Title: Sleeper WR's Post by StegRock on Aug 28th, 2002, 8:45am In response to an e-mail I received from Albert J. regarding "Sleeper Wide Receivers"... In order, if available, I would try to get my hands on: Quincy Morgan Steve Smith Antwaan Randle El Jerry Porter T.J. Houshmandzadeh Derrius Thompson This is a list of pretty "deep sleepers." If they are too deep/obscure, let me know. I'll give it another try! :) Does anybody else have any thoughts on the matter? |

Title: Re: Sleeper WR's Post by paulinstl on Aug 30th, 2002, 7:40am I'm keeping an eye on Javon Walker. This reminds me of when Sterling Sharpe retired and they had big questions at WR. and Freeman came out of nowhere and lit it up. Walker is a play maker and if Favre gets comfortable with him...look out! |

Though Walker is intriguing, he is also still a rookie. In a Keeper League, I suppose he has quite a bit more upside. But, for this year, I see his numbers' being limited. Actually, I like/have liked the lot of Green Bay receivers quite a bit vis-a-vis the skeptics. The group consists of 1) Terry Glenn, 2) Donald Driver, 3) Robert Ferguson, 4) Javon Walker, 5) Charles Lee, 6) Bubba Franks, 7) Tyrone Davis, hell, I even like 8) David Martin. Oh, and, did I forget to mention RB Ahman Green? Point being, I just do not see enough balls to go around for a rookie, mind you, to have enough success to be on the fantasy radar. Now, if he is forced into more action by way of an injury, that is a different story. But, as things stand now,... Actually, the rookie receiver I prefer is Jabar Gaffney, who is going to get to "grow up" with David Carr. |

Title: Re: Sleeper WR's Post by PhantasyPhilly on Sep 7th, 2002, 8:46pm I also like Gaffney and think Carr will be a good one (eventually), but if forced to take a rookie WR (which I never do, they almost never have good 1st years - Gardner, Robinson, Mitchell last year), I would most likely choose Antonio Bryant. He is the #2 receiver (by default after Rocket went down) and has a good running game to open up the offense a bit. His QB is athletic and likes to throw deep, so if the attention is being paid to Galloway, Bryant could get some looks. |

The Gaffney-Carr combo is nice because they will get to grow together, including through the "growing pains." I think they could be a nice duo in years to come. Could be like a Couch-Johnson kind of thing. But, you are probably right... Bryant, after Ismail's going down, is the better pick-up right now. Good call! [smiley=yes.gif] |

Title: Re: Sleeper WR's Post by Bandit on Sep 7th, 2002, 11:48pm I will tell you who to look out for is Troy Edwards. This guy is a former #1 pick that was initially pick up by a shit offense in the Steelers. Now that he is with the Rams look out. Maybe not initially, but in the middle or towards the end of the season he has the potential to be great. |

Title: Re: Sleeper WR's Post by DirkDiggler on Sep 8th, 2002, 10:50am I still am a firm believer in Freddie Mitchell. He is entering his second year with the Eagles who run a fairly complex West Coast Offense. Generally it takes a WR 2-3 years to "get it". Granted, the Eagles obviously felt confident enough in Freddie that they went out and signed Freeman.(sarcasm intended.) However, I truly think the Eagles were more worried about Thrashes knees than Freddies performance. He has breakout written all over him. |
