Title: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by StegRock on Sep 3rd, 2002, 6:34pm This is another new regular thing I want to start as a "trademarkish" type thing for "the Gridiron". "Red Zone Players of the Week" are simply to be ONE player from each of the FIVE skill positions, QB, RB, TE, WR, PK. Just list ONE for each position, no stats projections necessary. Let's keep it simple for the newbies! Also, I do not always want to be "the first" guy posting on these type things. So, I would like someone else to chime in first. I will give the basic template/pattern I want you to use. Again, PLEASE follow it closely for the newbies. THANKS! Here is the pattern to follow (cut and paste it if need be): QB - ... RB - ... WR - ... TE - ... PK - ... (Of course, the addition of SMILIES is always cool! [smiley=beatnik.gif] ) |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by DirkDiggler on Sep 3rd, 2002, 7:21pm I guess someone has got to go first. might as well be me. QB--Jeff Garcia---He is gonna tear up The New York Giants Secondary on Thursday night. RB--Ricky Williams--Does Detroit even have a defense? WR--Randy Moss--Gotta believe 40% of plays are gonna go to him. PK--Carney-- Don't think New Orleans offense will be able to get it in the endzone, so he will have a great week! |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by Jay on Sep 3rd, 2002, 7:46pm QB -- Daunte Culpepper (The Chicago secondary is ripe for the pickings with Brown dinged up and a couple of first time starters) RB -- Emmitt Smith (He always shines in prime time and he isn't playing anybody) WR -- Marvin Harrison (always starts out like a dynamo and Jacksonville has ???? in their secondary) PK -- David Akers ( I like that matchup to be a kicker dual) |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by Old_Mans_Nipple on Sep 3rd, 2002, 9:04pm QB: Drew Bledsoe - Drew makes a statement and puts on a show for the Buffalo (and some New England) fans. Later that weekend, Tom Brady also makes a statement: "You signed me to a rich extension? Suckers!" [smiley=moon.gif] RB: Anthony Thomas - The Gay Train (Muck Fichigan), in his regular season return to Memorial Stadium in Champaign, riddles the Minnesota allege"D." Unfortunately, since the NFL uses instant replay, he'll actually lose a fumble on the Illini's field. Why oh why couldn't there be College Instant replay 2 years ago? [smiley=fumin.gif] WR: Keyshawn Johnson - I think Keyshawn will be unshackled from Dungy's offense and benefit greatly from Gruden's show. Doesn't hurt he's going up against a secondary that includes Fred Thomas, Michael Hawthorne, and NASCAR's Kenny Irvin. TE: Jay Riemersma - Bledsoe goes off and takes another Wolverine with him. PK: Todd Peterson - he's a kicker, so who knows? Seems like a decent bet to get some chances on Monday night. I apologize in advance to Bledsoe, Thomas, Keyshawn, Riemersma and Peterson owners for virtually guaranteeing their suckassedness this weekend. [smiley=shootmyself.gif] |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by bgsgfan on Sep 3rd, 2002, 9:57pm Anyone can pick top teir players - c'mon guys! ::) QB - Shane Matthews - Washington either plays from behind and throws all day... or plays from ahead and throws all day - against a porous Arizona Defense RB - Emmitt - runs ragged over the expansion team WR - Sherry Glenn - off to a great start before injury TE - Eric Johnson - outstats Shockey PK - Peterson - scores 11 points Def - Dallas - expansion team gets shutout |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by StegRock on Sep 3rd, 2002, 11:25pm Oops! Thanks, bg...! I forgot tight ends when I started this. No excuses, but it was because the GBRFL doesn't play with them as a separate position. They are just considered receivers. Sorry 'bout that! If you already posted and you want to add a TE, please just add your TE by "modifying" your post. Thank you and sorry! |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by Jetdoc on Sep 4th, 2002, 6:55am QB - Peyton Manning - should rip the Jax secondary apart. RB - Curtis Martin - always starts strong and should have a field day against a weak Buff run D WR - Chris Chambers - the Detroit secondary - HAH! TE - Shannon Sharpe - should benefit from the shootout with St. Louis K - Matt Stover - the Ravens have to score SOMEHOW |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by FourTwoOh on Sep 4th, 2002, 10:36pm Meat and potatoes, goota love it! QB - Peyton Manning, 3 td's, 