Hola--

Any ideas on the draft dates? I am sure it is probably to early to nail down a specific date, but can we start narrowing it down so we can at least get an idea?

Steg-- Any news on you coming to Jersey or will you be doing it via the phone?

Unlike in most years past, you guys don't have to go by me for the dates this year... It is VERY and ever-increasingly unlikely that I will be headed back to New Jersey this summer... So, I recommend that we just proceed assuming that I will be doing it by... [smiley=phone.gif] In fact, the sooner you guys get a date nailed down the slightly better my chances would be of making it back because then I would know when I'd want to time my trip so as to coincide with our draft. In any event, I am completely flexible for once with respect to the date... [smiley=awwgee.gif] With the assumption that I will not be back, ANY Saturday or Sunday in late July or August or even September before the season begins will probably work for me. I would, however, like the start time on the day of the draft to be bumped back as late as possible (to at least 2 o' clock, which is 8 a.m. for me) as I am six hours behind you guys. I will add this, though... Working under the assumption that I will not be back there this year, I REALLY urge you guys (the usuals who are clustered between central Jersey and D.C.) to "get it together" and still get together on that end without me. Someone's going to have to take the lead on that, though!!! :-/

I spoke to Steg about the draft last week. I'm glad that we are talking about it.
I can not do it on July 22nd. I will be driving to the beach for vacation that day.
So July 29, Aug 5,12,19,26 are all good possibilities.

The draft for my league will be in late August, I just don't know when yet.

Let's get some more input from the other guys and keep moving forward.

Just throwin' this out there... How's about a VERY untraditional "late" draft...??? When I'm there, it's unlikely to ever happen... How about the weekend of September 2nd and 3rd???

Stevo,... do remember with me not there and no rules discussions yet on the table the draft should get a quick start. When I say a 2 o' clock start time, I mean that is when I'd like us to start picking. Around then is when we usually start picking even if the meeting starts at 12 or 1 o' clock. That said, that doesn't mean I don't want you guys getting together earlier for some hang-out time...

I now cannot do the 26th of August, That is when my draft will be for my league.
So that now leaves July 29th, August 5,12,19, and Sep 2nd like Steve said. I think we really need some input from the other dudes in this league. We are down to less than 2 months guys.

I am also in favor of a late draft this year for the reasons already stated. I do not believe any of the dates mentioned are conflicts for me. Frank, Pak, Trout, let me know if you guys have an interest in getting together somewhere...

I'm all for getting together as usual. September 2nd sounds good and is open for me. Based on all the births we can probably have the draft at a local Chuck E Cheese. Other wise, I will offer my house as usual. I'm open for everything.

BUT, can we get some guys hittin' the phones [smiley=phone.gif] here??? After the first general announcement is made here, sewing things up really requires nailing things down with people on the old horn. [smiley=phone.gif] I know. I'm typically the one doing it all. This year, though, given my location, it's a bit difficult (and potentially costly) for me. On my cell phone I have a "nights and weekends" plan, or in mainland terms a "WEE-HOURS and weekends" plan. We currently do not have a regular phone line and may not even get one. Anyway, even if I am willing to spend daytime minutes or pay daytime rates (when my daytime minutes run out), I find that when calling you is good for me, it isn't for you given the time difference. So, I really need yous to start hittin' the phones. [smiley=phone.gif] Cyber communication just is NOT going to get the job done! Three guys in particular are coming to mind, Dave Trout, Doug Owens and Rob Pak, none of whom may even KNOW about this discussion. Also, Mark Hahn has yet to post here. But, in any event, the time just ticks away [smiley=ontheclock.gif] even as we, who are checking in here, discuss things via this thread. If there really is any hope of yous getting together en masse on that end, yous NEED to start hittin' the phones, bottom line... [smiley=phone.gif] We've got to nail a date down A.S.A.P., in any event!

The 2nd or 3rd of September is great for me. Please keep in mind that this is Labor Day weekend!!!! Only reason I mention this is that a lot of families have plans.

Another week has passed and we are still not much closer to a date.
I agree that Labor Day weekend may not be good for guys. I currently have no plans for that weekend, and would not rule it out, but Im sure that some guys would not want to disrupt the long weeken with their families. I do not have Doug's phone #. I will call him if someone gives me his #.
I have left a message for Trout already for him to check in here.
I am leaving for vacation on the 21st of July.

Why don't I throw out 2 dates here and we can see what guys think about them based on their schedules.

Which date will work better for you guys:
Sat August 12th........OR.............
Sat August 19th.

I am just trying to narrow some things down and speed this up. We are about 8 weeks away from the season opening and with vacations hitting hard now.
Let's keep working and guys can chime in on which of these weekends would work better for them.

As for the dates Joe proposes, again, it's all good for me. Those Saturdays (August 12th or 19th) or, for that matter, those Sundays (August 13th or 20th) work for me as do ANY of the Labor Day weekend days, INCLUDING Monday the 4th. It seems, thus far, like Pak, who has yet to post here, is the ONLY stick in the mud regarding Labor Day weekend. As long as he'd be available by phone, [smiley=phone.gif] though, then he's good to go.

In any event, as Joe states, we got to get this hammered out... like soon!

