The Eskimos said Friday that Ray has signed with Jets, two days before the CFL deadline for players to sign NFL prospects.

"The Eskimo players and coaches take pride in helping Ricky fulfil his dream of playing in the NFL," Eskimos president and CEO Hugh Campbell said in a statement. "Ricky Ray is a tremendous young man with a bright future and we wish him great success."

The Jets did not immediately confirm the signing.

Ray, 24 completed 348 of 515 attempts for 4,640 yards with 35 touchdowns in 2003. He worked out for the Jets two weeks ago.

He would likely compete with second-year man Brooks Bollinger for the No. 2 job behind Chad Pennington. Forty-year-old Vinny Testaverde, the backup for the past two seasons, said Thursday that he is considering retirement.
