'06 GBRFL Draft GENERAL DISCUSSION thread
« on: Sep 2nd, 2006, 8:46am »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

This thread is for general discussion and commentary on the (13th) annual GBRFL restocking Draft set to kick off TOMORROW, Sunday, September 3rd at 2:30 p.m. (EST).  EVERYBODY is welcome!!!  Whether you are in the league or not, feel free to post your thoughts on this thread.  Given our lack of centralization this year, marked by the old Stegger's here being in Hawaii, I expect our on-line "show" to be better than ever,... the real deal.  I hope some of yous can carve away a little out of your Sunday afternoon to drop on by and check it out.  The thread where we will be making our picks is:

Hey, Steg.  Just to make it fun, could you post the scoring system and rules on this thread?  Otherwise, we don't know what we're looking at.

It is said by the Master, "Knowledge acquired through a natural propensity for it is its highest level; knowledge acquired through study is the next highest; something learned in response to difficulties encountered is again the next highest.  But those among the common people who do not learn even when vexed with difficulties-they are at the bottom of the heap."

Tarvarius Jackson went a bit early IMO. I think that some other players would have gone instead.
He did need a QB though. He will be a start in 2008.

Guys, I can't donate too much effort to this.  I'm just going to give a very brief team-by-team, player-by-player "rough" SMILEY "analysis".  This is not going to be all too scientific.  I'm not even going to check for exactly where each guy was taken.  I'm just going off memory and feeling...  And, remember "it's all relative"...

RB Jerious Norwood
RB Brian Calhoun (= so-so)
RB Verron Haynes

Now,... I'll do my own...  But, I, of course, did make my own picks, so..., of course,... I'm going to "like" them... "overall",... but I don't "love" any of them...

Ok, Steg, it's time for my defense (not quite doctoral, but nevertheless a defense).

Vince Young -- needed to pick him up because I have Billy Volek, who may in fact not be the starter for much of this season.  Kerry Collins is over the hill, and Vince is the future for that team.

Kevin Curtis -- a solid #3 receiver, very nice production last year, is probably in the gradual process of taking over Bruce's production entirely

Amani Toomer -- well, he was my last pick in the draft, and he did do somewhat decently last year, and I only expect younger Manning to do better this year

LaBrandon Toefield -- risky pick, admittedly; but not too bad if you consider Fred Taylor gets injured more often than Koren Robinson gets into trouble

Todd Heap --  love this pick, primarily because you all hated it; I'm guaranteeing 800 yards and 8 touchdowns for this guy, which may well make him a legitimate 3rd receiver for me to start; this is based not only on his history (he's year-in and year-out consistent) but on the upswing he gets from having a real quarterback for the first time in years
