That was horrible. Did you guys see that pre game ad with T.O. and that lady in a towel in the locker room? How can they do that? The MNF game is watched by Millions of people with their kids every week. I even watch it with my son once in awhile. Last year it was the "accidental" titty shot of Janet Jackson, which I thought was very inappropriate. The NFL could not control that, so toss that out. That was nudity, but tonight was the dropping of a towel by a very pretty women in front of T.O. The T.O says " I guess they will have to play without me." What in the hell does this say to kids watching this game? It is ok to skip a game for sex????? This is ABC on MNF, man I bet there will some mention of this, not only me here, but all over ESPN and "pardon the Interruption" for sure! That was just a classless ad. ABC should have thought this through. I know that the audience is mainly male, but just don't think this ad should have been aired. With the NFL promoting good family values, and fining players for using bad language on post game interviews, what will this do to there reputation?...nothing...ABC...nothing... Hey don't get me wrong here, I love great ads, but that should not have been aired before the MNF game. I bet ya it get pulled before the west coast airs the game.

I CONCUR RESOUNDINGLY!!! VERY POOR TASTE!!! I haven't watched that show, but I think that show to be of very poor taste and very indicative of the (relativist) moral decay of American society. Moreover, where are the NOW protestors now? This show reflects terribly on American women, in particular, in a very substantive and substantial way, and especially to people of other countries.

| I'm not quite sure what you arguing here Steg. Are you basing your argument on the promo from last night and/or any other advertisements for the show? If so, it's a little disingenuous to call for NOW protesters to come forward when you haven't even seen the show. The title may be a tad misleading (purposely so) and the promos are much more provocative than the show itself (again, marketing). I've seen more than half of the episodes and I can't say it's any more degrading to women than any other show out there. Actually it seems to have an opposite effect. The show attempts to empower its female characters, or at least illustrate their struggles to achieve the empowerment.

I haven't seen the show. I am talking strictly about the promos and particularly about the promo preceding last night's game. In any event, let's just suffice it to say that my "argument" (really overinflated word for my mere sentimental agreement with DF's post) is the that the promo(s) are indicative of the moral decay. Does that make you feel better? I didn't mean any offense to a show, as it appears via the promos, to be about women (to use your kind of terms) tripping over themselves in their quest for empowerment via sex. T-and-A as a tool for female empowerment... Brilliant! In any event, again, let's just say that the promos make American women out to be sluts in the front of the world, like, e.g., my wife. Female "empowerment" would never manifest itself in such a way in Korean television. Let's also say that my sense of "degrading" (to women, in this case) is one step removed from the veneer and that I suspect that that show is likely to be consistent with that sense.

With all due disrespect, I really think there is a significant difference in magnitude and context between my inanimate phallic smiley and what we are talking about. ... It's funny, though, as I was initially responding to this thread, I was thinking about this and wondering if some asshole would bring "what a dickhead" up and throw it in my face (as if I were unaware). And, lo and behold,... who turns up to do just that? Surprise... not!

