What are your thoughts on this development, Eagles' fans? From "The REAL Feed":

Source: Donovan McNabb pins extension on improvement
ESPN: NFL (23.02.2009 17:10)
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb and Eagles brass held a lengthy meeting last week, where last season's Week 12 benching and the subject of a contract extension were discussed, a source told ESPN's Michael Smith.

Brown doin' the right thing and still gettin' the "job" done despite an unsettled situation...  From "The REAL Feed":

Brown still isn't happy, but he'll be at Eagles minicamp this week
NFL.com (28.04.2009 14:35)
Unhappy cornerback Sheldon Brown said he'll report to the Philadelphia Eagles' mandatory minicamp this weekend so he's prepared to play somewhere this season. And he knows he might still be in Philadelphia -- and not playing.

Westbrook already ailing...  From "The REAL Feed":

Agent: Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook to undergo surgery
ESPN: NFL (03.06.2009 18:52)
Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook will have surgery to clean up some bone spurs in his right ankle, according to his agent Todd France.

I know Westbrook plays through anything,... but I'd definitely monitor the situation AND bump McCoy up my rankings accordingly...

This is definitely HUGE news.  This has been an injury that has been going on and on.  I would think IF Westbrook is back by week one, he may be limited.  In addition, they are definitely going to be limiting the carries.  McCoy's value definitely goes up!

I guess the Eagles actually knew what they were doing on draft day!

J. J. Arrington free to travel again this offseason... according to "The REAL Feed":

Broncos release RB Arrington, who fails physical with knee problem
NFL.com (28.05.2009 14:15)
The Denver Broncos confirmed Thursday that they have released running back J.J. Arrington after he failed a physical because of a balky right knee.

I think in the wake of Westbrook's sore ankle, a KEY body part for a tailback mind you, and surgery, which will keep him out until the start of the season, the Eagles should look to sign a player TO MY SURPRISE not listed by ESPN's "NFL Live", J.J. Arrington!  Assuming Arrington is 100%, he showed some serious flashes last year and reminds me much more of a Westbrook-type player than any of the others they listed and, moreover, has the size and, more importantly, experience the kiddies in Philly, McCoy and, say, Booker, don't have.  If given the chance (in Philly and Westbrook is on his way out, or somewhere), I could honestly see his career going like Thomas Jones's or the Barber Tiki's did. ...

...and there's the rub, my friend. He's not. He failed his physical in Denver because of the knee issues. I too like Arrington if he's healthy, but there's no sense of urgency for the Eagles right now. There are enough backs still on the market that they can sit back and wait to gauge the progress that Westbrook's ankle is making. They'll also give McCoy a chance to show his worth and Booker can work to develop a better understanding of the offense.

If the Eagles do sign a RB, I think they'd be better served by going with someone more like Edgerrin James, Samkon Gado, or DeShaun Foster ... a bigger guy who could complement McCoy better.

This is, of course, sad news, but also noteworthy for fantasy footballers playing in leagues with the commonplace D/ST format.  From "The REAL Feed":

McDermott takes over Eagles' defense for recovering Johnson
NFL.com (24.07.2009 13:39)
Sean McDermott will replace Jim Johnson as the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive coordinator, the team announced Friday, two days before the start of training camp.

I'm guessing this has to affect the value of the Eagles' D going into this season, no???

DeSean Jackson should be ok, but rookie TE Cornelius Ingram blew out his ACL today. He's done for the season. He was looking like a real offensive threat in camp so far.

Jeff, do you think, from a fantasy perspective, this sad development with Ingram enhances Celek's value at all???

So, what do yous think???  This is surely something worth chewing the fantasy fat over!!!

My quick take,... for the Eagles you can spin this positive, or you can spin this negative.  For fantasy, you can spin this positive, or you can spin this negative.  Without piling the assumptions on too high and getting in too deep, my only thought is that we KNOW how impatient Philly, especially, Eagle fans can be, especially with McNabb, an impatience that the team management has even exhibited, mind you, with backups far inferior and, at least, sexy than Vick and most notably just last year when McNabb was benched.  Anyway, just my thoughts without laying it on too thick too fast...

With that said, let me append this related piece which is currently atop "The REAL Feed":

Steg-

This situation is going to be interesting to watch.  From a fantasy perspective, I have no idea what to expect from Vick.  I am not even sure what position he is going to play.  He could line up as a RB or FB.   He could then either run it or throw it.  He could line up as WR.  OR, he could just sit on the bench.

Personally, as an Eagles fan, I am not happy with the signing.  He MAY prove to be a great player again, but I do not want to root for him.  However, I have no doubt at some point I will be cheering a play he makes because I am a HUGE Eagles fan and so is my son.

I think that Merrill Hoge's take is right that, based on the structure of the contract, the big second-year option, and the team's incessant rhetoric that Vick is a "quarterback" combined with McNabb's well-documented increasingly tenuous tenure with the team and, moreover, the presumable comparability of a younger McNabb's game with Vick's, Vick, while perhaps seeing some time as a gadget player this year, is being viewed as a much more suitable and skilled backup and ultimately heir apparent to McNabb than Kolb, who has shown nothing to instill any confidence in the team.
