| Those refs were a bit picky about not letting the Raiders O-linemen get a head start by moving before the ball was snapped. Let's not let our loyalties get the best of us here. As an impartial observer, I thought the refs were a bit overzealous about throwing the flag, but they did it both ways. Tennessee also had 11 penalties for more than 110 yards. The real difference between the two teams were all those false-starts by the Raiders, which is not a subjective call by the refs.

Not to mention, the Raiders benefited HUGELY from two of the "bigger" calls of the night, that Robaire Smith "unsportsmanlike conduct" episode, which was the (long e) most punishing penalty of the night occuring on what amounted to 4th-and-22 and after which the Raiders went on to score a TD, and that ticky-tacky "late hit" call on Samari Rolle, which kept that Raider drive alive and led to a field goal. I don't know... That's 10 Raider points right there very much so "assisted" by the zebras. On top of that, though I think the "tuck" rule needs amending, the Raiders also benefited BIG-time from that "incorrect, according to the rules," call on Steve McNair's fumble. Didn't the Raiders get a field goal after that as well? That's 13 of their points partially attributable to zebra assistance. But, I digress, back to the penalties, this is nothing new for the Raider Nation. Isn't gettin' penalties the Raider m.o. or at least signature?

The call that bothered me the most was the touchdown that wasn't. Couldn't have stayed in the end zone, got pushed, got the TD. The strip before the whistle that became the strip after the whistle was also very important in how the game came out in the end. If you watched, like many other games for all sorts of teams, the announcers were very clear about what they saw and how bad the calls were. Hey, we saw the replays over and over again. I think it applies to fantasy a lot if you own one of the players who lost those fantasy points. (I didn't, but I feel your pain.) Beyond that, I feel it's long past the time when we should have full time professional refs who get paid for good expertise. Not part timers. But maybe that should be another thread....

However, based on our message-board descriptions here on "the Gridiron", the topic of this thread is indubitably more appropriate on "the Sidelines" than it is here in "the Red Zone". As such, it will be moved there for continued discussion. Thank you for your anticipated understanding and future compliance. |
| Guess it's the ref's fault here too. Ref's everywhere and of all kinds just hate the Raiders and their fans. It's a conspiracy.
