Week nights (after 6PM Central) and weekends are great for me. Any date/time will be fine as long as I know ahead of time.

I am currently off Sat-Mon and work 0800-1800 Tues-Fri MST. Anytime while not at work is doable for me.

Weekends and nights are much better for me as well.  My schedule is relatively flexible, just as long as I know about 2 weeks in advance.

Do we want to try to start it Sunday, August 14th, at 9:00 PM Eastern time?  If we could get everyone online for about 3 hours we could knock most of it out quickly and then finish whatever is left over the following week.

What about our protection lists? I think they should be due August 1st if we are going to draft on the 14th.

RE:  Kirk/FourTwoOh & replacing him :-/ ... :'(

Guys,

Consult the message I just put up here:

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=01;action=display;num=1121648358.

We'll get this 10th spot filled with no problem, I am sure.  Since this is a special "invitation (from Steg)-only" league, let me have first whack at this.  Even though we ended up having to recruit a few guys two years ago, the original idea behind this league was for it to primarily act as a "thank you" from me to those of you who helped me get this place off the ground and secondarily for some personal acquaintances and friends of mine.  I have a few dudes who fall into one or both of those categories that I want to give a shot to join first.  I've already begun contacting dudes.

I see you guys are looking at a mid-August draft date.  I leave for Hawaii on August 10th.  If I don't have anybody by August 9th, I'll let you guys know quickly first and (prepare to) cast a wide net.  I am VERY confident that we'll have no problem finding one dude for the GBRFL2.

Over and Out,
Steg

Yas know...  There was a FourTwoOh sighting on "the Gridiron" earlier tonight.  I don't know what's up with him. [smiley=stilldunno.gif] I'd still give him dibs here if he just speaks up.  He's got to do so soon, REAL soon, though.

Speaking from a bit too much experience, its embarrassing to come back when you feel like you have been away for too long.

I hope that isn't the case, and if so maybe he can feel better knowing that he has a LONG way to go to be as bad as I have over the years.

Title: Re: 2005 GBRFL2 Draft Planning
Post by StegRock on Aug 6th, 2005, 3:27pm
Okay, I may have a great guy to bring in to take FourTwoOh's team over, but he needs to know what you guys are looking at as far as dates for the draft.  I am assuming, as has been discussed, you guys plan to, as best as possible, meet on-line and hammer it out in one shot or at least over a weekend or something like that.  I would advise making a Friday evening start time, in the hopes of having it done that night, but with the fall-back plan of, no matter what, getting it done by Sunday night.  And, as far as administration goes, begin ANY time.  Don't worry about working around me and my schedule, i.e. my move to Hawaii this week.  If you all can get this thing going THIS FRIDAY, August 12th, GO FOR IT!  If you then make the cut date this Tuesday, I can get them posted on the "Rosters" page during all the internet time I'll have in airport terminals during our roundabout trip to Hawaii on Wednesday.

SO, LET'S GET TO DISCUSSIN'...

Title: Re: 2005 GBRFL2 Draft Planning

This Friday evening will work for me - already kind of planned on the 14th as well.

I need at least a week to plan for most dates, but I can flex my schedule if I know a week in advance.

Along with the draft date, protection lists due by when?

I would like to suggest 3 days (72 hours) before the start of the draft.

Beeeg, as per my message above, from the administrative angle, it would be great if you guys could get your cuts in by 11:59 on Tuesday, so you'll have an updated "Rosters" page at the league site to consult on Thursday.

Sigh...

This Friday does not work at all for me. I do not get off work until 8pm. Then, it takes me 10-15 minutes to get home, depending on traffic.

Saturday and Sunday, however, I am off of work, therefore I can draft whenever on those particular days.

This is what I thought we were planning for, since no one had objected to it.  But, in any event, I'll try to make time whenever.  I have plans Friday night, but I'll try to get a proxy list in (so much for trades).  I also have plans for most of the day Saturday the 13th and then I start a new job on the 15th (so I probably won't be online at all and will not have much accessibility by phone initially).  I'll try to be accomodating though.

Title: Re: 2005 GBRFL2 Draft Planning
Post by bgsgfan on Aug 7th, 2005, 2:00pm
More detailed thoughts/proposals:

If we can get everyone in here on the 14th I believe that is the best option.  Philly's post has been up for over half a month and no objections.  I would rather try to get it done at one shot rather than start earlier - having everyone together online is much more fun (and thats the bottom line right?, having fun?).  If we agree to start it on Friday (slow stye), and then finish it on Sunday, I will be OK with that too. And I will be OK with just starting on the 14th and going through as much as possible and finishing it later.

So.... what I think is best is for us all to be here on the 14th and get it done... if it doesn't get finished we can have a contingency plan where we finish it with a slow draft.

We need to be prepared for unfortunate setbacks such as someone (or their proxy) not showing up.  What do we do if everyone but one of us makes it?

