'06 NFL Draft General Discussion Thread

Is it order out of order or order out of order? ... Whatever it is, all I know is a coin flip was involved! It was between the beatniks of San Fran and their "bizarro world" counterparts from the proverbial "other side" of the bay, the roughnecks of Oakland (gee, I wonder who won that "battle"). From "The REAL Feed": Raiders win coin flip over 49ers in draft sweepstakes SI.com: NFL (02.01.2006 16:12) By the way, this is the thread on which I'd like you all to keep your early-on '06 draft talk. While things remain very unclear in the early going, we do not need to start a new '06 draft-related thread for every little rumor that seeps out. When the facts of the matters become more lucid and substantive, of course, threads may be started with respect to particular prospects and the possibilities of where they'll land. Until that time, though, let's stick with and build up this thread.

For the best NFL Draft coverage online, check out Consensus Draft Services. There are nearly 600 seniors profiled (FOR FREE - most sites charge you big bucks to read their player profiles) and all the other usual stuff - mock drafts, top 100, position rankings, etc. There's also a message board where you can talk to some of the NFL stars of tomorrow. Plus, yours truly is one of the site administrators.

Honestly, I've visited CDS a handful of times (as you know, the NFL draft is not my thing,... relative to some of you guys, so...) and they seem to be a good, "Gridiron-compatible" bunch of guys. ... The only thing is that they are also trying to dabble in fantasy football, which matter-of-factly embeds a certain (one-way, mind you) "conflict of interest"... for them to come over here and join in our activities (and even for you, Jeff, for that matter,... which is worrisome to me; when, on the other hand, that "conflict of interest" doesn't exist the other way around, for us over here, which is also an area of mild concern). But, in fact, CDS is NOT set up for fantasy success (and, with all due respect, Jeff,... it by and large shows). ... Meanwhile, though, there could be a wonderful marriage here. They do the NFL draft stuff WELL; we do fantasy football WELL... They're a burgeoning site still in their infancy, relatively speaking; we are a burgeoning site still in our infancy, relatively speaking. The bottom line is, if they could return the favor commensurately, I would GLADLY add them along with JunkyardJake.com to our "Featured Associates" with a link there at the top of EVERY PAGE of "the Gridiron" and elsewhere like I do for JYJ. That way we could both (all, including JYJ) grow from each other's success (as you might remember, Jeff, from our conversations of long ago, it is the LARGE "network" thing that I am ultimately striving for). Could there not be something facilitated here? It seems like a no-brainer... |

| Looks like you (and the rest of the media) jumped the gun on this one. The NFL has indicated that the coin-flip between the Raiders and the Niners has NOT occurred yet. Apparently the AP ran a story and everyone else jumped on it a bit prematurely.

| Just for the record... I think it was the media (then little old me just posting an AP report somewhere WAY down at the end of the line) who jumped the gun on this one. I just want to make sure we're clear on the order of the unfolding of things here... And, with that said,... on Jan 2nd, 2006, 5:52pm, StegRock wrote:| Is it order out of order or order out of order? |

Thought that this, from off "The REAL Feed", was worth sharing with yous... Football: 2006 NFL Mock Draft SportsFilter (05.01.2006 14:42) Wrigley South: The order is out. 1. Houston 2. New Orleans 3. Tennessee 4. New York Jets 5. Green Bay 5. Oakland/SF 7. SF/Oakland 8. Buffalo 9. Detroit 10. Arizona What do these guys need, who will they take? We'll have our own going on here "between the 20's" soon enough, and they'll go MUCH DEEPER, mind you, but it's kind of cool that "The REAL Feed" includes this kind of stuff and I thought I should let yous know. On the of doing our own,... sure, I will eventually organize some official ones, BUT you all are welcome to do some on your own here "between the 20's", our draft center, ANY TIME you want.

Richard Marshall, CB, Fresno St - He's declared and will probably be a second round pick. (Kiper had him ranked #22 on his big board a couple weeks ago, but he's dropped him now - my goodness Kiper is fickle.) Leonard Pope, TE, Georgia - Big (6' 7", 255) guy who can stretch the field and create mismatches all over the place. Will be a first round pick. Ernie Sims, LB/SS, Florida St - Reminds many of Derrick Brooks (without the "good guy" image). Has said he's declaring unless the NFL Advisory Committee gives him a bad grade. Moe Thompson, DE, Grambling via South Carolina - A big fast DE who has had some legal problems. Sat out this past year after enrolling at Grambling subsequent to Spurrier kicking him off the Gamecock squad. I talked to him this past fall prior to his trial (in an exclusive interview) and he insists that his arrest was the result of a prank amongst teammates gone bad. He's very personable and has a fantastic support team led by his mother (who I also talked to for a couple hours one night). I personally don't think he's a behavioral risk at the next level, although I may be biased... Santonio Holmes, WR, Ohio St - He will likely be the first WR selected in April.

Alas,... the coin has apparently, really been flipped... And, the "winner" is... (drum roll, please,... )... a San Francisco Bay-area team! From "The REAL Feed": 49ers win coin toss for sixth pick ESPN: NFL (24.02.2006 16:22) San Francisco's "victory" over the Oakland Raiders on Friday, in a coin toss to determine the sixth and seventh overall choices in the draft, still felt pretty important to 49ers officials.

| Well, people can finally stop comparing him to Mr. Vick-torious. Also, its his SIZE/SPEED combo that makes him dangerous. He doesn't need to be super fast. But a QB of that size, once he gets steam rollin, should do some damage

| The 40 time doesn't bother me at all. I've heard it was a fast track and a slow track... who knows? He's got so many other red flags for me, that the 40 time is the least of my worries.
