When will we kick this off? Last year, I believe it was August 23rd or 24th. I'm good any evenings in mid to late August or beyond.

I have a live draft on 8/4, so that's out. I'm also booked 8/11.

I'll be away on business from 8/20-8/31. If it's not a day I'm traveling, then I should be good to go any of those evenings from my hotel room.

I agree, let's just set a date and go for it.  My problem last year... was the ready...go...the set part got left out and I was on business in the Department of Corrections.  Meaning I had no access to phones or internet...I'll make better arrangements this year if I go underground prior to a date being set.

That said, I know that Steg is still doing a little recruiting to get the prescibed number of participants.

I am not good until the week end of August 18th.

I have finally decided that I will come back to the GBRFL2!

I cut out two of my other leagues and I am now down to 3.

Hopefully work will slow down after we file our first 10-Q on August.

I know a few of you sent me trade proposals and I told you I would not trade until I knew for sure if I was coming back.

Now I am open for business!  As I recall, my team was not very good so Imay need to rebuild this year.  Everyone will be available.

If you go to the link above and then set the calender to August and click the month tab, It should bring up the draft conflicts. Purhaps Jeff knows his flight schedule a little more clearly. 19th, 24th and 25th look good depending on Jeff. Anyone else need to cloud the water? Lets get this date worked out so I can get it in my calender before it changes again.

If we can't set a date we could always go the way the CBFL went...spanning it out over a few days. I prefer to sit down and do it over one evening though. It does not take me more than 1 or 2 minutes ever to make a pick.

I got to the page, but the month of August is completely empty...?

Anyway, I'm driving, not flying. The 19th is the Sunday night before I leave for 2 weeks, so it won't work for me. I'm OK the 24th in the evening or the 25th (any time really).

Why dont we start Friday Aug 24th in the evening, go until midnite, then finish the next morning. That way maybe it wont take up all of Saturday like last year. Those two days seem to be the days nobody complained about.

I'm free on the 24th and on the 25th I have a baseball game at 11:20am, and then free till about 6:00pm, which should be plenty of time!

I think the 24th works for me.  It's possible I could be traveling that friday though, my schedule is still up in the air fo that day.  Saturday's are better for me.

Those dates are good for me.  Pretty much anything after Aug 16th is good for me.  

I do have my "home" league draft on Sunday Aug 19th at 4PM so that evening is out for me.

Other than that I am good to go and I can work around everyone's conflicts.

Any reason we're trying to find a Saturday?   I find it a lot easier to do it midweek when we're talking an online draft.   Working from the hotel room is a lot easier than trying to justify (to the family ) a saturday night down in the office when I'm gone all week.

Just a thought.  Anyone prefere a T, W or Th draft night?

I much prefer a weeknight than a Saturday/Sunday.  I have a draft on 8/26 as well.

Last year we did it on a Thursday (8/24). We were scheduled to start at 7:00 PM Eastern. Some picks were made earlier than that since we knew the draft order. But the whole thing wrapped up shortly after midnight. I'm not sure why you thought it took an entire weekend day to do... maybe that was one of your other leagues...?

We just need to hear from Ray as he hasn't chimed in yet. Also, Rob might be traveling (Rob, when will you know?). Rob has had flights for the past two drafts and still managed to get his picks handled, so he should be OK.


Should we post keepers by 11:59 PM EST on August 20th and then determine the draft order on the 21st sometime?

I will double and triple check with Ray on his availablity on the 24th.  I am pretty sure he will be ok since he transferred to our Corporate Headquarters he only needs to work 4 or 5 hours a day.

Plus he doesn't have a pick unitl round 5.  Hell, Jim could draft for Ray and he would still be the favorite.  :o ::) ;D

I have a suggestion/question. I was thinking that since everybody has submitted their rosters, couldn't we go ahead and do the lottery picks and start drafting? We could do it casually like the CBFL did and have all or most of it done before draft day. Just an idea. I know that many people probably want to wait and see what happens next week before finalizing their thoughts, but I don't personally think it's needed. Any thoughts?

