Guys,

Take care of the joint for me.  As many or most of you probably know by now, I will not be around much over the next two weeks, especially this upcoming weekend AND between Friday, July 2nd and Saturday, July 10th.

Over and Out,
Steg

Right now, in Denver (Littleton, actually) at Markie's (Skcus Redef).  Got hung up night one, had to spend it in Atlanta.  Arrived Sunday late morning; headed right up to the mountains.  Hit up some key "good-bye" places, Glenwood Springs and Mt. Evans; made it as far west as Parachute, CO.  Quite emotional, actually... don't know exactly when life will be bringing me back through this "wondrous" neck of the woods (where I'd love to settle some day).  Slid into Markie's here on Monday evening.  Met with Dr. Seeburger for breakfast this morning (you guys might remember having heard me mention him before with respect to the grad school saga); visited DU and met up with an old fellow Russian major, and (impromtu) visited some other VERY old friends, parents of a best bud of mine who went  to DU for a couple years, who Mark happens to live near.  They put me on the phone with their son/my bud, Will, and I could tell he almost fainted on the phone when he heard my voice...  It's been 11 YEARS!!!  It turns out that he is REALLY into fantasy football.  He actually got his start back with us in the old "Mark Malone League".  As such, he got right on "the Gridiron"... our newest member ChllyWly. Well, over and out for a bit, guys.

Steg's BA-HACK!!! Took it by truck from Denver to the Jersey shore in just 4 stops and actually in just 5 or 6 hours a day. ... Great trip (back... both there and to here); glad to be back and moving on (with things).

Okay, fellas, I know the withdrawl is going to be rough, but... I'm headin' down to DC tomorrow morn, takin' off sometime between 7:00 and 7:30.  Computer will be dismantled when I get off-line here now.  I probably won't be back on-line, at least not for any significant amount of time, until Monday night or Tuesday.  This is a very exciting and joyful time for me and my little family.  Getting on with the next chapter of my life post-Korea has taken way more time than originally anticipated.  This is the ultimate culmination of a lot of patience, sacrifice and persistence.  Well, over and out!  I'll see yas soon... from a very different, but positive setting.

Now,... go order some t-shirts.  I'd love to be collecting my e-mail in a couple days and be greeted with some orders.

Well, here I sit at Steve Warner's in Virginia.  I was ridin' high there for a bit, good-deal car, last-minute scholarship, finally headin' to my destiny...  Well, reality check, ... with the good also comes the bad. I got a bit (I would say A LOT; Steve might say a little; truth is probably betwixt) burned on the apartment deal.  Both in time and money (though it probably wouldn't have been that expensive, gas, tolls, food given Steve's ever-present kind, obliging nature ), I could not really afford another trip down to DC to see an apartment, and instead of going with an apartment complex or community run by a housing corp or something, where there is more accountability and perhaps a way to see photos and layouts and such (and where cleanliness is more standard/expected), I went with a privately-owned apartment to get myself just three blocks from campus and what I thought was a good deal.  WRONG!!!  BAD MOVE!!!  This place was a shithole.  Dingy, filthy basement apartment next to the boiler room.  BRUTAL!!!  I am ultimately staying at Steve's tonight (thank God for the good people) and will be dealing with the landlord of the place tomorrow along with finding another domicile to inhabit, oh, and dealing with, uh, school.  Anyway, the good news for you guys is I'll be around off-and-on for the rest of the evening,... or maybe that's the bad news.

Well, guys, I've got mixed news, mostly good, though, especially for you GBRFLers out there.

First off, though, as many of you have probably noticed, I haven't been around much, a bit more so than expected.  However, my fellow Gridironers, having now gone through a week's worth of class, I can tell you all that more of the same can be expected.  I got some SERIOUS education ahead of me before I can call myself Dr. StegRock. You are going to have to wean yourselves off the Steg.

Anyway, back to the news.  It has been a harrowing week.  I still haven't seen my deposit for the shithole and never may...  Lesson learned... the hard way!  The poor just get poorer.  As for looking for a place, it has been A LOT of work.  But, doing it from here bore much better fruit.  I finally got approved for a great one just a few hours ago.  It's in the northwest section of DC, i.e. for those who don't know, like me up until being here, the good side of town.  It's a sweet place and only 10 or so minutes away from Catholic U. and the price is right.  However, I won't be able to move in until next week, Wednesday as it stands right now.

So, as concerns you guys, especially the GBRFLers, I am heading back home to mom's for the weekend.  I'll be leaving Steve's (DD's) here soon.  I will fire my computer back up there, so you guys will have me this weekend.  The GBRFL and GBRFL2 web sites will be updated and the lineup submission forms will be activated. This should all be done by Sunday night.

That's about it for now.  I've got a road to hit.

Steg, I'm glad that you moved into the NW side of town. Their are some real slums near CU. It will be a bit longer commute, but a much better place to live. Also the "quailty" of neighborhood near you will be much better. The east side of Capitol street can be dangerous my friend.
Either way, keep your doors and windows double bolted at all times my friend. Not to mention your car. I would leave nothing in your car, unless it is in the trunk. Don't leave anything visible through the windows. If they want it, they will take it. The police are a joke in DC. I'm certain that you will be pleased with your new residence. You can always start looking now for a place next year, or even sooner. I know you have a limited budget, so good luck buddy.

NW is a  nice area.  I don't think you need to worry.  Just like any city, of course you want to lock your stuff up and not leave it visible.  Hell, I live in suburbia and if you leave stuff in your car you are screwed.  (damn kids!)

No need to worry about the commute.  One thing in DC is that it does not matter how far you are....it is the traffic. It can take an hour to go a mile.

Congrats on your new place!  I am sure it will be great!
