I do not "get" the hater mindset!

It's really hard for me to understand/identify with the "HATERS" that exist in the world.  I stumbled on this tonight:

http://www.jumptheshark.com/g/georgemichael.htm.

I canNOT even fathom people's even being provoked enough to give this this much thought, no less direct such "ill-will" toward it.  I just don't "get" the "HATER" mindset.  If I don't like something, I just move on.  I don't wish them failure (in what they like) or even give it much thought, period.  That's that for that...  Next!

...

(As for the "football" point justifying this being made a thread on "the Sidelines"...)

Personally, though I don't watch the George Michael Sports Machine all too often (anymore; it was a fixture in my dorm room during college, though), I like the show and, actually, I watched it tonight and just fell in love with my first rookie because of it. I "indicated" (elsewhere here) that I am rooting for him.  Now, I REALLY am!  Nice kid...  I hope he makes it,... and I hope he is on my GBRFL team when he does. ...

Maybe you missed the whole point of the Jump the Shark website.  The idea was to determine when a show went from good to bad.  Of course that will require people to mention just why the show is bad.  Besides, the comments mentioned on the website hardly seem like those of "haters".

Onto the show... I watched it briefly in the mid 80s before I had cable.  I never really cared for it and I really started to dislike it (i.e., not hate) when Howard Eskin appeared.  (Howard Eskin is an arch-villain for Philadelphia sports fans.  You'd have to live in the area to understand.)  I didn't even realize the show was still on (though it may not be in the Philly market, I don't know.)

To be a "hater", at least how I understand it and am employing it, does not mean to be a hate-filled Nazi; it means to be a naysayer of sorts.  As for the specific comments, there were "hater", not "hateful", comments.  You are very right, though, in that I did not read down the page far enough so as to get a better sense of the whole page (no less the whole site as you point out, although I am somewhat familiar with the point of that site, which is not of interest to me).  I saw that the first three comments were QUITE negative and "hater-like", but the fifth comment is very nice (I hadn't seen it... it is very short).  I was focusing on comments like the first, second, third, sixth, eighth, etc., comments, the loooong ones, where people (relatively-speaking, at least) ranted on and on.  But, there are people who do give the show some kudos and come to its defense.  Bottom line, though, I just don't "get" how people can put so much energy into dissecting why and how much they do NOT like something or someone (especially vis-a-vis the (dearth of) energy put in to praise).  The smaller details of my presentation might have been a bit off (they weren't for writers numbered 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, etc.), but I remain steadfast in the "bigger picture" and "spirit" of my point, which goes basically unaddressed in your post.

The site is what it is... I don't always agree with it, but people have their opinions...

Good point... so how do you really feel about ABC World News?

I only bring this up because it is a bit hypocritical for you to say something like your line above, when you're just as guilty of it with certain topics.  You said (previously), "If I don't like something, I just move on."  The thing is, that's not always true.  Not that I'd encourage you to ever stop taking on those things that you don't like...

However, I will grant you this: you do not hesitate to praise where praise is due, and maybe that is the difference and the point you are making???

I follow...  I should have prefaced...  I specifically (but, not explicitly herein, granted) meant devoting much thought to things disliked that don't matter in life.  What's going on on Peter Jennings, to me, does matter and is worth discussing from ALL perspectives!  The George Michael Sports Machine, Chris Berman, etc., are not "important issues" and, as I see it, putting much thought into (articulating) your dislike of such really "does no good".
