Title: "Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 2
Post by StegRock on Sep 10th, 2002, 10:36am
WEEK 2

"Red Zone Players of the Week" are simply to be ONE player from each of the FIVE skill positions, QB, RB, TE, WR, PK.  Just list ONE for each position, no stats projections necessary.  Let's keep it simple for the newbies!  Also, I do not always want to be "the first" guy posting on these type things.  So, I would like someone else to chime in first.  I will give the basic template/pattern I want you to use.  Again, PLEASE follow it closely for the newbies.  THANKS!

Here is the pattern to follow (cut and paste it if need be):

QB - ...
RB - ...
WR - ...
TE - ...
PK - ...

(Of course, the addition of SMILIES is always cool! [smiley=beatnik.gif] )

Still a little early for me but someone has to go first might as well be me

QB- D. Bledsoe- will probaly shred the Vikings D

RB- E. George- tear up Dallas

WR- E. Moulds- Bledsoe has to throw the ball to              someone

TE- T. Gonzalez- I hate to pick someone so obviuos but the matchup against the Jags is just too good

K- Carney- just because

I'll try to pick non-top tier players again that should do well based on matchups.

QB: Jim Miller vs Atlanta - Look for Miller to shred a second straight weak pass defense.

RB: Michael Pittman vs Baltimore - Pittman will have a breakout game against one of the worst teams in the NFL

WR: Moulds vs Minnesota - will be inspired by Moss

TE: Shockey vs St Louis - he will continue to be targetted and will make the catches this time

K: Longwell vs. New Orleans - GB WRs won't drop nearly as many passes as the Bucs did and Longwell will benefit

QB - Mark Brunell, Jax vs. KC.  If some guy named Kelly Holcomb can do it, why not a real QB?

RB - Ahman Green, GB vs. NO.  Obvious choice.  Could be 150+ and 3 TDs...?

WR - Terrell Owens, SF vs. Den.  Broncos held Ram WRs in check, but Owens will be out for blood.  Remember, he's going for 2000+ yds this season...

TE - Randy McMichael, Mia vs. Ind.  Dungy doesn't have the defense built yet and this TE is for real.

K - Jay Feely, Atl vs Chi.  Atlanta will move the ball a bit against Chicago, but Chicago will clamp down and hold them out of the endzone... enter the kicker.

I'm not ready to put up all my picks yet, so just a quick comment.

Dungy's "Cover Two" defense is HUGELY vunerable to the TE.  Look for McMichael to have another big week.  I don't know if it lasts all year, but it will this week.

QB - Warner - They will take out their frustrations on the Giants.   I think they blow them out and Warner goes nuts this week.    If they don't I'm heading  [smiley=downthetubes.gif] in one of my leagues...

RB - Lamar Smith - Against Detriot  ::)   He should be a lock for 3 TD's.    [smiley=alcoholic.gif]

WR - D Mason - The Texans made the Cowgirls look bad.  Mason will walk through them for the tune of a couple of touches and 150 yds receiving   [smiley=bonghit.gif]

TE - K Dilger - I'd like Keysnob to start scoring for me, so I guess Dilger gets the love this week...  [smiley=gettinridden.gif]

K - J Feely - Falcons will move the ball (Vick is for real), but have a tough time getting in the zone against da bears... [smiley=gettinhammered.gif]

Till next time  [smiley=flipa.gif] ...

QB: Drew Brees: Houston facing a HUGE letdown, and Brees should pick em apart

RB: Ahman Green: Should do well against the Saints defense

WR: Kevin Johnson: At home vs the Bungles, and Quincy had the spotlight last week

TE: Mickael Ricks: Like him to had a productive game vs the Panthers

K: Joe Nedney: Just because ;D

QB: Tom Brady, after last night's game he should kil the Jets' secondary.

RB: Ladanian Tomlinson, Houston's first road game after emotional win in week 1.

WR: Chris Chambers, shreds Indy for a couple of long ones.

TE: Chad Lewis, seems like he always scores on Monday night.

PK: John Hall, should get some chances after the Jets stall in the red zone.

DEF: Rams, inexperienced Giants O line, banged up Barber, and the Rams wil be pissed!

QB - Jim Miller - Don't laugh, he threw all over the Vikes, and he'll do it again in Atlanta.

RB - Corey Dillon - It's his week to rebound.

WR - Jimmy Smith - The Chiefs secondary is a joke, and Smith will be the punchline.

TE - Shannon Sharpe - Big week vs the Niners.

K - Jeff Wilkins - Martz will decide FGs are good this week!!!

