On the hotseat...

As the season nears its completion and exciting playoff battles begin, another topic begins to rear its head.

Which coaches will likely be relieved of their duties in the offseason?

The way I see it...

Morninhweg.
LeBeau.
Fassel.
McGinnis.
Holmgren.
Jauron.
Campo.

What do you guys think?

I don't see how Holmgren holds on to both GM and HC titles. Under that premise, I don't see him staying as just the coach. So he'll be the leading canidate for one of the others listed.

Morninhweg probably gets another year, not necessarily desevedly so, but I think he will. M&M will both be gone then the team does not show major improvement.

The others, well, there's probably an owner out there who will feel the opportunity to land Holmgren is to good to pass up, so they'll chop the current guy and sign the walrus.

The guys I listed are the ones I feel could be out at the end of the year.  I don't have a real good feel for some of them and their relationships with their owners, so I was looking for some insight there.

I agree with FourTwoOh on Holmgren.  I think they might offer to keep him on as GM only - seeing how difficult it is to handle both jobs effectively.  (I just hope that Andy Reid is the exception to that rule.)

I agree with every coach mentioned except Fassel.  No, I'm not a Giants fan, but I think he has done a fairly good job with what he's got.  Not the smartest coach in the world, and has a really boring offense, but some of the problems he has experienced this year are not entirely his fault.  Not keeping Andersen comes to mind.

I know this is not directly and precisely relevant, but I thought this peripherally related piece could add something to the discussion, particularly given CoachH's last post:  http://www.fanball.com/article.cfm/ID.1027.  Guess that "fossil" ain't such a bad "couch" after all!

Well, according to CNN/SI's poll on this topic, Marty in Detriot heads the list of coaches who will be getting their pink slips at season's end.  Here is the link:  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/index.html.  And, no, Jim Fassel was not included on the list!

HOWEVER, Mr. Fossil is running second in ESPN's poll , which can be found on the following page along with a nice article on the topic of coaches on the proverbial "hot seat":  http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/pasquarelli_len/1475267.html.

Meanwhile, in another article at ESPN, Jim Fassel's job-security ranking is the only one labeled "incomplete." Here a link to that piece:  http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/pasquarelli_len/1475334.html.
