Title: GBRFL2 Draft Administration & Discussion Thread
Post by StegRock on Aug 20th, 2003, 12:18am
Fellas,

This is the thread on which to make comments on your picks AS WELL AS hammer the rules/guidelines of you all's draft out.

Some final notes before you guys (completely) take the reigns here...

In case you guys want to refer to it one last time, here is a link to the CBFL administration thread, the initial post of which states those "draft rules":

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=54;action=display;num=1056943426.

HERE IS THE LINK TO YOUR FIRST "OFFICIAL" GBRFL2 WEB PAGE, YOUR "ROSTERS" PAGE:

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl2/rosters.htm. SWEET... JOININ' THE FAMILY!
[smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Usually team #'s in the GBRFL are not determined by the draft order. But, to keep it simple and since this is you all's origination draft, anyway, I am just going to use your "draft order" numbers as your team numbers for '03. So, you can also figure out your respective schedules by visiting the "Schedule" page at the GBRFL site.

Given our experimental nature here on "the Gridiron", you will notice that I did some innovative things with the draft order in our special effort to achieve draft equity, besides that which had been discussed. I not only applied that special serpentine method, but I also reversed Rounds 11 through 20 from the order that Rounds 1 through 10 took and I applied a special order for Round 22, the round in which you select your coaches. I am really excited to find out what you guys think when everything is said and done.

Lastly, I did not include team names on your "Rosters" page as I have not received one from everybody yet.

Oh, one other thing, Gene, I hope I got your last name right! I induced it from your e-mail address. [smiley=shrug.gif] Please tell me if I got it wrong!

Good luck, everybody! I am so happy to be bringing you all into the GBRFL family and I hope this is the beginning of many years together for all of us.

Yours Truly,
Steve Steg [smiley=smileytrash.gif]

Looks good Steg... Now let's get this show on the road guys! I've been waiting to make a pick for weeks now (although I'm not too crazy about my draft position, but oh well... what can you do?)

Man! I was praying [smiley=priest.gif] for the #1 pick... I normally don't want it, but this time I had ONE player in mind that I just had to have and now (at the 10 spot) I have ZERO chance of getting him... :'( [smiley=bawling.gif] That's just the (bad) luck of the draw. (As I sit here staring at my computer screen, shaking my head... [smiley=no.gif])

At least with 1.08 you also get a 2.01...

I get 1.07 and 2.10! Based solely on the first 2 rounds, where all the studs are, I've got the worst position.

Where were you when I tried to explain why this draft format was less equitable than an ordinary snake draft?

I just talked to Jimmy and he is stoked on his #1 pick. He said, "The tide is turning already!"

He said he's going to check things out when he gets to work and should make his selection sometime this morning (he lives in California). We talked about who he might take at #1 and I think you guys are going to be shocked... :o

Actually, yes, the 7th pick is probably this draft format's "10th pick", i.e., it is the toughest. BUT, if you go through the whole draft, you will see that it ALL definitely evens out quite nicely, not just by way of the really late rounds, either. It is just that for the guy with the 7th pick the BIG screw job round happens to be Round 2 and his BIG "advantage" round is Round 9 and, the real cincher, making it the worst pick, is that he still doesn't really have a "premium" top (3 to 5) pick. BUT, he does get a pretty big bump in Round 3 and, OVERALL, that 7th spot is NOT nearly as bad as the 10th spot in a "regular" snake draft. If you're well tuned in, you'll realize it as the draft goes on! That having been said, you need to start the draft first before anything is, well, "realized"!

I'm not complaining about my position (OK, maybe a little, but not blaming anyone)... but it looks like I may be drafting for the future more than the present. I'm willing to lose in the first year and build a dynasty that will last a long time and bring me multiple championships over the long haul. That being said, I still think I can outdraft the rest of you mugs and take the championship home this year too! [smiley=boxer.gif]

With the top 6, some would say 7 or 8, rb so tightly grouped, might as well grab the one you like/predict to come out on top. Nice choice.

Phil, complain/blame away! You ended up with what amounts to this draft's worst pick... this draft's 10th pick! It's just that it is not as bad as a 10th in a regular snake draft, but it is still the worst of the 10.

