2nd NFL Draft Mock Commentary

I really wanted to take Terrence Newman with this pick, because I feel deep down the Bengals and Marvin Lewis should to take him and draft a QB with their second pick. But, I feel that he is the best player on the board and the Bengals will take him.

Once again, the Lions pick is a no-brainer, but the Texans pick, which seemed to be a no-brainer a month ago, may have changed... let's see what the GRIDIRON thinks!

"David Carr can't continue to get hit like he did last year, and I think the Texans need to get a good tackle or running back, but unless they trade down, they won't get either in the first round. Suggs may have had a poor pre-draft workout, but I still think he will have the most impact of any rookie defender next season. "

The Bears really wanted to trade out of the 4th spot but were unable to.  So instead, they went with the best player available theory.  Not a popular pick with the Chicago fans, as the fans felt they needed D-line help and a QB.

As a side benefit, they do enjoy screwing the Cowboys.......

100% chance the Bears will take a QB in second round.

The Cardinals need receiver help again!  Boston is gone, Jenkins is unhappy, Sanders is a bust...  time to bring in Andre Johnson.

The Jaguars need to do something about their wide receiver sitch, especially considering the fact that Jimmy Smith is no spring .  They have done a decent job going about repairing their defense this offseason via free-agency.  It still needs work, but...  As for Taylor Jacobs, well, historically Florida wideouts .  I also think that Washington's physical dimensions and attributes are more impressive! All of that explanation coming from an NFL draft or, to be euphemistic, .

"Melvin Tuten did an adequate job last season, but he is a much better fit as a backup. Gross is a natural athlete and a fantastic run blocker. In the passing game, he has good, quick footwork and excellent balance."

Also, I think just like my pick with Washington on Rex Grossman, the pick with Minnesota is quite odd. The Vikings do NOT need a TE as they got two good blockers and a go receiving TE to begin with instead the Vikings need a lot of help on defense, and cornerback Marcus Trufant is a big possibility, but with the signing of Denard Walker via free agency, I think they'll take the best available defensive lineman and grab a corner later on the first day. Robertson and Chris Hovan would be a disruptive force on the inside.

I'll admit the Vikes selection of Joppru was a bit unexpected    ... but that is the beauty of this thing... anything goes.

I would be interested in some reasoning behind the pick.  I like Joppru as a pass-catching TE, but wouldn't expect him to be picked until 3rd or 4th round... not top 10 overall.

I am going to guess that the person who picked him is a Michigan fan.......and there is no way in any world that the TE would go that early.  Minnesota is actually sold at TE.  The need help EVERYWHERE else except QB's.

The Rams go with the best on the board with the Robertson pick.  They have made progress this offseason in shoring up their o-line by getting OT Kyle Turley in a (fairly cheap) trade and, though they could use cornerback help, their choices were not very good at this point.  So, they went with overall defensive help and took the best defensive player available at this point.

San Diego is only a left tackle away from having a very potent offense. Steinbach has the versatility to play T or G, and seems to have put the injuries earlier in his career behind him. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the best tackle in the draft.

the selection of gardner for the patroits was due to inside info from deep inside the patroits lockerroom. I was told that they like this kid and may select him in the first

Tallman Gardner in the 4th round maybe.  I am very confused by your picks, Reaper.

Joppru and Gardner?

Don't you think the Vikes need every position but TE and QB  with Chamberlin and Kleinsasser?

Don't you think the Pats need defense?  They have the oldest D in the league.  Need secondary help AND LB help.  The top two LB are still on the board.  I am 99.999999999999999999999% sure the Pats would take any defensive player over Gardner.  Even if they needed another WR with Brown, Patten, Branch et al.., have you ever heard of Taylor Jacobs, Brandon Lloyd, Boldin, Bryant Johnson, or Teyo Johnson????

Just for kicks, i got the draft compilations...

WR:  AVG= their average draft spot.

Rank AVG Player School
1     2.00    Charles Rogers Michigan State
2     7.40      Andre Johnson Miami
3     17.00    Taylor Jacobs Florida
4     24.50    Brandon Lloyd Illinois
5     25.00    Anquan Boldin FSU
6     25.50    Kelley Washington Tennessee
7    30.50    Bryant Johnson Penn State
8    31.00    Teyo Johnson Stanford

What really gets me, Reaper, is that you seem to have some interesting insight on all your other posts.  I am truly gladyou joined  this site cause you do have good comments and good participation.

Oh well.....at least we're having fun.

Okay, Reapman Grim definitely has earned the criticism, the censure, he is receiving.  That having been said, this thing is kind of dying out.  Let's stop spending so much time getting on his case and PICK!  It is clear at this point in time that waiting for others to join in is pointless, even counterproductive if people who want to contribute, BUT really don't follow the goings-on of the NFL draft, make picks (case in point, perhaps).  While complaining about Reapman, the draft has COMPLETELY stalled.  Those who are really into it and "in the know", get on it.  Get this thing back goin' and try to provide our visitors with the best you can give 'em and stop whinin' about Reapman and waiting around for perhaps more Reapmen, so to speak, to join in (and muck things up... that is the concern, right?)!  Just pick!

Allright.....

I thought our only Chief fan should pick Kansas pick, but since some people seem to be in a hurry.......

The Kansas Chiefs in a no brainer pick EJ Henderson.  #1 LB in the draft.  He will really help out KC defense which needs all the help it can get.

The Saints go D with both of their picks. Bailey can start right away, Woolfolk has tremendous upside and is still learning. With some experience, he can be great.

And yes Steve, I was going to take Robertson with the Jets pick.

Doh... I posted a pick for the Pats before I read this.  Hope you don't mind my pick Grim.

I think the Pats are salivating over the fact that a quality DT like Sullivan is still on the board.  Sullivan is a nice complement to Seymour and will immediately upgrade a questionable D-line.

No worries, friend!  I am kind of a when it comes to this stuff myself.  I actually only thought one of your picks was "way" off, that's being Joppru.  Leftwich was a great pick and, personally, I did not think that Gardner was all that bad.  Truth is, the Patriots could use some help at wideout!

Wayne Hunter- The Browns need a solid offensive tackle so they can move Ross Verba back to guard. Hunter is raw, but his pre-draft workouts have caused him to soar into the first round.

Btw, nice steal in McDougle this late Steg. He's a definite Top 15 pick, and should have gone to New England.
