What are your thoughts on this development, Eagles' fans? From "The REAL Feed": Source: Donovan McNabb pins extension on improvement ESPN: NFL (23.02.2009 17:10) Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb and Eagles brass held a lengthy meeting last week, where last season's Week 12 benching and the subject of a contract extension were discussed, a source told ESPN's Michael Smith.

Arrington! Assuming Arrington is 100%, he showed some serious flashes last year and reminds me much more of a Westbrook-type player than any of the others they listed and, moreover, has the size and, more importantly, experience the kiddies in Philly, McCoy and, say, Booker, don't have. If given the chance (in Philly and Westbrook is on his way out, or somewhere), I could honestly see his career going like Thomas Jones's or the Barber Tiki's did. ...

I too like Arrington if he's healthy, but there's no sense of urgency for the Eagles right now. There are enough backs still on the market that they can sit back and wait to gauge the progress that Westbrook's ankle is making. They'll also give McCoy a chance to show his worth and Booker can work to develop a better understanding of the offense. If the Eagles do sign a RB, I think they'd be better served by going with someone more like Edgerrin James, Samkon Gado, or DeShaun Foster ... a bigger guy who could complement McCoy better.

This is, of course, sad news, but also noteworthy for fantasy footballers playing in leagues with the commonplace D/ST format. From "The REAL Feed": McDermott takes over Eagles' defense for recovering Johnson NFL.com (24.07.2009 13:39) Sean McDermott will replace Jim Johnson as the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive coordinator, the team announced Friday, two days before the start of training camp. I'm guessing this has to affect the value of the Eagles' D going into this season, no???

| Jeff, do you think, from a fantasy perspective, this sad development with Ingram enhances Celek's value at all???

My quick take,... for the Eagles you can spin this positive, or you can spin this negative. For fantasy, you can spin this positive, or you can spin this negative. Without piling the assumptions on too high and getting in too deep, my only thought is that we KNOW how impatient Philly, especially, Eagle fans can be, especially with McNabb, an impatience that the team management has even exhibited, mind you, with backups far inferior and, at least, sexy than Vick and most notably just last year when McNabb was benched. Anyway, just my thoughts without laying it on too thick too fast... With that said, let me append this related piece which is currently atop "The REAL Feed": Line of Scrimmage: Vick Signing Brings More Questions Than Answers The Sports Network: NFL (13.08.2009 22:06)

Steg- This situation is going to be interesting to watch. From a fantasy perspective, I have no idea what to expect from Vick. I am not even sure what position he is going to play. He could line up as a RB or FB. He could then either run it or throw it. He could line up as WR. OR, he could just sit on the bench. Personally, as an Eagles fan, I am not happy with the signing. He MAY prove to be a great player again, but I do not want to root for him. However, I have no doubt at some point I will be cheering a play he makes because I am a HUGE Eagles fan and so is my son.

I think that Merrill Hoge's take is right that, based on the structure of the contract, the big second-year option, and the team's incessant rhetoric that Vick is a "quarterback" combined with McNabb's well-documented increasingly tenuous tenure with the team and, moreover, the presumable comparability of a younger McNabb's game with Vick's, Vick, while perhaps seeing some time as a gadget player this year, is being viewed as a much more suitable and skilled backup and ultimately heir apparent to McNabb than Kolb, who has shown nothing to instill any confidence in the team.
