ESPN: NFL (04.03.2009 22:10)
Linebacker Takeo Spikes re-signed on Wednesday with the San Francisco 49ers, who also signed veteran quarterback Damon Huard shortly after being spurned by Kurt Warner.

Starting QB talk... from "The REAL Feed":

Hill, Smith have early advantage in 49ers' starting QB race
NFL.com (20.03.2009 19:22)
No time is too early to start the 49ers' seemingly annual QB competition -- not even a few hours into the first day of the first minicamp of coach Mike Singletary's tenure.

Even though it seems like it is advantage Hill, the QB situation remains up in the air and likely will for some time... according to this report that currently tops "The REAL Feed":

Niners' new offensive coordinator in no rush to pick starting QB
NFL.com (02.05.2009 21:49)
Jimmy Raye isn't worried about choosing the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback right now. He's more interested in making sure that quarterback has an offense to run.

I post this (as opposed to others) because I think this really is a possible destination for Vick... and it's from a LOCAL source on "The REAL Feed":

Vick with 49ers? No one is saying no
The Sacramento Bee: Sports (22.05.2009 04:25)
SANTA CLARA - Coach Mike Singletary on Thursday did not rule out the possibility of someday adding Michael Vick to the 49ers' roster. But he said he hasn't spent a lot of time thinking about the controversial quarterback, either."I know it's out there, but I've really been thinking so much about ...

The quarterback battle in San Fran is going to be interesting to watch.  It seems that Alex Smith is starting to get some props, while Shaun Hill still SEEMS to be the #1 guy (by a nose hair).

I am surprised the 49ers did not pursue another QB this offseason more aggressively.  (They knew Kurt Warner was going to stay in Arizona)

Opinion piece for sure, but a very worthwhile read...  At the very least, it'll have you rooting for this guy who's apparently always had an up-Hill climb... From a LOCAL source on "The REAL Feed":

I typically don't go about reporting signings of rookies taken after the first round, but I am told this one is notable insofar as this guy Coffee really is somewhat of a carbon copy of Gore and really could potentially fill his shoes if Gore were to go down and he were called upon...  From "The REAL Feed":

49ers ink third-round pick RB Coffee to four-year deal
