GRIDIRON LEAGUE ENDORSING EQUALITY As discussed on the Draft Order Equality thread, I am going to establish a new league. This league will have unique scoring, so please read the rules, especially the scoring rules, carefully. With this being the first year of this league, which uses a different approach to scoring, I expect we will have some bugs to clean out this year. If you are interested, let me know on this thread and tell me what dates you will not be available to do an auction. I just typed these rules, so if you notice anything that may need clarification, or appears to be wrong, let me know. League Objectives: I. Value positions in a standard way to eliminate the inequality in value currently present in almost all Fantasy Football leagues. II. Use the fairest method available to select players to eliminate the inequality associated with Fantasy Football drafting positions. III. Have fun and encourage new ways of thinking about Fantasy Football. League Rules: I. League size: TBD, however I am planning on 10 teams, without any divisions. II. This is a free redraft league (although we may move to a keeper league following the 2004 season). III. Selection: tentatively planned to be an auction, but may be changed to a serpentine draft for the first year only. A. Auction 1. Each team will have a fictitious salary cap of $200 2. All bids must be made in even dollars 3. The minimum salary for all players is $1 4. Teams may not cut players during the auction 5. $1 must be left free for each player under 22. For example: a team with 19 players must be $5 under the salary cap. 6. We will use buddy chat on AOL Instant messenger. It is free to download: http://www.aim.com/ 7. We will bid on one player at a time. After 15 seconds of no bids, I will say, "going once". After another 10 seconds, "going twice". After another 5 seconds, "sold". 8. If two teams bid an identical amount, the first one that shows up on my chat screen wins. 9. The nomination order will be determined randomly by internet dice rolls, and follow a serpentine order. 10. By nominating a player, you automatically bid at least $1 on that player. 11. If your roster is full, you do not need to nominate a player. 12. The auction serves the purpose of initially setting up the teams, immediately following the auction, all transactions are done without consideration of salary caps or original dollars spent on players. B. Draft 1. The draft will be a serpentine draft, i.e. in the even rounds, the draft order will be reversed from the odd rounds 2. The draft order will be determined randomly by internet dice rolls 3. The draft will be an auto-draft on yahoo.com that will be done by their website on August 28th at 12:00 AM EST. 4. The draft will last 24 rounds, enough to fill each team's roster. IV. Roster Requirements and Starting Lineups A. The roster maximums will be 24 players. B. There are no injured reserve spots. C. The standard starting lineup will be: 2 QB, 3 RB, 4 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 D/ST. V. Scoring System A. Each week, a standard Fantasy Football scoring system (as enumerated below) will be used to award Standard Fantasy Football Points (SFFPs). Each position will then be ranked according to the SFFPs and awarded Gridiron League Endorsing Equality Points (GLEEPs) according to the chart below. B. Standard Fantasy Football scoring system 1. Decimal scoring will always be used. This helps prevent ties. 2. Individual players do not receive points for special teams TDs, nor do they lose points for fumbles on ST. 3. Defenses may score negative points if they give up excessive points and/or yards. 4. Standard Fantasy Football scoring will be as follows: Code:Passing TDs 5 pts. Rush/Rec. TDs 6 pts. 2 pt. Conversion 2 pts. INT/Fumble Lost -1 pt. 25 Passing yds. 1 pt. 10 Rush/Rec yds. 1 pt. FG 3 pts. PAT 1 pt. D/ST scoring: Points allowed 10 - (0.3 x PA) Yards allowed 10 - (0.03 x YA) TD 6 pts. Safety 2 pts. Takeaways 2 pts. Sacks 1 pt. |