On that note, has anyone sent Gene/PrimeTime an e-mail regarding his having been on the clock [smiley=ontheclock.gif] here for a while? Is he even aware that he is [smiley=ontheclock.gif] ?

In case you didn't know already, Jim is a big Lambs fan. Living in So Cal, he's followed them for a long time and against my better judgement, took Faulk with the first pick. We all know that when healthy, the Marshall is completely capable of putting up top tier numbers, but IMO he's too big of a risk to take at #1. I gave him my 2 cents when we talked this morning, but this guy is as stubborn as they get! He knew his pick would be questioned, but he believes in what he's doing and I can respect him for that... I guess.

I've got views that go against the norm on any number of subjects, :), with "risk" being one of them as it applies to our hobby. Unless you are talking rounds of seperation in where a guy should go, I just don't give it much weight. Faulk is going to go no lower than than 5th or 6th overall in a outrageously high percentage of leagues. How much less risk has a person taking him 6th assumed, than the guy taking him 1st?

Title: Re: GBRFL2 Draft Administration & Discussion Threa
Post by Walker Boh on Aug 20th, 2003, 3:32pm
I see what you're saying 420 and you make a good point, but I still think drafting a recently injured player at any time in the first round is "risky" and taking a recently injured player at #1 is very risky. I'm not saying it's the "wrong" thing to do, I just wouldn't have done it.

This draft isn't even one day old yet, and I'm getting very concerned about the speed at which we're drafting. At this rate, a few NFL teams will have had their bye-week by the time we finish all 22 rounds.

I think that if we can't do approximately 3 rounds a day, we might need to re-institute a clock. Of course this could be expedited by sending proxy picks to Steg or someone who picks right after you.

Yeah, wasn't to sure what time the night shift might start filing in. Next week, we're going to have to have lists from those who can't be around. It sucks, but projecting out two picks from wherever we are as they have to leave is not unreasonable imo. Hopefully we'll get a better result tomorrow and Friday so we can be deep enough in to make it that much less painful to go off a list. We'll get 'er, though

Just a heads-up here! Keith/The Juror contacted me this evening and told me that he will be available tonight, at least somewhat, so... if you guys can get the evening/night thing goin' on here tonight,... it might be a good thing.

Anyway, I must say this thing is crawling and you guys gotta' get through 22 rounds! Also, this is a league, not a mock. You really don't want a league draft lasting like two, two-plus, weeks... Can kind of make things weird.

Well, good luck, boyz!

No, It is much worse. FF values do not go down in a straight line - it is exponential. Case in point - just try to trade your second and third round picks to someone with a top 5 pick in a snake draft for his first and fourth roun picks. NEVER, EVER will it happen - but by the reasoning that devised this format, it SHOULD.

Ok, off my soapbox. The time to discuss this has passed and I am obviously alone with my reasoning.

So far, steal of the draft is Portis.

I agree with Jeremy, I would have taken Portis number 1 more than likely, only because I don't like RW, and I think LT2 will be so overused, he will run out of gas. Holmes and Faulk health are a concern, so I wuold have taken Portis. Nice pick at 5.

Before anybody jumps my shit for the Vick pick, here are my reasons:

This is a keeper league. Vick is arguably the most exciting QB out there.

He MAY play this season, more than likely after the Falcons bye in week 8, depending on his ligament x-ray.

He is young and will bounce back from the injury.

I am a big Va Tech fan and a fan of Vick (so is the little woman, so it made her happy!) ;)

Hopefully he picks soon. I am up twice in the next 5 picks and I am leaving work at 5:00 and going straight to my son's football scrimmage. I will not return home until about 8:30PM. I would love to make my next two picks before 5:00 so we can keep this thing moving.

Guys, if this is the case and you are sending proxy lists to me and want me to make the pick, PLEASE "log out" and view things as a "Guest", so I don't think you are here and going to make your own pick. When I left around three hours ago, I was worried that was going to happen, and it evidently did.