| Fair enough... ... (To all: PLEASE read (and contemplate) the following thoroughly or not at all, especially if you are planning to comment. Thank you.) But, I do want to relate this very short real-world story to you all. It really relates... Early in my years in Korea, up in Seoul, I had made this Korean friend. He was about 28 or so years old and unmarried. We didn't end up being friends all too long, but for a couple months there, we got relatively pretty close (I visited his house and met his mom and he visited my place). ... Well,... and, incidentally, this is the incident (the realization I had from) which was the beginning of the end, so to speak, of our friendship,... we were sitting in one of your MANY run-of-the-mill coffee shops in Seoul and there was a poster of, if my memory serves me correctly, Meg Ryan, or, in any event, some sexy American actress, not unusual in this type of place. I noticed him looking over at it quite frequently and said, particularly since we ALWAYS were talking about how hot Korean girls are and I wanted to give a little love to my American gals, "She's pretty hot, huh?" I can almost remember his response verbatum. He said back something like this, "Yea. But, she's only good for fucking. American women don't make good wives (with the intimation being, 'like Korean women do'), but they look good and like sex." I was VERY taken aback (and, quite frankly, insulted). I could deluge you all with further examples and extrapolations (which I do not have the time for and do not see the need here), but, suffice it to say, I see this true story to be sufficiently exemplary and telling. Hopefully, I'll meet with some of you someday (who I don't know/haven't) and I can more thoroughly share the insights of my (unique) time over there. I will add just this... Regarding the sex part at least (i.e. not necessarily the wifely part), I think my Korean friend there has it just the opposite, and this is based on my actual experience and the actual experiences of some of my buds over there, surely NOT the Korean media. There is A LOT, A LOT, A LOT that goes into that reality WAY beyond the scope of this discussion and WAY more than can be accomodated by this discussion, but it nevertheless is an interesting side note. The ultimate point here being, he gets this mindset from American movies and media. Look, every society has their "racy" (even childish, one could say) cartoons, slang, jokes, sayings, and stuff (even worse) (that aren't OVER-exploited,... a racy joke book here, a racy cartoon there; a porn magazine here, some sexual inuendo there, not biggies when kept in their place). Fine! But, a racy little cartoon with animated characters, or should I say, caricatures doesn't lend itself to making the kind of rude and crude generalizations my Korean friend there above made, and I feel confident that our little friend "what a dickhead" ( ) here is MUCH more akin to and has a similar level of impact, or should I say, innocuousness as a racy cartoon (hell, he is a cartoon of sorts) (moreover, one "tucked away" on a what... mid-range trafficked fantasy football web site, the overwhelming demographic of which is 18-to-50-year-old males) than real, live, flesh-and-blood people acting (out openly during prime time on publicly-broadcast network television with millions (of mainly grown men, but also of women and children) watching, moreover, possibly around the world). That promo was like a lead-in or trailer to a hardcore porn flick, for goodness sake. ... To point out a small-to-moderate level of hypocrisy here would be acceptable, I guess. But, to call someone an outright hypocrite because of this would be to miss the aforementioned IMPORTANT distinction.

bgsfan, I think Steg is referring to his original point that as a result of our popular culture and media (surely facilitated by famous tramps like Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson), some of the world has formulated an opinion that American women are perhaps abit too extroverted by their standards. Not to undermine Steg's point, because he is correct, but quite frankly who gives a fc&k what those people think about our culture? Quote:| To point out a small-to-moderate level of hypocrisy here would be acceptable, I guess. | I used the label 'hypocrite' in a playful and jesting sort of way. I don't really believe you are a hypocrite (and if I did, you know I would have left the comment there and argued with you on the point), and besides, to label you a hypocrite for such a trivial thing would be an insult to true hypocrites like Jesse Jackson, Rush Limbaugh, William Bennett, almost every single televangelist and numerous members of the clergy. Quote:| Steg's little friend "what a dickhead" |
| Personally, I think your little friend is in poor taste, but to quote myself in this very message Quote: what I think. (Although honestly, the few times you have used it on the 'Red Zone Players' board, I really wanted to remove the link from my site for that week.) As far as the parallel to the ABC soft-porn Monday Night football intro, you are right, there is none because of the magnitude, influence and intrusiveness of network TV. However, let me pose this hypothetical; say that you decide to publicly advertise 'The Gridiron' at some point and you just bought one of the billboards on the New Jersey Turnpike, would you have your little penis friend waving to traffic as they pull into the exit 18 Vince Lombardi Travel Plaza ? I hope the answer is 'No' But the real point is this, if bad taste was a crime, penitentiaries would be filled with the likes of Jerry Springer, John Waters, 50% of network TV sitcom writers, anyone ever associated with any of the 15 'Police Academy' movies and Phil Collins. So the next time you hear Ann Coulter say that the FCC should suspend ABC's license for such a ridiculous incident, you should realize what a psychopath she is , and what kind of absurd precedent that would set.