I am sending 2 phone #s to 2 other members (Jim and Philly).  I think that anyone who does not take at least that step should get skipped when their pick comes up if they exceed 3 minutes in posting. I know the phone #s are on the site, but that info could be old and I am always losing that password.

I also think someone should be allowed to make commissioner-type decisions (especially for when Steggie is not present).  Jamie stepped up with the scoring and Philly has been keeping track of off-season activity, so I believe it should be one or both of them.  The point is we need someone with some authority if/when something pops up.

Its disappointing that the last 12 posts have been made by 4 individuals - one of them not even in the league.  We also still don't have all members checking into this post (if I counted right 2 others outside 420 are missing).

[smiley=doh.gif]

Sorry Jamie. And Jim.  I knew that. I am editing post.

The main big point is that we should be prepared, and smaller point is that I think somebody should have authority over draft, and that that someone should be an active member - kind of a reward.  If we aren't prepared we deserve a repeat (or worse) of last year.

well, AFAIK, I'm the new guy.......HI NEW GUY.....

I got an invite from Steg this morning and responded with a hearty "hellya", but I haven't heard back.   If he's invited multiples and got multiple yesses, then I'm fine there too I guess.

Just my kibitz on the draft, if I'm the guy....

I am traveling Friday afternoon and Sunday evening.   Neither works for me....sorry!

exact times... I travel from 5:30 AM to about 7 PM CST on Friday, Aug 12th.    and I travel from 2PM to 2AM CST Sunday evening.

One caveat, my layover on Sunday is huge (almost 4 hours), so I could conduct the draft from the airport if needed, and would be totally willing to do that.    My availability in such a case would be roughly 630 PM CST to 8:45 PM CST.

Again, hope I'm in.   Someone let me know!

In my opinion, we need to pick a date and time when everyone can be there for three hours.  If we are missing just one, or one person only checks in periodically, then it is a real pain.

Like all of you, I am very busy and it is best for me to just block out a time and bang it out.  I am very flexible for most evenings as long as I get a few days notice.

I agree.  I really think if we can lock in 3 hours one evening it will work best.  I had hoped that Sunday evening worked best for everyone.  What about Monday (8/15) night during the MNF game?

I just copied this whole post from The Bleachers:

Quote:
Aloha, everybody!!!  I'm just checking in quickly (unfortunately)...  Gino and I are KNEE-DEEP in dealing with finding a place to live.  But, everything is going well on that front, ultimately.  However, as far as my getting over here..., well,... it's going to be somewhere between VERY spotty and NOT AT ALL for the next week or so.  Our hotel isn't "wi-fied"; I don't have time in the immediacy to set up my U.H. account and the library is only open until 9 p.m. until the semester commences.  There is one last-ditch thing I am going to try at the hotel tonight, but I am not hopeful.  So, anything I am needed for is either going to have to be put on the back-burner for about a week or dealt with independently (but, whatever it is, please do it in the high-quality manner in which we expect it to be done on "the Gridiron").  Lastly, if someone(s) could link to this message in other areas of the site where it is particularly needed (maybe like on the GBRFL2 board and on the "Huddle" thread "between the 20's"), I'd REALLY appreciate it.  I gotta run (but I'll get a quick pick up)...  Mahalo!

1. I think this means if we are to do this thing Sunday we definitely need someone to take charge.  I have expressed my thoughts on that already.

2. That some should use a dice roll or a hat or something and determine draft order.

If you guys want someone to help out with the draft order, I would be happy to help.  Just let me know.  Since I am in the GBRFL, I am familiar with all the rules.  In addition, I have no vested interest in the league.  Just let me know and I can draw the draft order today.

1st Fat Chick Thrillers
2nd Fighting Chiapets
3rd Mile High Madness
4th UFFOs
5th Hudson Hawks
6th FANnie JAMmers
7th Killer Eggplants
8th Spudville Mashers
9th Tai-ma Terror

Jeremy got the deal of the lottery.  Only one ticket yet he managed to get the second pick.  And just like in the GBRFL, the person with the most tickets(Jeff) gets the third pick.

HC.09      Ray
HC.10      Gene

Updated to fix round 9.  Capt and Gene lose their 9th rounders because their rosters will be full.  Ray needs 2 extra draft picks so he moves into their spots.

This may be a dumb question, but the draft link will be here under the message board site?

Jeremy got the deal of the lottery.  Only one ticket yet he managed to get the second pick.  And just like in the GBRFL, the person with the most tickets(Jeff) gets the third pick.

Well....if you all need anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me.  My cell is listed above.  And of course, I will be looking in.

Thanks,

DD

Th 9th round is incorrect.  There are two people who can't pick in the 9th because they will have their rosters filled by (at least) the 8th.  I definitely have two extra picks in the ninth.  BW confirmed my understanding in the thread located at:

Right you are... CaptainPurple and PrimeTime each have 10 draft selections, so they forfeit their 9th rounders and (since you, Chumpzilla, only have 7 picks, gain theirs).  I'll go back and update the draft order.