300+ yds RB - Ahman Green, Atlanta could well be the worst run defense in the league. WR - Chris Chambers, while Detroit tries to shut down Ricky, Feidler to Chambers goes big. TE - Bubba Franks, more gut feeling than statistical backing. PK - Todd Peterson, based on number of Pitt fg opportunities last year. Until a new team emerges as "most likely to move the ball well, but not cross the twenty" ... |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by DJ88Packerfan on Sep 5th, 2002, 12:04am QB- Brian Griese- Broncs playing catch up/ keep up vs. Rams RB- Fred Taylor- Huge game in return, will remind why he's one of the best talents in the game WR- Randy Moss- Pepper will begin the "Randy Ratio" this week by locking in on #84 TE- Marcus Pollard- Will shine vs. Jax spotty D K- Todd Peterson- Should be kicker of the week several times unless Pit. improves in the red zone D- Look for the Rams D to have several sacks and return an int. for a TD, although Griese will get some licks in |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by PhantasyPhilly on Sep 5th, 2002, 6:47am QB - Favre (He'll be showcasing Glenn against a weak Falcon D) RB - Edge (Jax defense, are you kidding me?) WR - Gardner (AZ defense, are you kidding me? Plus I have a feeling Spurrier will throw the ball some this week - just a hunch...) TE - McMichael (Do I need to say anything about the Detroit D? He's a sleeper, grab him now if he's still available.) PK - Akers (Eagles should be able to move the ball, but may have trouble punching it in. Plus he'll give you a tackle a game if you can get points for that in your league.) |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by someone on Sep 5th, 2002, 10:14am QB - Jim Miller - will light up the vikes D RB - Emmit - gonna get his numbers against the texans WR - Gardner - I hope they are gunning this week TE - Franks - Obvious, but matchup is too nice to pick any others K - Edinger - see above |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by StegRock on Sep 6th, 2002, 1:43am Fellas, You can continue posting "Red Zone Players of the Week" for Week 1. Obviously, just give them for the remaining games. Just so you know, the "Red Zone Players of the Week" threads will close sometime soon after the kickoff of Sunday's games, as a rule. Thanks again for participating and (really) making (in every sense of the word) this place a cool place to be! ;D |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by StegRock on Sep 7th, 2002, 1:27pm Okay, here are mine! A little late! But, I finally got a MUCH needed thing last night. They call it SLEEP! Without further ado... I am going to avoid making obvious choices as best as possible/wherever I can. My list is comprised of guys who this week should outperform their preseason ranking/where they probably were drafted. QB - Brad Johnson, Buccaneers (Will come through in a big way now that the real action has begun... moreover, against the depleted Saints!) RB - Emmitt Smith, Cowboys (Will make RUN at rushing title Week 1 against the Texans! ;D ) WR - a) Rod Gardner/b) Derrius Thompson, Redskins (In for a HUGE day against a VERY different Cardinals defensive backfield from two years ago when it was dominant!) TE - Ken Dilger, Buccaneers (Will benefit from Johnson's good day!) PK - Mike Vanderjagt, Colts (Okay, my obvious pick! I like him so much more than the rest for this year, though, he may just end up being my selection every week! My God, I protected the guy in the GBRFL (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/)!) |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by Bert on Sep 7th, 2002, 1:42pm QB - Manning - All of the Jax's losses on D will show this week. RB - Emmitt - Emmitt on Prime Time in a season opener is nail. Oh, and they play the Texans. WR - Keyshawn - He and Gruden will be trying to prove apoint. TE - B. Franks - Farve is the only receiver he is comfortable with. K - Vanderjagt - See Manning. |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by Mossaholic on Sep 7th, 2002, 2:58pm This is my first of many posts on this board. Here are some players I think could explode this week. QB-S. Matthews- Spurrier is a genius and he is going to throw all game long against a weak Cards D no matter the situation RB-Ahman Green- playing Atlanta enough said WR- R. Moss- of course. The randy ratio TE- Franks- had to choose someone |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by FatJake on Sep 7th, 2002, 7:05pm QB- Manning (4 TD's