Where will they go?  2006 NFL Free Agents

Alright, now that the superbowl is over, let's look ahead to the offseason.  Who are the best free agents and where will they end up?  Step right up and take your guess.  Who will be the primary teams with interest in them and who will sign them?

QB
Drew Brees
Kurt Warner
Jon Kitna
Jeff Garcia
Josh McCown

RB
Edge James
Shaun Alexander
Ahman Green
Jamal Lewis
Chester Taylor
DeShaun Foster

WR
Antwaan Randle El
Reggie Wayne
Koren Robinson
Joe Jurivicious
David Givens
Antonio Bryant
**McCardell has been removed

Others not top tier, but will be a good back up. (have 'competing' chance at starting):
Sage Rosenfels, Jonathon Wells, Verron Haynes,Ron Dayne, Najeh Davenport

Here are my guesses before any news breaks.  We will see how accurate I am.  As time goes on I am sure I will repost more educated guesses.

QB
Very weak free agent class at QB.  I think the draft will be deep at QB since most of these guys are not the future of any franchise.
Drew Brees - Jets, Dolphins, Raiders will be interested, end up signing with the Chargers again by transition tag.
Kurt Warner - Resigns with Cards.  Not even sure if any other team will have interest.
Jon Kitna -  May have chance to 'compete' at Dolphins, Jets, Oakland, but doubt he starts.
Jeff Garcia - Jets, Cards, Dolphins, Raiders.  Ends up signing with Raiders.
Josh McCown- No chance of starting.  Will sign as back up at Giants.

RB
Edge James - Seattle, Carolina, Baltimore all interested.  Ends up signing with Seattle.
Shaun Alexander - every team is interested.  Ends up signing with Green Bay or Carolina.
Ahman Green - teams are scared of him after injury. Atlanta signs him to incentive laden contract.
Jamal Lewis - Stays in Baltimore after losing out on Chester Taylor.
Chester Taylor - Many teams look at him as a bargain.  Comes down to Baltimore and Indy.  Signs with Indy.
DeShaun Foster -  Panthers resign him to incentive contract.

WR
Antwaan Randle El - Steelers, Bears, and Redskins.  Redskins win out.
Reggie Wayne - Chargers and Colts.  Colts 'tag' him
Koren Robinson - Minnesota resigns him after interest from New Orleans and San Diego
Keenan McCardell - Chargers, San Fran, Dolphins.  Ends up staying in San Diego
Joe Jurivicious - Steelers, Seahawks, Giants.  Giants bring him back for another run.
David Givens - Redkins, Bears, Carolina.  Bears win out on Givens after losing out on Randle El.
Antonio Bryant - New England, San Diego, Dolphins all interested.  Goes to New England

Good luck to others in their guessing.  So early in the off season it will be extremely interesting to watch.  The wealth of RB free agents will be fun to watch.

You can take the steelers off the board for signing anyone. They will be tring to sign too many D players of their own. KIMO, Taylor, Ect.

If Edge doesnt end up in Miami {I hear trade rumers for both backs presently in Miami} or Jacksonville,( Edge is a florida native who hates to fly) i'll eat my Steelers AFC champions hat.

Alexander will stay put!

Randell El will end up in Baltimore. The Ravens love to sign Ex Steelers. If not he will remain in Pitt.

We mean football contract. I know, maybe he's under contract to clean your gutters or cut your lawn for the next several years or so. However, as for the  San Diego Chargers he's a UFA this year. Right now.

No... no he isn't. Theredzone is wrong.

McCardell signed a contract extension a year ago that keeps him with the team through 2007.

Way to be an ass about it, though. Well done. It would have been especially funny if you were right. Too bad you're not.

Now, now, boyz! Let's play nice!

I must say... that page from that other fantasy web site was last updated on NOVEMBER 14, 2005!  Yike! Not what I'd call up-to-the-minute information.

In any event, to "the Gridiron", Thorolf!  I hope you enjoy the show and decide to become a part of it.

Thanks, Steg...

BTW, McCardell's contract extension was signed last March, so they were still wrong in November.

FWIW, I am keeping my own list if anyone's interested: http://home.wi.rr.com/alasik/FA2006/FA2006.xls

NICE!!!  Any interest in making that effort of yours there a formal part of the show here at FantasyFootballer.com, Thorolf.  As almost any of the old-timers 'round here would tell you, I usually don't go about things with newcomers this aggressively.  I'm the type who is loyal to those who have "given it up over the long haul" for me and cautious when it comes to "Johnny come latelys".  That said, when I see an effort like that, it can't be denied.  Ultimately, building up in this kind of manner, providing passionate dudes in our hobby with opportunity and a platform... and a way to contribute, is what this site/effort is ALL about!  If you'd like to see your efforts there become a formal part of the site, give me the high-sign and let's get in touch and see what we can do.  But, do NOT feel pressured, man.  I know you've just arrived.  I'm just throwin' it out there...

I thought you said Reatch Cauldwell !

I hate crappy web sites. For shame on them. I do however think it woud be cool if you could get K. McCardell to clean your gutters and cut your grass.

My agent is in constant contact with Edge's agent about that very thing.

I appreciate the offer, Steg, but I actually already work with a fantasy site.

You are welcome to use the FA list, though. It will change often as I see guys being re-signed. Actually, it changed a couple of times just yesterday.

I DIGRESS...
Hmmmm...  I don't know if I am following here...  Do they have exclusive rights to you?  You under contract with them?  Do they not want to bring into the fold your quite impressive efforts here in following the free-agent statuses of players?  It seems unbelievable that a web site cannot make some room for such great "pro bono" effort.  Actually, getting those kinds of efforts made by the passionate little guys in our hobby some exposure is what the FantasyFootballer.com "grassroots project" is all about.  I adopt an "incorporate" philosophy as opposed to a "corporate" one.  That said, I am not going to formally incorporate your stuff here without some minimal coordination between us.  I would need to know a) that and then b) how often you are going to maintain/update the page and, moreover, I'd want/need to be able to throw a FantasyFootballer.com logo on it.  I'm not going to throw a "FEATURED" link up (that will be on EVERY page of "the Gridiron") to just "some random dude's" unendorsed stuff.  Not that I overly value the attribute of "professionalism", but such a move can lead to an over-the-top unprofessional feel.  Anyway, whatever...  I just throw it out there...  Some things stick; some don't...  Surely, your link will remain on this thread.

It is looking like 2 more QBs will be become free agents.

It appears that Chad Pennington is going to be cut.  He will charge $12 million against the cap, but it appears the Jets are going to suck it up now rather than later.  Especially when you take into account the Jets will not have to pay his salary realizing a basic net impact of zero.  Makes sense to let him to.  Where will he end up?  Who the hell knows.  Probably out of the league or take the route of Tim Couch of trying to prove he can play somewhere.....

The second free agent will probably be Brian Griese.  With the emergence of Chris Simms, the Bucs want Griese to take a pay cut.  Considering he reworked his deal last year, he doesn't want to rework it again.  Bucs will probably let him go.

I think Griese will get interest from the Ravens, Jets, and Lions.  Maybe even the Raiders.....  He will end up signing somewhere and be in a competition for a starting job.

It was a little chewy but overall satisfying. I enjoy my hats with a light holindaise and a tad bit of relish. Its imperitive that the hat is properly cooked.
