Title: Re: Protection Lists 2004 Post by Chumpzilla on Aug 11th, 2004, 7:16pm Here's a stupid question and one I should have asked BEFORE I made my last deal. Even though Ricky Williams retired, he is still protectable, correct? I reviewed the rules but didn't see anything. Any insight is greatly appreciated! |

Yes, Ricky can be protected. You could draft Barry Sanders and protect him if you wanted to. He has not filed his retirement papers yet. |

Not that that fact matters. Just wanted to clarify that to head off any confusion at the pass. The "threshold" of availability (would be the same as it is in the NFL) is having been "exposed" to the NFL draft. |

Title: Re: Protection Lists 2004 Post by bgsgfan on Aug 12th, 2004, 10:57pm Just in case I am not able to make it in tomorrow night, here is my updated list. I'm not sure if my trade with Philly will go through before this is due, so my "swing" player will be Garrison Hearst. Quarterbacks: Trent Green Jake Plummer Jake Delhomme Patrick Ramsey Running Backs: Michael Bennett William Green Travis Minor Garrison Hearst (if I get Philly's protection spot) Receivers: Hines Ward Laveranues Coles Steve Smith Chris Chambers Defense/ST: Dallas Cowboys |

Title: Re: Protection Lists 2004 Post by bgsgfan on Aug 13th, 2004, 5:34pm This should be it. ::) It is still pending the Philly trade. I don't know what the ruling on that will be because he hasn't verified the trade (although it was a done deal per IM's). ?.?.? Jeff is out of town until Monday. If it is ruled that the trade isn't legit, Hearst is the player I won't keep. Title: Re: Protection Lists 2004 Post by StegRock on Aug 13th, 2004, 5:40pm No such trade will be approved unless it is somehow confirmed (by Jeff) by your cut deadline, tonight at 11:59:59 p.m.!!! Gotta play it to the "letter of the law". Sorry, bro. :-/ I do have his cell phone number, so I'll see what I can do to possibly help you out, BUT don't hold me to it! |

Title: Re: Protection Lists 2004 Post by StegRock on Aug 14th, 2004, 12:30am Well, that's that for that! Your protection lists are now (well, to be exact, as of 11:59 p.m.) locked in. I will NOT accept any more submissions of protection lists. Expect the "Rosters" page at the league site to be updated accordingly sometime tomorrow. [smiley=builder.gif] |

Holy crap! This 15-minute job is turning into a two-hour labor. ::) Jim, you traded a protection spot to Ray yesterday, bringing you down to 10. However, you still have 11 players listed here. As such, at this point you don't get to choose the player to cut. According to (a variation, as I have never dealt with something exactly like this, of) league precedent, the player you will lose from your list above is WR Donte Stallworth as a) you did not trade for him during the '04 offseason, b) he is not even listed in your Week 17 lineup from last year (which is what I would go by (along with a consideration of offseason trades) if someone failed to submit a protection list), and c) he is not a de facto starter for you, i.e., you have three other receivers listed. I am sorry if this is not what you would have preferred done. Know, though, that it is not a position I would have preferred to have been put in, either. I am just cleaning it up. :-/ |

Title: Re: Protection Lists 2004 Post by BarnabyWilde on Aug 14th, 2004, 3:07pm In my rush to get my trade complete and as I headed out the door to the A's game, I failed to drop Brandon Lloyd. Can I put this up to a vote to see if the other 9 guys will allow me to drop Lloyd instead of Stallworth? I think that is more fair than you just chooing for me... |

And,... Did you happen to catch Carl Eller's enshrinement speech? Quote:
Actually, it's really not if you really think through the ramifications of such precedent. The democratic process is not, contrary to popular belief, the best answer all the time (actually it isn't a lot of the time as long as you are dealing with fair-minded people with conviction (which I believe I am)). Not to mention, I'm a totally objective party using a totally objective process and, in any event, it's what we do in the GBRFL (had to do once in our history and in that instance the guy lost Trent Green of the Chiefs in favor of whatever his defense was at the time... :o I stuck to my guns then for the better of the league and I would like to now, and, ultimately, that guy understood my position and that he was at fault), which is what you guys are supposed to be following here. That said, I really don't care what you guys do. Run it however you want for all I care, like the other leagues you are in. However, know that I think the rule (I used) sets much better precedent, which, moreover, will proactively deter such occurrences like this in the future, which, by the way, make more work for me, you know, the guy providing this freebie. I would like to have rules/precedent in place that proactively avoids this time-wasting sticky stuff, :P which does not "encourage" my effort here. That's the idea behind what we do in the GBRFL. It's very cut and dry and clear. The more work this league becomes for me, the less I'm going to want to do it. So, in that vain, since you state what you'd like, I'd like to state that what I'd like is for you to simply go, " [smiley=doh.gif] , my bad, no excuses... I'd like to get more of a feel for the GBRFL system by following things to a tee and, as such, I accept the relatively minor and objectively-based penalty." But, again, whatever... |

Title: Re: Protection Lists 2004 Post by BarnabyWilde on Aug 14th, 2004, 3:32pm That's fine then. Don't want to create any bad vibes. Stallworth it is... |

Title: Re: Protection Lists 2004 Post by StegRock on Aug 14th, 2004, 3:38pm Thank you, Jim! [smiley=bow.gif] It just puts this (expeditiously) behind us (so there is no more work or wasted time attached to it). ... By the way, though, I think Brandon Lloyd is the more intriguing if not outright better keep, anyway. I, for one, would actually keep him over Stallworth in a heartbeat. [smiley=yes.gif] But, that's just me. [smiley=awwgee.gif] |

Title: Re: Protection Lists 2004 Post by StegRock on Aug 14th, 2004, 3:44pm By the way, guys, the "Rosters" and "Transactions" pages at the league site have been brought up to date, indicating any late trades as well as protections! |

I think that is because you put through the trade with Jeff that he never confirmed. I think. I doublechecked through the transactions page and that is the only transaction involving me and a protection spot. Maybe I am not seeing something. Along the same lines, I believe Jeff still has 12 spots. It would be a lot easier to just put through the trade, however I believe it would totally contradict everything you just went over with Jim. Sorry, but it looks like you have a bit more work. |

Title: Re: Protection Lists 2004 Post by StegRock on Aug 14th, 2004, 9:08pm No, that trade can go through. Jeff obviously agreed to it "de facto" by only submitting 11 protections. As I recall, I think he might have mentioned it to me by e-mail or phone as well, actually. That's why I posted it on the "Transactions" page. It's good to go. But, a note to both parties and ALL GBRFL2ers,... PLEASE, let's try to keep it simple next time and avoid such "situations", if for no other reason than consideration for me and the potential "sticky" predicament it puts me in (which really saps my energy regarding this). If, here at crunch time, you know you are not going to be around to "actually" confirm a trade or if you know the dude whose trade you are considering is not going to be around to confirm it, just let it go and don't do it! Thank you for your anticipated understanding and cooperation in the future. [smiley=bow.gif] |

Title: Re: Protection Lists 2004 Post by Philly on Aug 14th, 2004, 11:26pm I'm coming in a day late here, apparently. I only listed 11 protected players (prior to the deadline) because I made the deal with Jeremy prior to the deadline. I wanted to be sure I had my prot. list in before I left because I knew that internet access would be sporadic at best for me. Sorry for any confusion this caused. PS - My cell phone is turned off because I am out of the country (Canada) and don't have an international plan. |