Also, the selection format:

5.06 - RB Bobby Humphrey - Broncos

PLEASE, follow it! There aren't many substantive ways to thank me for what I am doing. There is not one ad as such on this site. All I ask of you all is to be just a little meticulous so the thread looks professional for visitors looking in. Moreover, don't pigeon-hole me into looking like an anally-retentive asshole by purposefully not following the pattern. That's a real slap in the face. Anyway, thank you for your anticipated consideration. Guys, one more fairly IMPORTANT administrative announcement to make... and it's my fault that I gotta' make it! [smiley=doh.gif]

There's another mistake WE, yes, including me, have been making. It's actually my fault for giving the original example the wrong way. Tight Ends are NOT mandatory in this league; they are just considered "Receivers". The (much more apropos, though unusual anymore) GBRFL-style designation for this position is "RC". That's how it is ALL over the site,... so you's might as well start getting accustomed to it. When I just went ahead to post Jim's pick (of Peerless Price), it dawned on me. [smiley=doh.gif] So, I went ahead and fixed all the ones thus far. Again, do NOT use "WR" or "TE" for the position designation, USE "RC"! Thank you for your anticipated understanding and compliance! [smiley=bow.gif] I am so glad you guys are enjoying "the show"! :)

If it is after 11:30 and I did not pick, then do not bother hanging around if you do not see me logged on. If I am logged on that means I will make my pick befor I log off.

Damn, this bitch has stalled!

Guys, all I am concerned about is that the longer this goes, the more likely a big injury could occur, really throwing things out of whack. If so-and-so goes down with a terrible injury, then another so-and-so could become an inordinately awesome pick, given the round you all are in. I mean that's the (understood) deal you guys are playing under at this point, but, boy, would that be lame if that happened, that someone got like "Top-3-Round" value in Round 15, moreover, just because he happened to be up at that time. Philly - any chance we could work out a deal? I have Trent Green (5.04), Patrick Ramsey (7.10), and Drew Brees (8.03) - we could even out value by moving draft choices. IM me or email me at bgsgfan@yahoo.com.

Hey Jeremy... I'm not married to Plummer and would be willing to listen to offers. Right now I'd rather keep going with the draft and then think about swapping players after we're done - after all, I do need a #2 QB and he is it right now.

It's always nice to see your 7th round pick(Tom Brady) throw 3 TD's against the great eagles secondary. That makes his preseason totals 5 TD's and 0 INT's. Hope he carries this over into the regular season!

I was going to go Brady (or Pennington) as well... Both young solid QB's that will only get better over the years... damn it. I'm not as high on Johnson, but I'm hopeful that he will put up respectable "#2" QB numbers.

Don't get me wrong, I respect Johnson (that's why I picked him), but in this keeper league format, Brady/Pennington would have been my first choice. (I REALLY wanted Plummer as well... I might have to do something about that.

As I have mentioned numerous times already, I have two drafts tomorrow (Sunday). One is from 12:00 to 4:00. The second (which is a first year auction) is from 5:15 to ???? (my guess is 10:30). From 4:00 to 5:00 my daughter has a soccer game (soccer is after all a girls sport).

As you can see, I will not have access to a computer after about 11:45AM EST. Time permitting, I can log on at the persons house where the first draft is being held. If I am up I will make my pick then. I am not up until 9.07 (which is 12 pick away so it will probably not get to me anyway)

I just wanted to let everyone know so you all don't waste a sunday waiting for my pick.

OK, so we'll draft normally today, but we're all going to plan to be online (or near a phone - or sending proxy picks) during MNF tonight so we can knock out a bunch of rounds? We really need to try to finish this thing this week because it will get hairy with a holiday weekend coming up.

Since I'll be watching MNF and tying up the computer, my wife will probably be on the phone most of the time. If you can't get Steg or someone else, give me a try (609-914-0665).

Good catch. You are correct. We had it correct in the talks we had thru Instant Message, but he has a typo there and I did not catch it. It is the 12.02 and 13.03
for my 11.02 and 15.10. Sorry for the confusion guys.

