Wow... 3rd pick is tough!    The first 2 are pretty easy, in my mind... but #3 there are some difficult decisions to be made... just hope I made the right one.

Actually, I love the 3rd pick this year.  I think those top 3 RBs are the easy leaders, but don't see much difference between them.  Its this second group of RBs coming up that scares me - each one seems to have a big question mark.

Having the 5th overall pick, I am concerned.  My 1st pick could be a total bust or lead me to victory.  But you gotta take that chance.......ONWARD TO VICTORY!!!!

You think 3rd is tough.  Try 8th when the top RB's are gone and you've gotta choose between guys with a lotta ?'s but big potential, consistent RB's with low ceilings, a QB, or Owens/Harrison.

I personally believe 7th is the worst pick in the draft, followed closely by 8 because at least at 7th if someone grabs a QB you get one of the top RB's (IMO).

I am ok with the quality of guys I am looking at in the first round.  As a preference, I like to be close to the edges without being right on them - 3rd and 10th spots are ideal.  When I am sitting in the middle I really can't expect a player to last through 12 more picks... and it looks like I am reaching more.

I will say this, I'll take 7th over first and last any day.

Please don't get me wrong... I'm very happy with my pick of Portis at #3 and am also very happy with my draft position... all I'm saying that in my analysis, Portis and 3 other RBs still available are all just about interchangeable.

I think LT2 and RW are on a tier of their own right now, with an excellent group of about 5 RBs right behind them.

Portis is a good pick there.  I would have gone Marshall, but there are ??'s at QB in StL (IMO).  So far, the only surprise (or is it?) is Priest Holmes still on the board.  Maybe everyone read my article on Priest being a bust this season. http://www.ffgridiron.com/football/article.php?id=20030610161716

Must of missed that article since I just drafted him.

ANd you got it....i got balls.  As previously stated, it's gonna be the worst pick of the draft or a steal.  Only time will tell......

By the way, you lost a lot of credibility when you hyped up Larry Johnson.

I've spent some time trolling several Chiefs message Boards and reading everything i can get my hands on related to Priest Holmes.  I really like the situation he is in (compared to, say, Edge last year).  I am not 100% sold, or I would see him as belonging with the top 3.

I definitely do not agree with labeling Priest as a mediocre RB.  I can remember several games versus the Steelers when he showed flashes of brilliace.  Yes, he is the right type of back for that system, but i don't think there are more than 3 other backs in the league who would fit as well (Faulk, Edge, and LT).

As far as Larry Johnson goes, he is the wrong back for the system.  He will be a good complement to Priest, but will not excel in that offense by himself.

Speaking of the right back for the system, playing with this "best ball" format Alexander will be a stud!  I will be able to capitalize on his monster games and (hopefully) have a decent replacement "ball" for his down games.

I had Portis, Alexander, and McAllister all rated pretty much the same at #3, with Faulk just behind those 3.  I don't have Holmes on my draft board at all.  He is just too much of a question mark for me to use a top pick on.

I didn't take Deuce just because he has two receivers taking some scores away, plus his O-line is not as good as last year.  I chose Portis over Alexander (just barely) because I think Denver will have to rely on the run just a bit more than the Seahawks, but it was a toss-up.

If you re-read the article, I state in it

"I don't think Johnson's that good either, but the fact KC spent their first rounder on a runningback does not bode well for Priest Holmes."

I hyped him way too much I guess.

Anyways, for my James pick.  I don't like the pick much at all.  He's not that much better than four other RB's on my board.  My only hope is that he at least gets some of the TD's he was denied last year.  If he gets pulled on the goalline again, I'm going to be relying on some sleeper RB's.  As for why I picked James instead of the other four... well, I've got my eye on one of them and hope he falls to me.

I'm almost positive that this is not who you were referring to. If it's who I think it is, I couldn't do it... I'm not sold on the "new attitude" theory. If it's the other guy, I'm not taking any chances on that poor offensive squad.

Its understandable with the (supposed) high quality of RBs near the top, and the (supposed) depth of the QBs.

I was reading....  "Larry Johnson. The star from Penn State is ready to disprove all the myths of Penn State runningbacks. "

What is the myth?  I thought it meant you thought he was gonna be good OPPOSITE ALL other Penn State Running backs.

I took that sentence from the piece instead of the next sentence you quote.

By the way....well written piece even though I disagree on the points.