| C. Gridiron League Endorsing Equality scoring system: 1. Each week, the entire pool of players started will be ranked within their respective positions. 2. If there are 10 teams, the GLEEPs will be awarded as follows: Rank QB RB WR TE, K, D/ST 1 120 120 120 90 2 114 116 117 81 3 108 112 114 72 4 102 108 111 63 5 96 104 108 54 6 90 100 105 45 7 84 96 102 36 8 78 92 99 27 9 72 88 96 18 10 66 84 93 9 11 60 80 90 12 54 76 87 13 48 72 84 14 42 68 81 15 36 64 78 16 30 60 75 17 24 56 72 18 18 52 69 19 12 48 66 20 6 44 63 21 40 60 22 36 57 23 32 54 24 28 51 25 24 48 26 20 45 27 16 42 28 12 39 29 8 36 30 4 33 31 30 32 27 33 24 34 21 35 18 36 15 37 12 38 9 39 6 40 3 3. If there are more or less than 10 teams, the GLEEPs will be adjusted, but will follow the same format as the above example. 4. In the case of a tie (same amount of SFFPs), the players tied will receive the average of the GLEEPs designated for the rankings they are tied for. 5. Except for defenses, players that have no SFFPs or negative SFFPs will receive no GLEEPs. Defenses will receive their allotted GLEEPs regardless of how many SFFPs they received, unless it is their bye week, in which case they will receive no GLEEPs if they are started. VI. Trading A. Both parties must agree to the trade. B. Trades are unlimited. C. I have the right to veto trades only in the event that collusion is suspected. I will define collusion as: a trade in which one of the owners knowingly and purposefully aids another owner without benefit to his own team. Basically, I will allow stupid and unfair trades. I won't allow trades if I strongly suspect collusion D. The remaining league members (excluding myself and the owners involved in the trade) may overrule my veto by a majority vote. E. In the case of a trade involving my team, the remaining league members (excluding myself and the other owners involved in the trade) may veto the trade if collusion is suspected. F. The trading deadline will be prior to kickoff with 3 weeks remaining in the league's regular season. G. There will be no trades involving draft picks (if a draft is used). H. I must be notified of a trade by both parties in our league forum 24 hours prior to that week's games' first kickoff for it to be effective for that week. VII. Free Agency and Waivers A. No pickups or drops will be allowed from 24 hours prior to that week's games' first kickoff through Monday night. B. Each team will be allowed 2 waiver and/or free agent pickups per week. C. Waiver pickups are due to me by email by Wednesday at 8 PM Eastern time and will be processed by Thursday at 8 AM Eastern time. D. The waiver order will be set from worst record to best record. The tiebreaker is fewest GLEEPs scored. E. Free Agent pickups need to be posted in our forum and are first-come, first-serve starting Thursday morning after I have processed and posted waivers. F. I will not allow a team to "throw in the towel" and will step in to either find a substitute owner or manage the team myself if it becomes apparent that that is what is happening. VIII. Schedule, Playoffs, and Tiebreakers A. Every week, every team will compete head-to-head against every other team (in the case of a 10 team league, you will play 9 games each week). B. The regular season will last 14 weeks with the 4 teams having the best records advancing to the playoffs. C. In week 16, the 2 playoff teams who had the most GLEEPs in week 15 will face off with the winner being crowned champion. D. Tiebreakers 1. Most GLEEPs scored 2. Head-to-head 3. Most SFFPs scored

So, from what i see if you take Harrison and Owens and lets say another Top 10 wr you should clean up. They will clearly have the largest disparity...pts wise...than any other position. It looks like fun. I can't be in though, wish i could. I am already spread too thin. Have fun. It looks like and exciting league. |
| I've been thinking about this. If you look at it from a VBD standpoint, using either last starter or 50% of last starter at each position as the baseline, the #1 guy at QB, RB, and WR will all have (almost) the same value (as figured using GLEEPs). Yes, the 10th wide receiver has more value than the 10th RB or QB, but I believe that closely mirrors the real world (i.e. there is more depth at wide receiver than RB - which in turn has more depth than QB... an average team has 2 productive WRs, 1.5??? productive RBs, and 1 productive QB). If you look at the total points allocated to each position, however, the rules are definitely slanted towards WRs, so I really don't know? What I really had a hard time on was Def/STs. In reality that is the most valuable "position" listed. What should I do with them? I think the best answer would be to use IDPs, but I just think that would be biting off too much for this year.