Yeah, I read a little tidbit at KFFL that indicated that the Jaguars had offered Brunell to the Jets today. (This on the heels of Del Rio indicating that Brunell is the #1 in Jax yesterday.) Sounds like the Jags may be interested in getting Leftwich in there sooner than later.

Ravens may go with Boller sooner than later...

Duce won't be traded unless deal is off-the-charts AWESOME... i.e., Duce will likely remain an Eagle...

Jets like that third-string guy (won't say his name... make you guys do your homework a little) and are comfortable entering the season with Testaverde as their starter; however, even though they had no interest in Brunell, they did contact the Eagles with regards to the availability of A. J. Feeley; the Eagles responded with, "He ain't goin' nowhere. We like his future..."

No, it doesn't! It sends you to the GBRFL2 "Rosters" page and then you have to scroll down a bit.

CORRECTION (kind of)! I just clicked over and it gave me the GBRFL "Rosters" page as well. I must have uploaded the GBRFL "Rosters" page instead of the GBRFL2 "Rosters" page by accident. :-[ I don't know how I would have done that, though. Okay, I just added Jim's 9th Round pick, Doug Johnson, to his roster on the "official" GBRFL2 "Rosters" page. There was actually another mistake that I caught... :-[ Fellas, as that page will be you all's "official" rosters page on your GBRFL2 web site, PLEASE check it for accuracy. If there are any other errors, let me know a.s.a.p. and I will get on it. Also, if there are any people who think that they won't be online much during the day today, please send a proxy list to someone who will be online. Thanks!

I think we need to make a ruling on what we do if we do not finish drafting before the start of the season.

I am swamped with kids sports this weekend and next week is our financial close week so I know I will not be able to pick as quickly as I have been. I just do not see us finishing all the rounds in time.

Maybe we can all decide to have a starting lineup selected by the end of round 16 or 17 that way we will all have rosters we can start. I guess we would have to wait until the Monday night game is over to start back up again since it wouldn't be fair for the guys with Thursday night players.

Any thoughts???

I don't think we have to worry about not getting done before the regular season starts... we still have 9 days until the first game.

But I do think we need to get this done before Friday. Some of us are going away this weekend and others have plans that preclude internet-logging.

I think a lot of this can be resolved by sending someone a proxy list. I know its difficult, but right now most of us are drafting backups so it shouldn't be too hard to put together a couple rounds on a list.

I like Hilliard to have a real good season being the third (and sometimes fourth) option in the passing game. He sure looked good in the preseason game vs. the Jets!

I have to say this much regarding not finishing the draft within TWO WEEKS/by the start of the season... it does not give me a good feeling about the enthusiasm (even though it may exist for most) of the group as a whole AND, moreover, it puts the squeeze ON ME and you all because there are some other steps that need to be taken after you guys are done draftin'. If you think you are not going to be around for a bit, send me or each other lists for goodness sake, especially at this point, i.e. garbage-time. This league will not be run half-ass, so if you guys cannot make it through 22 rounds in TWO WEEKS,... Remember this is all just more work for me and I am only willing to be a slave for people who are going to at least put in an effort somewhat commensurately proximate to mine. In short, if you guys ain't done by Wednesday of next week, well,... I give up! :-[

Title: Re: GBRFL2 Draft Administration & Discussion Threa
Post by bgsgfan on Aug 27th, 2003, 6:38pm
I had something come up unexpectedly today, sorry for the 4 hour 15 minute delay. I sent 2 rounds worth of picks to steg as "just in case". Getting on garbage time here - I see no reason why we can't all send someone some sort of lists as "just in case".

As for finishing this up, I am almost positive we can get everything done except coaches by the end of this weekend.

If you aren't going to be available this weekend, take a few minutes to send a proxy, please.

I have heard a couple comments that seemed to indicate i have held this draft up. The most time I have been on the clock is 4 hours and 40 minutes (including day, night, weekdays, and weekends), and most of my picks have been made under one hour.

How about we make next year's first round incumbent upon the time it takes to make picks in the 18th-21st rounds? After the first round it can go according to the rules, but for the first round it is in inverse order of the time you are on the clock. If you have sent a proxy list (of which at least one player is available on your pick) to Steg before your pick (whether or not Steg posts the pick) your time is assumed to be zero minutes.

