of the teams in the NFL that had showed interest in signing Walker. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/13415

| From the article: The release of a running back wasn't surprising; the identity of that back was Not really. The deal between Rhodes and the Raiders was that Rhodes would restructure but would be released if the Raiders drafted McFadden. Rhodes wanted the chance to do more than sit as an insurance policy. I'd expect Jordan to be dropped, too. The Raiders have DMAC, Fargas, M. Bush (who is ready to go).

McFadden will light up Nation from Inside BayArea.com http://www.insidebayarea.com/sports/ci_9142056 Of Fantasy interest: -For all the Web chatter about McFadden's slight build and spindly legs, he was incredibly durable at Arkansas while Dorsey was in and out of the LSU lineup with myriad leg issues. If you're looking at the injury-risk factor, the Raiders definitely took the right guy. -Common misconception: Smallish running backs are more prone to get hurt playing in the NFL. Anybody ever remember Napoleon Kaufman having a serious injury? On a grander scale, Walter Payton was 5-10, 202. Barry Sanders, 5-8, 203. Curtis Martin, 5-11, 205. Injuries are the luck of the draw in football, regardless of size. -Will there be enough work for Justin Fargas and Michael Bush behind McFadden? Ask Felix Jones, who ran for 1,162 yards and scored 11 touchdowns on 133 carries as McFadden's Arkansas backup.
