Are you still making transactions?

Now that the bye weeks are over, do you still find yourself making waiver pickups, or do you just keep your lineup as is?  Personally, I make pickups until I can't anymore.  We do charge a buck for a drop/add, but I'm the master of picking a new kicker each week.  This week's gem?  Tim Seder from Jax, playing Hou.  People think its not worth it, but a good kicker can gain you 10 more points than a bad one from week to week.  Last year, I switched defenses every week at the end of the year, basically I picked up each team that was playing Carolina.   This year, I drafted TB, so I doubt that'll be necessary.

I too constantly pick up fringe players.  As far as kickers, look for Wilkins to have a HUGE week.  For the year Chicago is averaging 9.78 kicker FF points given up (worst in the league) and the trend is only getting worse as they have given up an average of 12 kicker FF points the last 4 weeks (again, worst in the league).

I'm pretty much set in my lineup now that the byes are done.

I will keep an eye on the waiver wire for defenses that have a great matchup (anyone vs. Houston), although someone with a worse record than me (and, therefore, an earlier waiver-wire priority than me) is doing the same thing.

I also watch for people who are dumping established players who might have a bad week.  Some people get enamored with the new kid on the block (McAddley, etc.) and will drop a proven commodity for an unknown.

My lineup is pretty much set for the rest of the year, so I worked on getting quality backups for my regular starters. I released an extra WR (Chris Carter) and picked up Mike Anderson in case Portis goes down. I also dropped my bench warming RB (James Allen) and picked up Carswell for Sharpe. Finally, I dropped my backup Kicker (Vinatieri) in favor of another QB (Brunell) as the tie breaker in the playoffs is total bench points.

I just dumped all my fringe players and got some extra backup insurance.  My reserves are now...

Jake Plummer
Kurt Warner
Lamar Gordon
Trung Canidate
Tony Richardson
Mike Cloud
LaMont Jordan
Robert Edwards

The only backup there I don't have the starter for is Jordan

Hell, yea!  As you said, keep it up until that "rag" has been squeezed absolutely "dry."  With the GBRFL, it is 10 teams with 21-component rosters and free-agents are aquired on a limited basis, once a week in a two-round worst-to-first format for both.  210 players/defenses is pretty deep.  How we go about picking up free-agents as mentioned above is the only reason the free-agent pool does not dry up by, well, around now.  We are allowed to pick up free-agents right up and through the last week of our season, which is Week 17.  So, making that late-season, or better yet, last-week pickup of a good-quality injured guy who has basically been forgotten about can be a real coup.

As for trades, our deadline is Week 13.  This year has been a little quiet compared to years prior on the trading front, but there is usually that one fairly big trade that will go down Week 13.

How about you guys?  How do your leagues go about some of these things?

Both my money leagues have trade deadlines week 12. One week before the regular season finale. Free agent moves are allowed all the way thru the playoffs.

In the biggest money league ($300 - $400 range for first, total points league) there are payouts for weekly top score to give bottom dwellers like myself this year     incentive to keep going. Another twist in that one is with $3 fa, and $2 trades, you can opt to pay in points (50, the rough equivalant of 5 in standard performance) if you feel you're out of the running for one of the top four spots. We have a ten transaction minimum that is not rigidly enforced, but as all particpants have known each other for years, nobody wants to be "the cheap bastage" Last week I made my 10th transaction(all cash) and will now pay with points the remainder of the way. I should mention that the points are not subtracted from your weekly score, only the running total. Playing for top weekly score money keeps everybody interested more often than not.

In my main money league, all transactions are a dollar. At the end of the year, all the transaction money goes to the team that scored the most points. Payouts are 300 for first, 150 for second, and 75 for the third and fourth place finishers.

It is an IDP league, and we keep 5 offense and 5 defense players each year. We also incorporated a rookie exemption rule this year, where everyone gets to keep the rookie they drafted in a special one round draft. This player gets a two year roster exemption.

As far as me making waiver pickups, I may still pickup a player or two. I am 2-8, but if I find someone worth keeping for next year (especially a defensive player) I'll pick him up no problem!

I like the fact that you can pickup guys through week 17. It does have its drawbacks too though. BY that i mean if a guy gets hurt for the playoffs the owners that has little dpeth can still get a "get bye" player to carry him.
Its a toss up really.

Right now I'm dumping dead weight and leaving a space for any emergency players should something happen in the next couple weeks.

Once I get into the playoffs, I'm going to find guys who have potential for lots of points on the bench since that is a tiebreaker if the final score is tied.