Title: Re: GBRFL2 Draft Administration & Discussion Threa
Post by FourTwoOh on Aug 27th, 2003, 6:49pm
Color me crazy, but I see no problem with the way it is going. We agreed at the beginning on no clock, no weekends required. I'm not sure what "other steps" Steg is referring to, and certainly don't wish to cause him any extra work, but don't we have til thursday afternoon to wrap everything up including the submision of line-ups? The only issue that may get lostin the huffle/pushed to the max would be week 1 free agency draft. As it looks likely we won't finish drafting until after the final pre-season game, I'd think free agent requests would be at a minimum. ???

Title: Re: GBRFL2 Draft Administration & Discussion Threa
Post by PrimeTime on Aug 27th, 2003, 7:00pm
I don't think it is any one person slowing down the draft. It is just a fact of life that everyone has different schedules and commitiments that make it difficult over an extended period of time to stay on-line constantly.

Here is one suggestion I can offer for next year: -- We should all agree on one or two specific blocks of time when we all agree to be on-line and devoting most (if not all) our attention to the draft. We will only have 9 rounds so we should be able to knock it off in two nights.

Title: Re: GBRFL2 Draft Administration & Discussion Threa
Post by PrimeTime on Aug 27th, 2003, 7:04pm
One suggestion I can offer for completing this draft is to create a list of the top 20 or 30 remaining players you want, in the order you want them in. That way when you log on you only need to go down the list to select your next pick.

I think most of us are doing that because when everyone is on line the picks fly pretty fast.

Enough on the pace of the draft...

I have had a great time with this draft [smiley=woohoo.gif]
and I'm sure we will have many seasons of enjoyment here. I like matching wits (although I don't have too many left :)) with a bunch of experts and watching how everyone's team ia coming together.

It looks like Jeremy's team is the one to beat. It also looks like whoever plays JimmyC's team week 5 catches a real break ;)

This is a scratch from the get-go and, no less, at this very moment, it is coming from a guy who, though he has been basically diligent throughout, has just eaten up the whole (middle of the) day. What if something similar just happens to happen to someone else during the 18th to 21st rounds, something unfortunate and unexpected, and they did not submit a proxy list thinking such was not going to happen. It's also not fair to force proxy lists on people at this point, no less with such a potentially HUGE penalty. It's like changing the rules as you go. In any event, this is not even an issue based on the structure and rules of the league. Next year and every year thereafter, you will only have a 9-round "re-stocking" draft as each team has 12 protection spots AND its going in reverse order of finish, most importantly the very first round, THE MOST CRUCIAL IN THIS TYPE OF SYSTEM, but ultimately every round, is an absolutely non-negotiable aspect of the rules; it's part of the essence of this kind of keeper league. The first round is absolutely critical to the bottom teams as well as LEAGUE BALANCE. This idea was not completely thought through. So,...

Yea, okay, Kirk, there's nothin' to do at all. I just wave my magic FF wand and there's a board, a site, organization, understanding of everything on everybody's part going into the season so it's all fair, etc., etc. I'm just lying. Might it be possible to assume that, hey, this guy who's set up all this nice stuff for free and who knows all the "behind the scenes" inner-workings, which I probably don't know, isn't just making bullshit up? Maybe you didn't mean it that way. But, that is the way it came off to me. Trust me, if we wrap this thing up next Thursday, the day the season kicks off, glitches and stressful bullshit on a night where we all, or at least I, would just like to kick back will be abound. They'll be dudes who don't get how/when to submit lineups, how to list free-agents, how to view lineups, etc.; they'll be last-minute trades, mistakes in lineup submissions and potentially all kinds of other headaches we can't even yet foresee. And, ya' know what, it will all be on my shoulders to get it straightened out, if for no other reason than my diligence (wanted or unwanted, that's the way I do things). Then, there's dealing with the spreadsheets, which Jeremy and I and anybody else who will be helping will have to hash out, and this is not to mention all the basic stuff on the site that still needs to be set up, like, uh, the whole site. Whatever, the point is really just a basic one... just because you know you can make it to work on time in 15 minutes doesn't mean you plan to leave only 15 minutes early. Also, your first sentence is a little tendentious. Though you guys agreed on no weekends and no [smiley=ontheclock.gif] , it was kind of under the "pretext" that you guys would be finished within 7 to 10 days (something I feared would be a stretch based on how things were being set up). I don't think anybody was even considering having this thing go through Labor Day Weekend when all those "agreements" were being made.

