Title: E. Georges back up

i just looked at the Tenn. depth chart and John Simon was listed as # 2.  Any one ever heard of him?  I thought Mike Green was 2nd behind George. [smiley=gonecrazy.gif]

I just double-checked over at "The Sporting News", whose depth charts tend to be very accurate, and my checking confirmed what I thought.  Robert Holcombe is currently serving as Eddie George's backup and I think he is a damn good pick-up.

Steg, I checked nfl.com and it listed Holcombe as out(hip). Another site that will remanin nameless shows him out 4-6 wks. dated 9/2/02 with an immobilized hip. John Simon is listed as the back up on the "un named" site.

Thanks, piglet!  I did not know about the Holcombe injury.  Yes, ESPN, too, lists him as out for 4 to 6 weeks with a hip injury.  Here is the injury report for the week from ESPN:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/injuries

Now, as to whom is going to get the ball if George is not to play this weekend, it looks like both Mike Green and John Simon are going to split time.  Simon I know nothing about; Green did not impress me last year when given the opportunity; he was beaten out by Skip Hicks, who looked like a world beater, for goodness sake.  So, I suppose I would lean toward Simon based on that alone.

Here are the relevant links at ESPN:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/news/2002/0920/1434515.html

http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/clayton_john/1434335.html

Anyone with any specific knowledge on Simon... PLEASE speak up and speak now!

I must say, though, that if George does end up being out for an extended period of time and Holcombe is able to return in 2 to 4 weeks (his 4-to-6 week injury began on 9/12) from now and neither Simon nor Green have taken a hold on the position (a lot of if's, granted), Holcombe would be a very intriguing pick-up.  The guy has some skills from what I have seen.  He might just need to be placed in the "right" offense (for him).

The only thing on Simon in the NFL bio is he is from Louisiana tech.  Career: 1 rec. for 6 yards and no rooshes :).  I agree Holcombe has the talent but an immobilized hip doesn't  sound good for this year.
Hey piglet, re: your advise to pick up Tony Mcgee at te. [smiley=moon.gif]
