Bengals Offseason Report
« on: Apr 1st, 2008, 7:45pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

Here we go... with the hapless cats...  From "The REAL Feed", first there's this...

Lewis: Bengals prepared to move on without 85
ESPN: NFL (01.04.2008 15:16)
If Chad Johnson decides to sit out the season, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said Tuesday the team is prepared to move on without him.

...And, then, there is this...

Embattled Bengals WR Henry back in court (AP)
Yahoo! News: Democratic Party (01.04.2008 11:41)
A Cincinnati Bengals player who has frustrated his team with past traffic violations was back in court last week. Wide receiver Chris Henry was ticketed for driving with expired Kentucky license plates. He appeared in Hamilton County Municipal Court and paid $149, according to court records. NFL...

ALL the... in the world, but can't renew his auto registration on time...

The news on Johnson may not be a bad thing, though.  The team may be better off moving on without him, especially with Houshmandzadeh (a guy I've never been high on, as many of you know, but whom I'm sold on going into this upcoming season) coming on strong.  If they can just corral Henry and get him under control, they really would not need Johnson.

The Bengals finally cut ties with Chris Henry after yet another incident -- this time aggravated assault...

I imagine that the latest incident (if he's charged) will result in a lengthy suspension from the league (given that he had an 8-gamer last fall). Don't see much fantasy value for Henry any more.

Bengals sign Doug Gabriel:
Receiver Doug Gabriel, who was out of the NFL last season, signed a one-year contract Tuesday with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Bengals added Gabriel to their thin receiving corps as week after they released No. 3 receiver Chris Henry last week following his latest arrest.

Good luck to Gabs.  With coverage on Housh and Ocho, maybe he'll get a nice shot here.  All the best to him.

BOLD words of wisdom... from the guy who would be the primary beneficiary of what he suggests, mind you.  From "The REAL Feed":

Houshmandzadeh: Bengals should trade Johnson
ESPN: NFL (17.04.2008 15:25)
Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh said Thursday it would be best if the Cincinnati Bengals and disgruntled receiver Chad Johnson parted ways.

The rhetoric coming out of the Bengals' camp is getting more forceful...  This time it's bossman calling Johnson's bluff!  From "The REAL Feed":

Lewis says Chad Johnson should keep his word and sit out

Isn't anybody NOT a thug on this team...???  From "The REAL Feed":

BROOKS ACCUSED OF PUNCHING WOMAN
Sporting Life: NFL (02.05.2008 07:11)
Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Ahmad Brooks is accused of punching a woman in the face.

Wow!  I just saw the ESPN coverage of this.  What a jackrump this guy is!  This guy is such a self-absorbed child.  Palmer and Houshmandzadeh were OBVIOUSLY disgusted.  The Bengals ought to just cut him.

A "Johnson" watch... for the heck of it...  From off "The REAL Feed":

Bengals' Johnson participates in first full practice
ESPN: NFL (04.08.2008 15:58)
Bengals Pro Bowl receiver Chad Johnson took part in his first full drills of training camp Monday in Georgetown, Ky., having sat out the first week with a sore ankle.

Johnson may yet get his wish not to play for the Bengals this year...  From "The REAL Feed":

Bengals WR Chad Johnson hurt in loss (AP)
Yahoo! News: Democratic Party (17.08.2008 23:13)
Pro Bowl receiver Chad Johnson strained his left shoulder Sunday night during the Detroit Lions' 27-10 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, who now have their top two receivers and their starting tailback limited by injuries. Johnson landed awkwardly on his left side after cornerback Brian Kelly...

So much for all the rhetoric about getting quality people on the team. When all is said and done, it's more about ability than character.