[smiley=bow.gif]

I made my comments immediately in a defensive state of mind... I had rushed in and gone to pick and was ashamed that I had held the draft up. We had been on a roll and gone through a whole round in an hour and then I held things up for over 4 hours. So, I am ashamed, and I check this thread and I see you getting upset with the pace of the draft... and I got defensive. I reviewed my timing and I had taken between 4 and 5 hours twice, and had been within an hour on almost all of my other picks. Soooo... I went from shame and embarrassment to being defensive and struck back without thinking things through. What I really meant to say was, I am sorry I ruined the roll we were on.

Guys, guys...relax. Try some decaf.

I have no worries that we can belt this thing out in the next few days. Let's all try to be a little more aware of our draft order. If you see it's getting late, or you have a meeting, or are leaving work to sit in traffic for an hour, send a few picks to Steg or whoever drafts right behind you, or someone you see on alot, that way we can get this draft finished!

Jer, speaking for myself, I am just making "general" statements. It is just that at this point, with Labor Day Weekend bearing down on us, we need to knock this thing out. BUT, the fact that we're not or haven't been or whatever the perception might be is definitely NOT all or even mostly on you. Didn't Jeff say he sent you a list Steg? The draft would go faster if you'd make his focking pick! ;D Unless his list was comprised or Streets, Longwell, Morris and Thrash...

Sorry, but I am ready with mine!

Thanks, Steg, for making my pick in as timely a manner as you could. I knew I couldn't be on consistently tonight, so I sent a list of 13 players to cover my next two picks (which was enough regardless of who was chosen). I know you don't have to make these proxy picks for us, but I'm glad that you have enough interest in this league to see it succeed.

As far as the draft taking too long, we're not pointing fingers at anyone. Things come up, but even when we could all be online Monday evening, things still didn't move very fast.

We need to have this draft done by Friday. People will be away this weekend and Steg needs time to set everything up, so it would be in everyone's best interest to have a proxy list available and ready to go (or at least phone instructions) whenever you are going to be away from your computer for any period of time. We're all drafting the dregs now, so it really doesn't matter too much if you get Dreg A or Dreg B.

Answer: Bad Backs ;D ;D

Philly:
Travis Henry
Kevan Barlow
Onterrio Smith
TJ Duckett
Moe Williams

PrimeTime:
LaDanian Tomlinson
Ahman Green
Curtis Martin
Troy Hambrick
Najeh Davenport

Let's see... Travis Henry is a stud - not a bad back. Everyone seems to think Kevan Barlow will be an excellent back once he is given the opportunity. TJ Duckett is another rising star in the league and should have better numbers than Warrick Dunn this year. Onterrio Smith will get plenty of opportunities this year on a team that led the league in rushing last year (and if Michael Bennett can't stay healthy, Onterrio may be a great long-term player). Finally, Moe Williams is a TD machine who will be starting the season as the #1 in Minnesota.

Now let's look at your team. LaDanian Tomlinson is arguably the best back in the league. Ahman Green has a lot of trouble staying healthy and will lose many carries this year. Curtis Martin -- also on his way out. LaMont Jordan will steal many of his carries this year, including a lot of the goal line carries. Troy Hambrick? Is there any reason to think he will succeed when he already is in his coach's doghouse? Najeh Davenport was an excellent pick where you got him and is a solid keeper.

I'm not sure that you have any real edge on me with your RBs. You might be slightly better in the short-term, but you have some injury prone players and my roster is better for the long haul.

Regarding long-term, I wonder why the Bills drafted Willis McGahee? Could it be they do not like Henry's slippery hands?