vs Jax in last mtg {2000}) RB- A-Train - 1st career opportunity against that vaunted Viking D WR- Galloway - vs expansion D on Nat'l TV TE - Franks K- M.Gramatica D- Cowboys |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by StegRock on Sep 7th, 2002, 10:35pm Great thoughts by ALL! Thank you! This is becoming a nice little trademark for us over here @ the Gridiron! Still would not mind seeing a few more of you frequenters, like Drugrunner, post before kickoff tomorrow. Thanks to all that have, at any rate! [smiley=havinablast.gif] |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by Drugrunner on Sep 7th, 2002, 11:17pm What do I win for being right? [smiley=money.gif] QB - Farve Last season the Falcons were the 30th ranked defense in passing yards allowed and nearly as bad in quarterback fantasy points allowed (#29) and wide receiver fantasy points allowed (#28 ). They didn't do much to shore it up, Farve has a Big weekend. RB - The Cowboys have some beef on the line. The average weight of the five starters is 329 pounds. The Texan's run a base 3-4 defense, that will provide running room between the tackles. Emmit Smith is the player of the week, lock for 100 yards, and atleast a TD. I see 2. WR - BREAKOUT PLAYER OF THE WEEK ALERT The key to rattling Spurrier’s Fun ‘n Gun is putting pressure on the QB and the Cardinals don’t to that. Arizona only tallied 19 sacks for all of last year and still don’t have a proven pass rusher. My WR of the Week Rod Gardner at 6’ 2” and 215lbs has the size to over power people. TE - Jacksonville finished the 2001 season ranked 30th in tight end fantasy points allowed. Marcus Pollard is going to explode as Manning's security Blanket. K - Just based on the possiblity Fun and Gun really show caseing it's potential on a suspect Zona D, , I'm going to ride Bret Conway this week. |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by StegRock on Sep 7th, 2002, 11:51pm Solid picks, Drugrunner! I am especially fond of your Gardner and Emmitt picks! But, to win the [smiley=money.gif] , you got to get them in before the first game of the week, pal! ;) But, on weeks where there are Thursday games, let's keep this thing rollin' for the teams that still have yet to play on Sunday and Monday. This week being one of them... ...anybody else want to step up to the plate? |

Title: Re: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1 Post by Marshall_Law on Sep 8th, 2002, 3:35am QB: Brian Griese - I'm a Rams fan, so I know Griese will be forced to throw early and often. RB: Ricky Williams - What DirkDiggler said WR: David Boston - Arizona will have to score to keep up with Washington TE: Jay Riemersma - If he doesn't get cut, he's the sleeper TE of the year. K: John Carney - Will get plenty of chances when the Saints offense stalls inside the 20. |

Wish I could help you out with that. If you had asked me last year, I could link you to it. It's put out by FBGs.com, but this year is within their paid member area. That data, and the Rushing and Passing reports are invaluable to a FFler IMO. This year is the first time I have ever been inside a pay site ever, but I've come to rely on that info so heavily that I finally caved in. I'd just go crazy not having it available anymore. I will give you something just as cool though. http://www.twominutewarning.com/fan21.htm It's actually a Sports Book site, but take a look at the extra information down in the lower right hand area of the front page they provide for helping Gamblers decide on how to place bets. Red Zone Target info, Individual player Performance against over500/under500 Oponents, TDs by distance for those of us that get bonus' from them, all sorts of good stuff you can incorperate into your thoughts. And it's still free |

While I am thinking about it, FanBall used to provide the same Fantasy Point Rankings as well a few years ago. I'm sure they still do within their member area also. I can't confirm that though. FanBall (I can't remember what they called themselves 3 years ago?) actually was the innovator of those style stats. I know that FBGs.com provides them as well. |

Well, Fanball.com is actually a spinoff of "Fantasy Football Weekly Magazine", which Paul Charchian started back in the mid-late 80's (I am not sure of exactly when actually?)! I know that "MrFootball.com", which was run by a nice chap who now partners with the "FootballGuys.com" guys ultimately sold his domain name to Fanball. It couldn't be him you are thinking of, could it? |