It's a good thought, Ken, but I'm not sure how it's going to play out. Some teams may make a few picks and then, invariably, we'll run into an owner who's not able to get to the internet for a period of time (vacations, work, etc.). Then a player who is already drafted (e.g., Brady Quinn) has a career-ending injury and that owner got screwed unnecessarily. I mean, something like that is a risk at any time, but spreading out the drafting really makes it more likely and decreases the "fairness" aspect of the draft.

I agree with waiting.   I only say so because I have  4 year curse running on my 1st WR taken.  If we spread the draft out...that's likely to spread like a festering sore to the rest of my team!    :D

I'm fine with anything after Wednesday the 15th.  But if the draft is going to get to me quickly on a CBFL type message board for actual drafting, I would like to know that the day before.  (It's not that many rounds, but I want to plan ahead and be there.)  I also agree with the idea that a reasonably close time frame for the actual draft, not counting the lottery, sounds more fair.

But I'm good with it either as a lottery and then drafting immediately, or as a lottery and then a draft later all at once.

That's cool by me. I'd like a little lead time so I can update the draft board and post it well in advance of the draft so any errors can be caught. I'm happy to have the lottery done any time this week even, so I can post the draft order before I leave for Canada on Sunday morning.

I'm more than happy to be the one who maintains the draft list, updated with each trade, but again, I do need a little lead time so I can get the draft order posted (with enough time for the owners to QC their picks). I'm meeting with a client all of next week (except Friday) and my internet access will be sporadic.

I think,  [smiley=uh.gif]unless I missed something, that the Mother league drafts on the 19th and the Duece drafts on the 24th. What is happening on the 19th over here in the Minor leagues is the Dueces draft lottery. I thought though, and I could be wrong again[smiley=footinmouth.gif], that the mother league reps conducted our draft lottery the day of the Mother league draft. I didn't think it was one of our members that conducted that lottery selection. Dont get me wrong. Its not that I dont trust anyone. [smiley=flagged.gif] Its just the way I thought it was done.  [smiley=shrug.gif] In fact, I think [smiley=palmtree.gif] The steg-mister did it for us last year.

The proposition was to have the draft lottery take place on the 19th (and it would be very cool to do it as part of the GBRFL festivities).

Each year Steg pulls the draft order for us (although DirkDiggler handled it one year).

So, could there be a double draft lottery happening at the GBRFL Draft Headquarters? That sounds like a good idea.

[smiley=doh.gif] To be honest, (good news) yesterday was my first day at a new (interim) job.  But, I was CASHED when I finally got back over here late last night, and I obviously wasn't reading and processing stuff carefully and patiently. :-/

In New York at the real draft, they had a band with a lounge singer and strippers singing back up. Sorry Callie, but yea....Singing Strippers. I mean its not every year a guy gets the first pick in the draft. Ask Jim, He'll tell yea! So I guess what I'm saying is.....

I'm working on it. There are things to consider here. I mean you have P.E.T.E.R.M.A.N from the Viqueens who is the stud of the draft. He doesnt catch the ball well though. On the other hand you have L.Y.N.C.H. Great back not sharing time as Peterson does with Taylor, but he has LOSERMAN throwing it to him. Can you say SUCK?

Can I have a few days to figure this out? It is a big decision, You know!

Lady and Gentlemen,
I will be on line for most of the day, if the draft picks up, otherwise I will be there at 7pm, but I have to bolt for a playoff softball game (8pm).  With this Seattle like weather we had in Jersey this week, the games that were originally scheduled for Mon/Wed are now today/Monday.
I do have a Blackberry and if I could trouble someone to e-mail me/call me, I could make a pick that way.  My e-mail address is kcarroll@statestreet.com the number is 609-548-3884.  I may also e-mail a list later.

I am leaving work at 4:30PM.  I have a one hour commute.  If my pick comes up by 4:30 I will make it. Otherwise I will pick when I get home around 5:30.

We haven't had to skip anyone before.  We may get delayed here or there for 10-20 mins, but we usually just wait...right?   I think skipping a pick is rough, at least prior to the last couple rounds

Right now the only person who has indicated they won't be around is Keith, but we can email/call him and get his pick.

Anyone else... I say give them 15 minutes max and then proceed with the draft. Thoughts?

Just to avoid any disagreements after the draft, if someone misses a pick, can they enter it whenever they can after that?