What happens when Bennett comes back? How do the Vikes split up the carries among Bennett, Smith, Williams, Chapman?

Vick + Dunn + Duckett = A lot of rushing yards. How will it be split up?

I think Henry will be quite motivated to show that he is not a fumbler this season. And Henry is good enough a back that he won't be sitting on the bench if he's healthy.

Quote:

If Bennett comes back... Chapman is hurt too. So the way I see it is split carries between Smith and Williams right now (although Culpepper will certainly take some of those yards too).

The way I see it... Johnson + Dunn + Duckett. I imagine you can split the yards pretty evenly between Dunn and Duckett, but give the TD edge to Duckett.

I feel pretty good about my roster. I've made a couple mistakes in the draft, but I really like my team's youth and potential.

I agree! You probably have the best mix of current and future talent on your team.

I am building more for the here and now and I'll have to address the future in, well, the future.

I also like Jeremy's team, especially if Ramsey has a good year.

I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out how Jeremy has the strongest team? ??? Just looking at the teams with no bias.........I can't see a team stronger than mine. My team is solid across the board. Two great Fantasy QB's(Maddox and Brady)and a solid keeper with Harrington. Two top 15 RB's with Deuce and Dillion, plus a 15-20 carry starting RB in Emmitt and possible another starter with Peterson. I beleive Toefield will get some goaline carries because he is bigger than Taylor just as Mack did last year. Then possibly my strongest position RC with 3 star receivers Burress, Holt, and Toomer to go along with some decent #2's Gardner and Wayne. Finally, two solid D's and two solid kickers. Just my opinion of course, but there will be good teams across the league. I do think Jeremy has a lot of talent and the most depth at Running Back.

:) Just to let my new fellow competitors know.........I wasnt' really trying to pat myself on the back ;) because in reality I didn't really have a set stradegy in mind when we started this draft, these drafts are always harder because the knowledge of the team owners is way above the calibur of average fans. So in some ways I just reacted to what the other owners did and what players were available when it was my turn to draft. I was pleasantly surprised when I took a moment to look at my team on the roster page, I have a lot of talent and a lot of young players. I think I have layed down a very solid foundation for the future. I am well aware that in a 10 team league, we all will have good teams. It will take good depth and the lack of injuries to win it all! So good luck all! ;D

Guys,
Lets face it. We are not going to get this draft completed by Friday. As was mentioned previously, Steg needs sufficient time to set everything up and also answer any questions. Since he was nice enough to get this all rolling for us, I think we owe him the decency of giving him enough time to set everything up in the proper fashion. (I also think we owed him the decency of finishing the draft quicker, but that is water under the bridge now)

Here is my proposal:

1) We all commit to getting through round 19 by the end of the day Friday Aug 28th. Everyone should make sure they have a complete starting roster for week one.

2) After round 19, we skip ahead to the coaches round and also complete that by Friday evening. We can all submit a list that ranks the coaches 1 to 10 and Steg (or I will volunteer to do this also) can collect them all and just assign them based on where they pick in the coaches round.

3) After the week one games we finish rounds 20 to 22

This will allow plenty of time to get ready for the season without a frantic rushing around at the last minute. The last three picks are most likely guys you don’t plan on starting week one anyway. While this is not a perfect scenario, I think it is fair to all parties involved.

I actually was planning on starting a kicker in week one...

But, I think that with some effort and commitment of people here, we can finish this thing by tomorrow. We just need the people who are not on here ALL the time to submit a proxy list (and a deep one at that) to keep this thing moving. I know I will be out of the office at a meeting this afternoon and won't be able to log in, but I'll have a long proxy list ready.

Fellas,

As long as we have this finished up by Tuesday night, we/I should be just fine. It would have been optimal to finish it as early as humanly possible, but truth be said finishing it on Tuesday is definitely workable. Finishing it on Thursday would have been potentially hellish for me,... for everyone. That's why I blew a bit of a gasket when such was casually intimated. But, if you guys are done by Tuesday night, then all is basically good. I would definitely try to finish rather than cut it short. The complications of forcing it that way may make for more headaches than just finishing it late, unless late ends up meaning Thursday (or even late Wednesday night), in which case we may have to defer to a plan like Gene's. ALL of THIS having been said, can jimmyc get us some proxy lists if he thinks he is not going to be around much? Hell, at this point, I can take Jeff and Keith through the rest of the draft as I have complete lists through Round 21 for both of them. Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know the big picture here from my end/perspective!