I called D.T. and D.O. this afternoon. I didn't hear from D.O. DT called me back and left a message... He said that he'll be posting here shortly, but, in short, he said that pretty much any weekend will work for him. Sundays are better than Saturdays (given his work). He didn't specifically mention Labor Day weekend or that Monday, but he did say the later, the better and didn't mention any problem with September 2nd, 3rd or 4th. I guess we'll find out more details when/if he posts. BUT, bottom line, he says he's flexible, so it seems like if we make a determination here a.s.a.p., he'll be able to work around it as long as he knows enough ahead of time. SO, LET'S GET TO IT!!!

Personally, I'm going with the later, the better, so my preferences are in order: 1) Monday, September 4th, 2) Sunday, September 3rd, 3) Saturday, September 2nd (but I have a feeling this one isn't going to be good for D.T. at all). From there, just keep working backwards. But, again, it's more important that you guys who have conflicts work this out. It seems like guys like D.T., Markie, Danny and myself, which is almost half the league, are good to go whenever. The main dudes we need to hear from at this point to get this done are Pak and D.O. So, if you guys (who are not as flexible) can set aside just a little time and push it with them, [smiley=phone.gif] that would be great!!!

I am open to Labor Day weekend also, but not Labor Day, like SW. I was just tossing out days to get things moving. I am flexible though.

Here's the BOTTOM LINE regarding the three guys we are having SO MUCH TROUBLE getting to "respond"... 1) Dave Trout is flexible, so we can proceed; 2) Rob Pak is not responding as he said he would; 3) Doug Owens is for some reason impossible to get through to right now. Regarding Doug, I have left him a couple messages now, neither of which he has returned, and called him at all different times of the day, to no avail. He has always called me back fairly promptly. Perhaps he is away. I hope nothing is wrong. BUT, at this point, I think we just need to proceed in making a decision with or without Rob or Doug's input. Again, DT seems to be good to go, with his only preference being Sundays to Saturdays given his job. So, I am calling the vote right now... These guys who are not around are just forfeiting theirs... They've been duly warned...

So, my vote is for Sunday, September 3rd!!!

Next...

Let's get this done this week...

Left a message for Pak informing him that by not posting he forfeits his 1st rounder to me. I guess he accepts that.

As for me, August 20 is now a no-go.

I am good for September 3. So let's consider this the 6th vote for September 3 and set it down (unless one of the deliquents cannot do it that day and has a good excuse). In that case August 27 is good for me too.

Guys, as I will be participating remotely this year (for the first time since, like, forever :'(), I would REALLY like to be able to participate by way of the internet (as I expressed in the e-mail I just sent yous). Hey, guys! Rob Pak left me a message overnight (my time) last night. It so turns out that he is not doing so well... [smiley=sick.gif] and is receiving medical attention. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers. [smiley=pray.gif] He thinks all will be well, though, and, as regards things here, he's surely in and, moreover, can make September 3rd work. He may not be in attendance this year, but the date is doable. I appreciate his amenability. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] I have not heard back from Trout as of late, but I'm not really worried about him, and still nothing from Doug despite numerous phone calls and messages. [smiley=phone.gif] Being a personal friend of mine and given that our draft is scheduled for such an unusually late date, I am going to continue to wait him out... for as long as possible. I will not be able to make the draft this year, sorry guys. I do have some questions though??????

1) What time is it going to start? --we talk about noon, 1 and 2pm, which is it?

2) Will we be doing it..updating it...on the GRID as we go along? Will Frank and company be updating the draft on his computer at his house? Or will we be doing by phone calls which we have done in the past?

We are 5 days away, and just wanted to clear things up on this.

Here are some answers, Joe, EVERYBODY:

1) I would like to start the Draft as reasonably late as possible, perhaps at 2:30-ish, which is when we typically start "drafting", anyways. This year we have NO rules discussions nor "formalities" to wade through (and let's leave it at that for this year), so that seems like it should be fair enough. Remember that's 8:30-ish for me.

2) As far as on "the Gridiron", I will probably be running the show from here. I would like to hear Frank tell us what kind of computer venue he could hook up there for us this year. I plan to be on-line on "the Gridiron" the whole time, facilitating draft discussion on a thread and hangin' in the chatroom. I will also maintain a draft pick thread. To be honest, depending on what each of yous is planning and what kind of computer access Frank can set up, it would be cool if dudes could just make their picks on their own on a draft pick thread like the GBRFL2 does. FURTHERMORE, Trout is looking into hooking us up with some kind of 1-800 conference calling set-up through the Outback. We could ALL be hangin' on the phone together the whole time. We'd just have to call into this 1-800 number. I haven't yet heard back from him regarding that. We'll see. [smiley=fingerscrossed.gif]

I'll have a high speed cable line hook up and a wireless laptop. I'll make the wireless connection available if someone wants to bring an additional laptop.

As much as I hate to turn the discussion away from this nastiness ...

Yes Frank, Pak and I will both be present (I have to choose my words carefully) at your house for the draft. I think we'll keep it clean though.

If we plan to start drafting at 2:30 ish, let's figure whe and where to do the lottery and some time to talk trades. This draft is stacked and the vultures are already started to fly around my head for my pick.
