The Gridiron NFL Draft Guide - It's Live!
« on: Feb 10th, 2005, 9:24pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

Those of you who frequented these parts a year ago will remember that BarnabyWilde and I posted a lot of information leading up to the NFL Draft.  We had player profiles, mock drafts, discussions, and more.

Well, things are changing.  We won't be doing that this year.    Fear not.  The information will still be available.  This year we're going to set up a separate website with all that information and more.

The framework of the website is set up and we're gathering content right now.  As soon as we have enough information loaded, we'll announce the URL and hope everyone will stop by and check things out.

We're getting closer... (this HTML programming is tough - I haven't done it in a while)...

Just to clarify... this is still part of the content here at the Gridiron... it's just not going to be part of the forums (where it gets lost quickly) this year.

The Gridiron NFL Draft Guide is Up!

Here's the link... you may want to bookmark it for future use.

http://home.comcast.net/~thegridiron

Please keep in mind that it is not yet (anywhere near) complete.  Right now there is some Draft News and a couple Mock Drafts.  There is also a partial Top Five list (just QB, RB, and WR) posted.  Over the next few days/weeks there will be a lot more content added.

If there are any comments on the format/content/etc. please let us know as we want the draft website to be an integral piece of the Gridiron experience.  We have big plans for it over time - including a draft guide that will make Ourlads obsolete.    But please be kind and realize that this project is in its infancy.

Thanks for the kind words Capt.  Personally, I'm not crazy about the format right now... but it's what I managed to get to work.

The very first profile has been posted (QB Jason Campbell of Auburn - the guy I have rated as the #1 QB overall - although I know I am in the minority).

I hope that the rest of you get a chance to look things over and give us some feedback.

Another update... I added some more QB profiles written by a local legend around these parts, Barnaby Wilde.

Please be sure to check back often as there will continue to be content added and news posted in the days leading up to the draft (we're less than 50 days away now)...

*** updated... six RBs are now profiled... more coming soon!

Lots of interesting news coming from the Pro Day workouts and plenty more big ones on the way...

Also, there are some updates in the player profiles.

Check us out and let us know how we're doing.  Also feel free to make requests or argue our projections!

Really awesome job on the draft site Philly, do you mind if I publish your top 5 lists (Yours and Jims)?  I want to create a short draft page this year, let me know.  JYJ :^)

Absolutely.  I'd appreciate it if you could wait until the end of this week.  I need to update those lists.

I also would like to feature your page on our links page (which also needs to be updated - err, developed from scratch).

Heya Jake... good news...

I updated the Top Five at Each Position Page, so now it covers every position.  Jim and I will keep the lists updated as our views change.

Also, the Links page is live.  Let me know if the look works for you.  Your page is featured prominently...

Thanks for the link Philly.  I like your expanded rankings, although I'll probably just list your offensive positions and just link back to the full page for visitors to view the defensive listings.

I probably won't have a chance to complete the page until this weekend, but I'll update it with your latest order of players.

NFL Draft page is complete:

http://www.junkyardjake.com/NFLDraft/index.htm

Philly, if you have time, let me now if that layout is ok.

Also, I noticed on your DraftGuide site, that some of the photos do not appear, I think they may be pointing to photos on your harddrive.  The same problem seems to occur with some of the addresses on your links page.

Well, Jeff (Jim too) with your fine effort here with this, you have forced my hand (a year earlier than expected/we discussed).  "The Gridiron Draft Guide" now has a nice, PHAT link here on "the Gridiron".  Given the quality of your product, the sooner the better, I thought.  And, no, Jake, it did not come at the expense of your link. Since it's a seasonal type thing, it has been (temporarily) put in place of "The REAL Feed" link.  Congratulations and keep up the great work, my fellow Gridironers!

Thanks for the link above Steg.  Hopefully that will pull a few more eyes over to the page.  It's constantly being updated.

Guys--

Great job on the site.

I have a few comments questions.

It seems that neither of you have Matt Jones(QB from Arkansas) as a first rounder.  He has been getting major props from every where(starting with Mort from ESPN).  Do you think he will get into the first round or go early in the second.

Philly-  Do you really think Chicago will take a RB over a WR?

And with Houston releasing their Linebacking corp, don't you think they have to go LB now?

ANd finally, being an Eagle fan, if they stay put in the 1st round, do you think they will go best player available or go after a need.(WR?)

Thanks again for all your time and effort in keeping us up to date.

I like him a lot, but I don't think any team will use a 1st round pick on a player without a position.  He's not ready to step in and start at WR or TE or H-back in the NFL because he has no real experience at any of those positions.  I see him going mid to late second round.

Quote:

It's hard to tell right now.  I know their O-coordinator is really looking for a power back for the offense.  I think Chicago will really try to trade down with a team that is interested in getting either Braylon Edwards or Mike Williams early.  I think we'll see a lot of trading of picks in the first round this year.

Quote:

They're at a bad spot for LBs at #13.  If Derrick Johnson somehow falls that far (which I doubt) then they'll snatch him up.  I believe that Shawne Merriman could even be gone by then (will be reflected in my upcoming mock update).  I think they'll address the position, but not until the 2nd or 3rd round.  There is some decent depth at the position this year.

Quote:
ANd finally, being an Eagle fan, if they stay put in the 1st round, do you think they will go best player available or go after a need.(WR?)
If they stay put (which is unlikely given their arsenal of picks), I see them going for an offensive lineman.  They generally draft for a couple years down the road.  Don't forget that when they pick at #31 in round one, they'll be up again at #35 (Miami AJ Feeley trade) real quick.

Thanks again for all your time and effort in keeping us up to date.
Keep visiting the site.  There will be a LOT of updates and profiles (including Matt Jones) added the week before the draft.  (I have meetings with the NFLPA this coming week, so I won't have much time to get a whole lot of stuff up on the site.)  Thanks for the kind words.  We enjoy doing this.

Hey everyone.  You may have heard that Northwestern DT Luis Castillo, one of the fast-rising draft prospects since the Combine tested positive for steroids.  I have an exclusive scoop at the Gridiron NFL Draft Guide Website that you won't find anywhere else.

Great stuff!  Smart on Castillo's part to be willing include those clauses in his contract so his value does not go down.
