I very clearly remember the whole story playing out in front of me when I was growing up.  Vince Papale was a fan favorite at the Vet. I definitely want to see the movie, although I've heard there are some "liberties" taken with the story that upset some diehard Eagles fans. All-in-all, though, it's supposed to be a great story. (I still don't buy Mark Wahlberg as a South Philly Italian.)

Saw the film...I'd rate it about 3 to 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. The story is a great one though!!

I saw it too.  Good movie, although it was a couple years before my time.  Kinda like an NFL style "Rudi" but not quite as good.

I am curious as to what "liberties" were taken.  They show some real life clips at the end.

Alas, I just saw Invincible tonight.  I actually think the "story" is better than "Rudi" though the movie wasn't.  (But, like DB, it's all before my time.  I was 5, 6, and 7 during Papale's three years in the league.)  Anyway, the thing is Papale actually went on to play three solid years in the NFL as a SPECIAL-teamer.  As for the movie, both my wife and I actually thought it was pretty darn good.  Our only thought was that (and this is saying A LOT coming from a Korean girl whose upbringing and culture gives her absolutely NO friction with the sport of American football) it could have been about 30 minutes or so longer.  His life, especially prior to the open tryouts, could have been quite a bit more developed, which would have made those throat-tightening scenes have more emotional impact.  I ultimately got "vaklempt (sp.?)" three times:  when Vermeil went out to talk to him in the parking lot after the open tryout, in the Vermeil's office when he told him he made the team, and in the end when he scored the touchdown.  My eyes watered up a little and my throad tightened, but it never really came out.  Just not enough emotional build-up.  I will say this, though,... in the face of and in spite of the skeptics, both my wife and I thought Mark "Marky Mark" Wahlberg did a great job.  It may have been a hard sell, but I thought he sold it as well as he could have.

Anyway, interesting side note,... I don't get out to see very many movies, but, as documented on the "G.T.K.Y.G. - Topic:  Movies" thread, the last two movies I've seen in the theater have both been football movies.  The last one was the also solid, but not incredible remake of The Longest Yard.  Who'd a thunk, huh???

Anyway, this has got me SO PRIMED for Sunday!!! ... ...