QB Jake Plummer (vs. Sea) - Oakland scored 31 points against a pitiful Seattle defense.  Plummer should score more.

RB Anthony Thomas (vs. Atl) - Ahman Green almost got 200 yards against the non-existent Falcon run D.  And the Pack had a passing game that was very productive.  A-Train should roll all over these guys in a smash-mouth offensive effort.

WR Eric Moulds (vs. Min) - put up very good numbers last week against a decent secondary.  Minnesota's secondary is terrible.  Should mean big numbers for Bledsoe's clear #1.

TE Randy McMichael (vs. Ind) - and you thought he had a good game against the Lions...wait to you see him in the shootout with Indy.

K  Adam Vinatieri (vs. Jets) - always has a great day against my poor Jets.

I hope mine this week are not too obvious...

QB - Brett Favre (the Pack packs up and heads to the Big Easy, Brett's hometown area)

RB - 1a) Anthony Thomas (obvious choice coming off a lackluster Week 1 and going up against the Falcons this week)
1b) Jamel White (just think he will have one of those Jamel White-type weeks where he will break a couple biggies... also think that they continue to favor him over Green... I am actually probably going to start him over CuMar this week in the GBRFL) :o

WR - Jimmy Smith (in for a big day against a WEAK KC secondary... should score at least once)

TE - Tony Gonzalez (will improve on last week's solid numbers with an even bigger day at home against the Jags)

PK - Mike Vanderjagt (will stick with him all year... odds are, after last week's 4-extra-pt. performance, he will have a big day at home against a Dolphins team that fields a solid defense)

Just curious Steg...  Do you get a commission every time you mention Jamel White?   [smiley=hellyeafunny.gif]

QB- Steve McNair ... Dallas secondary in shambles
RB- Corey Dillon ... he had his bad game  ;)
WR- David Boston ... did well against Wash's corners
TE - Eric Johnson ... benefits from coverage rolling to Owens
PK- M Gramattica ... in a dull defensive game

I'm going to have some fun this week, and see what happens.

QB Bret Farve  -  The Saints finished a disappointing 2001 ranked 20th in passing yards allowed, 27th in quarterback fantasy points allowed, 21st in wide receiver fantasy points allowed, and 31st in tight end fantasy points allowed. If opening week is any indication, there are still problems with the New Orleans pass defense as Brad Johnson threw for 278 yards and 2 scores.  The huge injury note for this game is Fred Thomas. The #1 Cornerback for New Orleans is out after breaking his hand last week. You know QB Brett Favre is liking his chances against Saint Cornerbacks Michael Hawthorne, Ken Irvin and rookie Keyou Craver.

RB Lamar Smith  (Shawn Alexander will have a great day, but picking Alexander is way too easy!)   There are many words to describe the shambles of a defensive team that is the Lions. Debacle, embarrassment, pathetic - all are accurate and lend their own shade of meaning to the sorry picture.   The Panthers are coming off the adrenaline rush of winning their first game in 16 tries, so expect an emotional edge to favor the offensive unit. As a team, the Panthers managed a very respectable 145 yards against a young and inexperienced Ravens unit. That Raven's team is approximately a billion times better than the sorry excuse for an NFL team that the Panthers face on Sunday.

WR Marty Booker  Sure, there are much safer picks, but this one is a fun surprise.  The 2001 Falcons were the 30th ranked defense in passing yards allowed and nearly as badly in quarterback fantasy points allowed (#29) and wide receiver fantasy points allowed (#28 ).  An Atlanta secondary without cornerback Ray Buchanon serving a steroid suspension, should give the Bears all they want.

TE Wesley Walls (Could have gone with Bubba Franks as well, he will have a big game) - Detroit does not possess a quality defense. Their 2001 numbers include finishing 25th in passing yards allowed, 31st in quarterback fantasy points allowed, 27th in wide receiver fantasy points allowed, and 23rd in tight end fantasy points allowed. The pitiful Lions pass defense has Jay Fiedler on pace to throw 48 TDs. Not a solid start for Detroit.  TE Wesley Walls shine for you. The Lions had no answer for Miami's TE Randy McMichael last week and I doubt they'll have one for Walls

K Ryan Longwell  -  Kicker, schmicker, who cares.  Basically, I say that Green Bay goes ape shit, and gets Mideval on the Saints this week, and Longwell will be along for the ride.

QB: Warner - Rams will show league the O hasn't lost anything

RB: Alexander - vs. Arizona nuff said

WR: Moss - Randy ratio will be even higher

TE: C. Lewis - will take advantage of Trotter's aggressiveness and get down field behind him!

K: no idea!!!!!!!!
