Responding to an e-mail from Graham inquiring about Jonathon Wells, Chester Taylor and Brian Westbrook...

Of those three, I would have to say that Wells is without doubt the cream of that bunch. Taylor and Westbrook are about even. Taylor has the upside of (at present) being the immediate backup to a seemingly fragile starter, Jamal Lewis. If Lewis stays healthy, though, or they bring in a guy like Jamal Anderson or Ricky Watters if he goes down, then Taylor is useless. As for a "scouting" report, Taylor doesn't do anything for me. I don't know quite how, but he has "Travis Prentice" written all over him. Regarding Westbrook, he is in a mix in Philly with two ahead of him. At this point, I would say he is a 3rd-down back at best. However, I like both of the guys in front of him, Duce Staley and Dorsey Levens, much less than Jamal Lewis and they are both fragile, too. That having been said, as per yesterday's reports, Correll Buckhalter could make it back this season. I actually think he is the class of that bunch. Look out for him for next year at least. At any rate, regarding Taylor and Westbrook, I guess the very small edge for me goes ever so slightly to Taylor.

A guy who I like a little bit more than both Taylor and Westbrook is Lamar Gordon. Faulk goes down and he just might be the guy. Just on "high potential" alone I would give him a long look.

Now, for some deep sleepers... How about Detroit RB James Mungro (5'9, 214 lbs.) out of Syracuse, who has looked good all off/preseason and has a gimpy James Stewart and a pathetic Lamont Warren in front of him, Tampa Bay RB Travis Stephens out of Tennesee, who also has looked pretty good and is backing up Michael Pittman who has been banged up, and last but not least, Arizona RB Josh Scobey out of K. State, who is behind Thomas Jones, who has not really looked good this preseason, and Marcel Shipp, pulllleeeeze?
