Title: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by StegRock on Jun 1st, 2014, 1:07am Heyas, fellas! As the sun begins to set on the graduate school chapter of my life, I am getting more and more back into things and, as such, getting on this early, more like I used to in "yesteryear". Indeed, June 1st is the earliest I have been on this in years. In any event, we are looking at a similar drill as the last couple years. As yous can probably already surmise, I will not be in Jersey this summer, so, aside from you all back east getting something together on your own, we are looking at another remote administration of the Summer Meeting & Draft, on-line here on "the Gridiron" and by conference call. Making things easier on us again this year, for my part, as things stand right now, my schedule is wide open. I can do any weekend from late July until kickoff! SO, with all that said, let's get to hammering this out. At the very least, it would be good for everybody to list any "no-go" dates! Secondly, stating preferences would be good. The later the better; earlier if need be. Let's get to it... |

Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by DB on Jun 1st, 2014, 6:53pm August 3 is no good for me. I recommend setting a date sooner rather than later because the schedule will fill up soon. |

Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by DirkDiggler on Jun 9th, 2014, 9:24am At this point in time, I do not have any no go dates in August. My preference, as always, is the later the better. |

Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by StegRock on Jun 9th, 2014, 3:44pm First off, a BIG thanks to those who have already chimed in!!! [smiley=twothumbsup.gif] [offtopic] on 06/01/14 at 18:53:48, DB wrote:
Do not disagree, but do not want to engage in the futile -- and potentially confusing -- exercise of setting -- and constantly switching -- dates, which is what will indubitably happen if we set a date when only 40% of the league has chimed in. SO, in an effort to help me get folks tuned in here, [smiley=threed.gif] if I could get some help from you all in contacting the others ([smiley=phone.gif] -- which can prove to be somewhat difficult for me given time-zone differences), that proactive course of action would surely be greatly appreciated and probably fairly effective. :) Indeed, feel free to update this thread with any contact attempts! Thank you! [smiley=bow.gif][/offtopic] |

Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by Pakman on Jun 9th, 2014, 3:51pm I am not available on from August 23rd through the 30th. However, I am available on August 31. Any other dates, I will try to work around. I agree with the later the better. |

Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by StegRock on Jun 13th, 2014, 6:11pm Well, we are still awaiting Mark, Frank and Travis (nothing too new there, so I remain basically unphased) BUT also a conspicuously absent Joe. [smiley=hmmmm.gif] When you do chime in, Joe, I would appreciate your also sending out the draft spreadsheet (assuming you have maintained one). Ultimately, I am not too worried about any of this. We are still TEN days ahead of last year (I sent out last year's kickoff e-mail on June 23rd). Hopefully, no one drops a bomb on Sunday, August 31st, which is looking good and is the date I am tentatively targeting. [smiley=bullseye.gif] Over and out... [smiley=onit.gif] |

Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by DOLFAN on Jun 13th, 2014, 7:37pm The 31st of August works for me. I have the draft Grid updated and will send it out this weekend. The chart is before the lottery has taken place, so the bottom 5 owner positions may change. |

Joe did e-mail this out to everyone. Thanks, buddy! A couple e-mail addresses may have been out-of-date. So, I cleaned the grid up a touch, though it was well-done and flawless (as far as I can tell) in terms of its composition, and decided to make it available for download like I used to (but have not for the last few years). Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by StegRock on Jun 25th, 2014, 4:21pm This is GREAT, fellas! Seriously, we are on the verge of nailing down a draft date more smoothly than we EVER have. This could get finalized matter-of-factly, that is, without my ever having to call an official vote. Awesome! Thanks a bunch, guys! [smiley=bow.gif] Travis is all that is left... Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by StegRock on Jul 25th, 2014, 10:31pm Okay, with NFL training camps getting into full swing, here is the official announcement regarding our 2014 Draft... The date of this year's Summer Meeting & Draft will be Sunday, August 31st! The start time will be 3:30 p.m. (EST) (that is, 9:30 a.m. for me in Hawaii), which seems reasonable for all time zones involved, but let me know if not for you because we do have wiggle room. I will arrange a conference call, but let's plan to post our picks here on a thread on our message board. So, try to also be able to be on-line that day. It would be great if everybody could post their picks for themselves. [smiley=yes.gif] Also of note, "the Gridiron" chatroom is a useful resource. Indeed, once the draft has begun, I think it is a more apropos medium than the conference call. That said, we will at least kick things off with a conference call. Ahead of us is one of the funnest months of the year for a fantasy footballer! [smiley=yes.gif] |

Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by DB on Jul 26th, 2014, 10:35am We could also have the meeting on Skype (like they do in The League). |

I am open to that... Only drawback I can think of off the top of my head would be people who are not going to be stationary for the bulk of the meeting. It is easier for them to plug back in with just a phone call. Also, how many of you have set up or want to set up Skype streaming video? It is not difficult, but I know like for me I have not used Skype or even a camera on my computer for like four years, so I would have to rig all that back up. Mind you, I am surely willing to do so, but really only if a good number of us are on board. On the other hand, this does pull us away from how I sort of envision the Draft running (at least during these non-get-together years), that is, with us disengaging from an active line after the "Meeting" portion (whatever the medium: Skype, conference call or whatever) and just making our picks on the thread that has been set up for us to do so here on our message board on "the Gridiron". I think getting off the phone or whatever and just getting behind the computer and on the message board would better facilitate in-draft trades because it would be easier to have calm, private conversations with your trade partner and in general would make for a more relaxing draft experience. (Mind you, I hope that in years to come, as we all get more "established"/"settled", we start getting together again. That seems a ways off still.) With that said, if anybody wants to work on setting a Skype option up, have at it... |
||

Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by DB on Jul 27th, 2014, 7:41pm Yeah, Skype may be too much trouble. Conference call is quick and easy. |

This regards the Draft Lottery... It is has been our practice to do the Draft Lottery the day following cut-down day (usually/always a Monday evening) via conference call. That is not going to work for me this year. Cuts are due on Sunday, August 24th, but Monday, the 25th is not good for me (given the time difference). So, my thought is just to do it on the 24th. I do not see how it makes much, if any difference. So, if that is okay with you all, I would like to declare the Draft Lottery date for Sunday, August 24th, say, around 5:00 p.m. (EST), which would be 11:00 a.m. for me (I can go later, but earlier, within reason, would be better). Remember that this only takes about 15-20 minutes and that includes BS time. Does that all sound okay with yous??? Please chime in at your earliest possible convenience. Thank you! [smiley=bow.gif] |

Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by Travistotle on Aug 16th, 2014, 12:52am A bit earlier would definitely be better for me - say, 3pm EST - but I might be able to make 5pm work. |

Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by StegRock on Aug 16th, 2014, 3:49pm Though I am willing to do it, 9:00 a.m. (Hawaii Time) is a little bit early for fantasy football stuff for my tastes. How about we split the difference and say 4:00 p.m. (EST)? I could make that work. Thoughts? My only further comment, which is just common sense/common courtesy, really -- and this stands for anybody who chimes in, not just T-Rave -- is that, if we adjust the start time for you, you had better show up... :-/ |

Well, only as circumstances genuinely dictate... The lottery only lasts a matter of minutes, ten to twenty. If you are late, you run the risk of missing the whole event. A Summer Meeting & Draft gathering is more like a family picnic setting, where people show up as they can within fairly wide reasonable bounds. It is a great opportunity to really get to know one another as fellow human beings, moreover, without the "overseer's" hovering presence. [smiley=whistle.gif] Of course, when the Summer Meeting & Draft is conducted over the phone and/or on-line, which is how we have been doing it in late years, punctuality is much more important (because there is not a whole lot else to do except for get to business).[/offtopic] |

Title: Re: 2014 Summer Meeting & Draft Post by StegRock on Aug 30th, 2014, 5:23pm Hey, everybody! As we head into the 2014 Draft tomorrow, do please double-check your rosters as they are presented on the "Rosters" page at the league web site and make sure they are correct. One biff has been pointed out to me. Such biffs could prove misleading in relation to the draft. I do not think there are any more, but please do double-check. Thank you! :) |
