Couch to the Cowboys?.......Maybe!

A few of the local Dallas Cowboy websites have confirmed that the Clevland Browns have offered Tim Couch to the Dallas Cowboys for their 2nd pick. This does make since considering that the Couch/Holcombe controversy has been talked about all off season. Being a Cowboys fan, I think I would  jump at that offer......If I was a Browns fan, I would think thats not enough compensation for a former #1 pick in the NFL draft. But who knows.....maybe the Browns feel they can grab a player who can make a difference with the 5th pick in the second round and quash a QB controversy at the same time?

The sites say this deal has been offered, not agreed upon.

It has also been mentioned(frequently) that the Cowboys might trade their 5th pick in the first round to New Orleans for both of the Saints First round picks.

These deals would give the Dallas Cowboys......Tim Couch and two first round draft picks......wow...isn't it fun to think about all this @$*!

So what do you think?     Would you pull the trigger if you were the Cowboys?

WOW!!!  That is some great "local" information.  I wonder how much is true and how much is just local talk show hosts playing fantasy football.

If I was the Cowboys, with the help they need at QB I would take that trade in a heart beat. Would Cleveland really let him go for a second rounder?  Maybe just to dump his contract?   Can you say bye-bye Quincy Carter?

As far as trading draft picks, that is a tough one.  It appears the Cowboys have a good shot at Newman.  I think with the Cowboys holes on the team and the injury question regarding Newman, they should make that trade too.

Cowboys would get an A++ rating on their draft day moves!!

This is from a Ohio newspaper.......

Sean McClelland
Dayton Daily News
04/22/2003

Some insiders believe the Cleveland Browns already have decided on a starting quarterback and that the supposed training camp "competition" between Tim Couch and Kelly Holcomb won't materialize after all.

They think Holcomb is the choice and that Couch will be traded on draft day - the Dallas Cowboys supposedly are the most interested - or released June 1.

Of those scenarios, the first seems more likely. But it would not be without risk. Neither quarterback is the poster child for durability. Each has missed significant chunks of time with broken legs and other maladies the past couple of seasons.

Holcomb, coming off a scintillating playoff performance in a losing effort at Pittsburgh,at least appears to be on equal footing with Couch in the eyes of those who matter. Given every opportunity this offseason to reinforce Couch's standing as starter, coach Butch  Davis has gone out of his way to declare the position up for grabs.

If Couch indeed is traded or by some other means severed from the roster, the only competition in training camp would involve whether Josh Booty can beat out Canadian Football League refugee Pat Barnes for the backup job.

Barnes, after being released by three NFL teams(Chiefs, Raiders, A 49ers), did not exactly dominate the CFL. He was a backup last season for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, completing 17 passes. The previous year, as a backup in Calgary, he attempted three passes. If nothing else, you have to figure his arm will be fresh.

The Browns have enough quarterbacks. However, they would be in the market for one toward the end of the draft if Couch and his exorbitant contract are sent packing.

I also read somewhere (I believe it was an article by the same guy of the one you just posted) that the Cowboys would send Coakley, their #5 pick, and a 5th-6th round draft pick for Couch, JAMEL WHITE (who i REALLY think could do well with the Cowboys system and Parcells' coaching- potential sleeper material guys!) and a 3rd round pick.

Just keeping you updated. I REALLY don't see this happening but if it does, JAMEL WHITE and COAKLEY will be the ones that make good out of the deal. Coakley would fit in well with the Browns D and Jamel would compete with Hambrick for the starting job; however, White will most likely end up being a 3rd down guy.

This is why I love the draft.  I love all the rumors.  This draft can be especially exciting cause I think there are going to be a TON of trades!!   I look for New Orleans, the Pats, and Dallas to be big players.......

Can't wait til Sunday....

This would make alot more sense than another rumored deal that had Dallas giving Cleveland its first round pick and Dexter Coakley for Couch/White and Clevelands' 4th round pick.

I think Couch would be a good fit in Dallas. He is the type of Qb the Tuna likes! I don't think he would turn into a fantasy stud or anything, but would be a decent fit and sure in hell is better than Hutchinson!

ALL RUMORS.....fueled by talk show hosts.

Only thing the two teams talked about was Jamel White according to Cleveland Plain Dealer.
