Bakes' Mock Draft with Trades

MOCK ON!

1. New York Giants- Eli Manning, QB, Ole Miss

Rumor has it that a deal is in the works & that Archie could have his wish by later today.

2. Cleveland Browns, Robert Gallery, OT, Iowa

Raiders could go in so many directions with this pick.  My gut says Al Davis doesn't want to pay a high signing bonus to a rookie.

3. Arizona Cardinals - Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Pittsburgh

Let's see a year ago at this time the Cards drafted 2 WRs on the 1st day.  Yet this seems to be the closest thing to a lock among all the picks.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers - Ben Roethlisberger, QB, Miami of Ohio

San Diego continues to slide downward.  Steelers get their man.

5. New England Patriots - Sean Taylor, S, Univ of Miami

Hottest rumor I heard all day yesterday.  Let's face it the Pat's have no use for all these picks.  Belichick is in love with Taylor & with Ty Law seemingly on the way out a DB will be a need.

6. Denver Broncos, Roy Williams, WR, Texas

Denver pulls off the 2nd biggest trade.  Everyone knows Smith & McCaffrey can't play forever.

7. Oakland Raiders - Kellen Winslow, Jr., TE, Univ of Miami

Raiders dropped down thinking Roy would still be on the board.  But their arch rivals snatched him.

8. Atlanta Falcons - DeAngelo Hall, CB, Virginia Tech

Atlanta gets a guy who compares himself to former Falcon Deion Sanders.

9. Jacksonville Jaguars - Reggie Williams, WR, Washington

This is where the loss of Mike Williams is 1st felt.  Although Reggie isn't much of a drop off at all.

10. Houston Texans - Tommie Harris, DT, Oklahoma

Only the 3rd defensive player taken thus far.  DT is a position that in years past was very deep in talent.

11. San Diego Chargers - Philip Rivers, QB, NC State

Chargers get the guy they wanted all along & stock pile extra picks to boot.

12. New York Jets - Dunta Robinson, CB, Univ of South Carolina

Jets could reach for a LB or go with DL, but Robinson seems to make the most sense here.

13. Buffalo Bills, Kenechi Udeze, DE, USC

Top 3 QBs are all taken, so they go for need & get the top rated DE.

14. Chicago Bears, Vince Wilfork, DT, Univ of Miami

Bears could trade down if they want to go RB, but Wilfork feels a bigger need right now.

15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Will Smith, DE, Ohio St

Bucs D needs some retooling.  Smith is a good start.

16. San Francisco 49ers - Michael Clayton, WR, LSU

Reach?  Perhaps, but WR is their biggest need.

17. Detroit Lions- Steven Jackson, RB, Oregon St

Lions take a gamble & it pays off.

18. New Orleans Saints - DJ Williams, LB, Univ of Miami

Saints D still needs some work.

19. Minnesota Vikings - Jonathon Vilma, LB, Univ of Miami

DJ is followed by his fellow LB from Miami.

20. Washington Redskins - Shawn Andrews, OT, Arkansas

Skins may not like what's left on the board, but they get a mamoth tackle to create holes for newly acquired Portis.

21. Tennessee Titans - Vernon Carey, OL, Univ of Miami

With only 3 picks to start with Washinton continues to add more picks.

22. Dallas Cowboys - Kevin Jones, RB, Virginia Tech

Titans may have stolen Tuna's 1st option, but getting the most explosive RB in the draft is a nice 2nd.

23. Seattle Seahawks - Marcus Tubbs, DT, Texas

When scouts watch the Super Bowl they realize what a difference Ted Washington made.  Tubbs rise in value can be attributed to that.

24. Cincinnati Bengals, Will Poole, CB, USC

Poole has moved up in the ranks of CBs lately.

25. Green Bay Packers, J.P. Losman, QB, Tulane

Packers know Brett has only so long before he hangs it up.

26. St. Louis Rams - Ben Troupe, TE, Florida

Without a 2nd round pick the Rams don't have the amo to get Winslow.  So they take the next best thing.

27. Washington Redskins - Randy Starks, DT, Maryland

Best value at a position of great need & demand.

28. Philadelphia Eagles - Chris Gamble, CB, Ohio St

Eagles also go with best available & fill a need.

29. Indianapolis Colts - Karlos Dansby, LB, Auburn

Dansby gives the Colts some flexibility on D.

30. Kansas City Chiefs - Lee Evans, WR, Wisconsin

Speed kills & that's what Evans brings.

31. Carolina Panthers - Rashaun Woods, WR, Oklahoma St

Perfect fit for Muhsin's future replacement.

32. Miami Dolphins - Justin Smiley, OG, Alabama

Miami trades down knowing there is depth at the position they have a greater need for.

Trades:

Mia's #20
for
NE's #32 & #63

SD's #1
for
NYG's #4, #34 & WR Ike Hilliard

Oak's #2
for
Clev's #7, #37 & a 2nd rounder next year

SD's #4 (from NYG)
for
Pitt's #11, #44, #75, & a 3rd rounder next year

Wash's #5
for
NE's #20 (from Mia), #21 & #128

Det's #6
for
Den's #17, #41 & #54

Wash's #21 (from NE)
for
Ten's #27, #92 & #124

Early on I was skeptical of all the trade rumors.  Now as you can see I've changed my tune.

I have to believe that the Chargers won't select him #1, so the Giants would only need to move up to #2 to get him.

I hadn't heard this rumor.  The Pats certainly have the firepower to make a big move and this would make sense.

This is a rumor I DID hear about.  We know how Norv loves a good TE and Kellen Winslow would cause all sorts of match-up problems in the AFC West.

If this happens, then I guess the Mannings' allegations of incompetence in the front office will be blown to hell.

Excellent work there.  Lots of intelligent decisions!  I like it.  (Although I'm not crazy about Gamble for the Eagles at #28, but I don't think it will happen anyway.)

Well as I posted on the Eli thread I'd be wary of making a trade up to #1.  Unless you are 100% sure that Eli is THE BEST QB of the 3(Roeth & Rivers) than you would be foolish to make that deal.  But that's exactly what I was hearing yesterday.  Along with the thought that NY would possibly have Eli signed to a contract by tonight.

I'm surprised you hadn't heard this one.  It's all I kept hearing yesterday.  I know how highly Belichick thinks of the depth in this year's draft, but I think he also knows this team has very little holes to fill.  If anyone can afford to package picks it's New England.

Well this was initially done with the intention of getting Roy Williams who, from what I hear, Oakland covets the most.  However I put a wrinkle in that plan with Denver sneaking up one spot ahead.  The reverse (Winslow to Den & Roy to Oak) could make just as much sense.  It's a long shot, but I think with Mike Williams out, this puts Roy's stock at a premium.  BTW I personally LOVE Roy Williams.

Yeah this would be the biggest power play since Dallas traded away Hershel Walker.  Everyone seems to have their own views on which of the BIG 3 is actually #1.  Some experts believe Eli's pedigree is partly the reason for his #1 status.

Sorry about that, but I didn't see any other choice that wouldn't be considered a reach.

Myself included.  (Did I just include myself among the "experts"?  You bet I did!)

As I stated in my Draft Preview,  Link: http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=56;a ction=display;num=1082734920 , I believe Manning is overrated.  That doesn't mean that I think he'll be a bust, but I think his name is part of the reason he is rated #1 overall.  I can find a dozen QBs who put up better numbers against as good or better competition last fall.  I think Manning will be a very good QB, not as good as Peyton.  I'd definitely take Roethlisberger ahead of him.  And then I'd rank Rivers and Manning about the same.  However Rivers will cost much less and isn't telling teams not to draft him.
