Hey Jeff, when you have a chance can you post the 2007 draft picks for each of the teams after last years trades? I know you keep track, so I figured it would be less work to just have you post what you think is right and let the owners correct it if there is a problem! Thanks Tony

Ken noticed a mistake in Ray's list of draft picks. I corrected it above.

OK... now that we have our keepers, and the draft picks are all assigned correctly, we need to figure out when we'll conduct the draft lottery.

I know the GBRFL does the lottery the day of their live draft. In the past, the deuce league has done it a bit earlier than the mother league.

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas regarding this?

I already took care of it.  The order is as follows:

1) Fat Chick Thrillers
2) Hudson Hawks
3) Telegoals
4) Amish
5) Dog of War

OK... I don't know if anyone has checked out the draft order thread over on the GBRFL board, but they're talking about using the random number function in Excel to determine the draft. I was having trouble understanding the methodology, so I pulled out Excel to try it myself to see how it works.

After sorting the numbers from high to low, our draft order would be:

1 Gene
2 Keith
3 Todd
4 Jim
5 Jeff

If we sorted them low to high, the draft order would be:

1 Keith
2 Todd
3 Jeff
4 Jim
5 Gene

Either way, Jim gets screwed once again! LOL... I think there is some sort of higher power at work here Jim!

?.?.?  I thought the random number function generates the numbers differently each time you execute the "process" (no ascending or descending)?  Therefore being random?

Yes, it does. What I did was type Jim's name into the first 5 cells in Column A, Keith's in the next 4, and so forth until Gene had the final cell. Then in Column B I entered =RAND() in the cells next to the names. Then I copied those cells and used Paste Values to maintain the numbers in Column C. I then deleted Column B and sorted Ascending by the new Column B. (Just for kicks, I sorted Descending too.)

Either way, Jim didn't get the top pick (although he didn't fall to the bottom of the lottery this time).

Yes, the definition of random should indicate there is no effect when sorting.    If you run this process, do you get the same results every time?   Not very random.

If you just try to sort the =RAND() values, you'll never get them in order because it produces a new random number every time the cell is "touched." So I ran it one time and then copied the results and used Paste Values (to keep the number and not insert the formula) into the adjacent column.

I'm sure if I ran it again, I'd get quite different results.
