Title: Eagles Week 8 MNF Analysis by Philly
Post by StegRock on Oct 26th, 2002, 1:28am
As happens from time to time, threads get corrupted.  I noticed that Philly's "Eagles Week 8 MNF Analysis" had become so.  I was able to salvage the write-up.  If you ever notice this happening, contact me A.S.A.P. about it.  I should typically be able to salvage all the work. :)

Without further ado, I present you with the "Eagles Week 8 MNF Analysis" by Master Philly:

Last week was a biggie. I nailed the victory, though I overestimated most of the offensive production (Duce excluded).

This is another big game. There the Eagles had the intangibles in their favor last week, the G-Men have them in their favor this week. The Giants are coming off a bye following a disappointing loss to the Falcons. The Giants have double-revenge in their favor as the Eagles escaped with two (somewhat lucky) victories last year. The Eagles are coming off a hard-fought, emotional and physical win against the Bucs.

That said, the Eagles are a better team, but the Giants will play them tough.
QB:  McNabb is the cog that makes the Eagles offense run. No matter what else happens, McNabb is responsible for it.
McNabb - 220 PaYds, 75 RuYds, 2 TDs

RB:  RB has been a confusing position for the Eagles all year. Staley? Levens? Westbrook? Staley has been fairly steady this year. You knew what you were getting from him and he was an adequate #2 guy. I think now he has proven that the post-injury label is gone. Levens and Westbrook are no longer in the picture and any points they get are an aberration.
Staley - 60 RuYds, 60 ReYds, 1 TD

WR:  Things are still muddled at WR. It seems fairly evident that Freeman is not getting involved in the offense any time soon. The real question is who is the #1 target? Thrash? Pinkston? It goes back and forth, it's Thrash's turn.
Thrash - 80 ReYds, 1 TD<br>Pinkston - 40 ReYds

TE:  Chad Lewis had 2 Pro-Bowl years leading into this one. He's been pretty quiet this year, though much of it can be pinned on a lingering minor injury. Barring any injury. he'll be improved the rest of this season.
Lewis - 30 ReYds, 1 TD

K:  I'll spare you my effusive praise of this guy this week...
Akers - 3-3 XPs, 3-3 FGs

Defense:  Jeremy Shockey came out Friday and said that the Eagles secondary was overrated and said that the Eagles know they can't beat the Giants. He guaranteed a Giants win. I don't think that bulletin-board material can lead a team to victory, but it certainly won't help the Giants when the Eagles may be a bit more fired up now.
280 YdsAllwd, 5 Sacks, 2 INTs, 1 FF

;D Solid Starters: McNabb, Staley, Akers, Defense, Thrash
:-/ Adequate Backups: Pinkston, Lewis
:'( Riding the Pine: Levens, Freeman, Westbrook

Final Score:  Eagles 30 - Giants 26
Take the over!

This was FourTwoOh's response:

First Stern, now this.  [smiley=hmmmm.gif] Shockey's got a few things to learn.  :-X

Good job as always. I like what your saying 'bout Duce. Let the man have the job, and he'll come thru.

Would it be okay with you if we gave Duce's td to McNabb?  ;D Three scores would sure be sweet.

If McNabb wants all the TDs, he can have them.  I just want the Eagles to win.  My best friend is a Giants fan, so if the Eagles lose...

I don't even want to imagine the trash that will come spewing from his mouth...

Good luck against your Giants "friend", Philly!  Just for this GREAT contribution, I hope the Eagles win for you!  Thanks! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Way off on the passing yards and missed by a TD, but I figured he'd run some on them.

Staley - 60 RuYds, 60 ReYds, 1 TD (18 pts)
Actual - 126 RuYds, 37 ReYds, 0 TD (15 pts)
Underestimated him a bit, but you got 15 points instead of the predicted 18.  The real surprise was the ease with which he got those yards.  Levens (5-33) and Westbrook (3-29) made a surprise appearance this week.

Thrash - 80 ReYds, 1 TD (14 pts)
Pinkston - 40 ReYds (4 pts)

Actual - Thrash - 69 ReYds, 0 TD (6 pts)
Pinkston - 20 ReYds (2 pts)
Close on the Thrash yardage, but no scores.  Not a good air game for the Eagles against the Giants.

Lewis - 30 ReYds, 1 TD (9 pts)
Actual - 3 yds (on the 2 pt. conversion) (2 pts)
Where'd the TEs go for the Eagles this year?

Akers - 3-3 XPs, 3-3 FGs (12 pts)
Actual - 0-0 XPs, 3-4 FGs (9 pts)
The XPs were not his doing, but he could have added that 50+ yarder he missed.  Oh well, there went his perfect season.

Defense:
280 YdsAllwd, 5 Sacks, 2 INTs, 1 FF
Actual - 354 YdsAllwd, 2 Sacks, 0 INTs, 3 FF
They got a lot of prevent yardage in the air towards the end.  3 points allowed is much better than I predicted.  I didn't realize that Collins has never thrown an INT against the Eagles since he's been a Giant.  Go figure...

Final Score:  Eagles 30 - Giants 26
Actual - Eagles 17 - Giants 3
