Price to be franchised... and then traded!?!?

CNS Sportsline: It's looking more and more like Price will be hit with a franchise tag, which will almost certainly keep him Buffalo. The Bills don't think second-year receiver Josh Reed is ready for a No. 2 role behind Eric Moulds, so Price will be tagged. At least that's the word the Bills are spreading around the league. If that happens, they will hope to sign Price to a long-term deal before the 2003 season begins. If not, they will be on the hook for a $5.01 million cap charge this season. If Price plays for the franchise number, the Bills could then decide Reed is ready to take over the No. 2 role in 2004 and let Price walk. If Price is given the franchise tag, there will be a lot of disappointed teams since he would be a sough-after player on the market. Atlanta and Jacksonville are two teams that would give him a hard look if he were free. It makes sense for the Bills to franchise him. One more year for Josh Reed to develop.

Well, Price has come out and said that he does not mind if the "franchise tag" is put on him. But, here is the latest out of Fanball.com: "The News Buffalo Bills president Tom Donahoe said Friday the team may not be able to afford wide receiver Peerless Price. "We have more than one guy to sign," Donahoe told the Associated Press. "And we're not going to break the bank for one player. As much as we like Peerless, we can't do that from a team standpoint." Our View The Bills have until Thursday to decide whether to use the transition or franchise tag on Price, which would net the wideout between $4.5 and $5 million for the 2003 season. If Buffalo opts to turn the second wide receiver spot over to Josh Reed, the Titans have already expressed interest in bringing Price, a former Volunteer standout, home to Tennessee." Here is the local lowdown as torn off "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20030211/1019290.asp http://www.syracuse.com/nfl/spnet.ssf?/default.asp?c=advance&page=nf l/news/ABN2442576.htm I suspect that there will be more news on this on the way shortly, perhaps this weekend. So, I would suggest hanging around "the Gridiron Newsstand" and keeping your eyes peeled, and, by all means, reporting what you find!

Well, as it turns out, the earlier news above turned out to be nothing but a bunch of hogwash. What Donahoe said about not being able to bank on one player, meaning Price, ended up being BS and Price's claiming he would not mind if the franchise tag were placed on him was also BS. He's infuriated. I think there is a lot of shitty agent-meddling and agent-speak going on, though. Anyway, here is the local lowdown FRESH off "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://www.democratandchronicle.com/sports/bills/0220story1_bills.shtml; http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20030220/1029371.asp. This is some good reading, fellas! I hope the knowledge helps all of you!

| As stated before, KJ 76, no prob! You were actually in the right place, but thanks for being understanding of the situation and cool about it. At any rate, here is a little more follow-up HOT off "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://www.democratandchronicle.com/sports/bills/0221story2_bills.shtml. Claims that Price's rejecting a $3 million per year deal with a $5 million signing bonus was the cause for the franchise tag's being placed on him.

Well, the "proverbial" they say the Bills slapped the franchise tag on Price to force his hand and get he and his agent in negotiatin' on a new long-term deal, but word on the street is the Bills might be lookin' to deal Price now that they've got the tag on him. Here is the evidence from ESPN as well as corroboration from a local daily ripped right off "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/pasquarelli_len/1511951.html; http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20030221/2000947.asp. I am at your service! ENJOY, fellaz! Oh, and, by the way, what teams do you all think might be in the mix to acquire Price via a trade?