Later,
Steg

Ray and I take turns logging on at work, (usually we alternate every 1/2 hour because our company does monitor internet usage) and I have a cable modem at home so I am basically up to date at all times except for my 1 hour commute and Tues and Thursday evenings when I go to my son's football practice directly from work. On those nights I am home by 8:30 and ready to go.

Ray and I also give each other picks so there should be no problem with the two of us finishing this thing up.

Like Steg said, if you know you will not be available basically all day and night long then please give a proxy list to someone.

Guys, Ray and I take turns checking the site during the day. Our company monitors internet usage so we can't stay logged in all the time. We check either every hour, half hour or fifteen minutes depending on the speed of the picks.

We give each other the next pick if one of us has to go to a meeting. I wouldn't worry about us slowing down the draft during the day.

Honestly, "Points Differential" is a bit of an intimidating, over-inflated, overstated term. Here how it simply works... Your coach's team wins 21 to 13, your coach is +8; my coach loses 28 to 24, my coach is -4. If we were playing each other and in the VERY unlikely event that it came down to a tie-breaker, which happens on average less than once per season, you would win because your coach would have beaten my coach +8 to -4. Let's say my coach won 28 to 24. You would still win +8 to +4. Got it! It's pretty simple, actually, and VERY rare, in any case. "Points Differential" in the "Standings" works similarly. You'll see how it all works in due time, i.e. when necessary.

A couple other (inane) notes regarding the coach, you can pick up an "extra" coach without dropping your "main" coach during your "main" coach's bye-week. If you forget to drop your "extra" coach the following week, it will be done automatically. Of course, you can drop and pick up coaches however you want, just like players, as long as you indicate it on your "lineup submission form". If you do not request an "extra" coach during your "main" coach's bye-week, his "Points Differential" for the week would be -(infinity), indicated on the spreadsheet as -99. So, there ya's have it! Thanks, Steg, for making those picks for me... Sorry I screwed up Jeff Reed's name. You'd think I would know that one. Anyway, I was surprised that I even got him with Jeremy picking. I know Reed isn't on too many people's radar, but Jeremy was well aware of his 3 FG-a-game rate when he played last year.

I knew we'd be able to finish this thing before the weekend - it's all about the proxy list! ;D

He would have been gone at 20.02 if he was available. I have him rated higher than Wilkins, but I am wary of my Steelers rankings. I remembered you talking about him in the CBFL draft, so I figured you would grab him.

You should actually be working out a trade with Philly including Jeff Wilkins.

Maybe. If it includes Plummer. Yeah, Wilkins for Plummer. ;D

Actually, I am very happy with my team right now.

Ditto that for me... remember, it's Vince Lombardi, then Tom Landry, then Joe Gibbs, and then either Don Shula or George Halas.

Yes, I did, 420, Philly. But, I gotta' hit the hay here early tonight, as well. Probably by midnight, so... Whatever, we are ahead of the game at this point! GREAT JOB, guys, and THANKS! [smiley=bow.gif]

Also, with regards to picking head coaches, here is the format:

22.01 - HC Jack Ass - Bungholios

Nice choice with Mr. Ass of the Bungholios with the first pick in the coaches round. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I heard the team is "loaded" at Tight End and Wide Receiver.

I just added team names to the "Rosters" page and saw that a couple of you still have not submitted team names. I gave those teams "Steggie-special" team names (actually, one of them is from my bud Dr. Danny Feder, 3-time Champ of the GBRFL,... Jer), but you, of course, are welcome to submit your own.

Interesting that after 2 weeks we would have the only undefeated teams (if I just did the scoring right). We won't meet up until week 4, hoping that we are both undefeated after next week and can have a nice showdown.
