We may be waiting a looooong while for this to get hashed out,... which I suppose is not a bad thing because I guess that means that in the interim Tags would remain the man.  From "The REAL Feed":

Tagliabue appoints commissioner search committee
ESPN: NFL (05.04.2006 16:12)
Steelers chairman Dan Rooney and Panthers owner Jerry Richardson were named co-chairmen of the committee that will spearhead efforts to choose his successor.
 
So, does that mean Rooney has been eliminated from consideration/has eliminated himself from consideration?  I think he himself is a good candidate.

A LOCAL source claims it's going to be a LOCAL guy from the Jets organization... according to "The REAL Feed":

It is almost a done deal, with only the owners' stamp approval required. By sometime Wednesday afternoon, Roger Goodell, a former Jets public relations intern, will be named to succeed retiring commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

As I am working on the finishing touches over at StegsList.com, I just hear on ESPN (some of you may have heard it, too), "We've got breaking news...  They're setting up a podium in Chicago.  There's going to be an announcement.  Let's go to John Clayton live in Chicago."  And,... of course, a little shock of excitement goes through me as my eyes dart toward the tube, and I'm thinking Thomas Jones trade news, Cedric Benson injury news... But, of course not,... it's just that it looks like this Goodell guy is going to be the next NFL commish... Ho-hum... ...
