Title: Trade for Warner? Post by Barnaby_Wilde on Nov 7th, 2002, 1:58pm Thinking of trading for Warner. Guy wants Culpepper, Toomer and Bradfod, and he will throw in another player. What do you think? |

Title: Re: Trade for Warner? Post by Philly on Nov 7th, 2002, 3:31pm I wouldn't do it. I just picked Warner up off the waiver wire this morning to stow on my bench for playoff time if needed. There's no indication that Warner will be any better when he returns. Even as bad as Culpepper has been, I'd be hesitant to trade Warner straight up for Culpepper. Toomer is one of the better WRs and Bradford is a throw-away at this point. Unless the other player he is throwing in is really good, I think you'd be getting hosed. |

Title: Re: Trade for Warner? Post by FourTwoOh on Nov 8th, 2002, 1:42am Interesting! I fully understand the desire to get Warner with Bulger. I did the opposite, drafted the junk model of Warner and traded the Bulger owner to get him. In this case. Your squad appears to be quite a bit stronger than his. If he's struggling record wise, which I suspect, yeah, I know he's got Faulk, but that wide reciever corp has got to be killing him. He needs to be paying you more and I don't see who he'd package with Warner to make me pull the trigger. Let his team wither on the vine. edit here: Looky there, I are a head coach. Now I just need a female to coach [smiley=gettinridden.gif] |

Title: Re: Trade for Warner? Post by Barnaby_Wilde on Nov 8th, 2002, 11:32pm I went ahead an d made the trade. I got Warner, Willie Jackson, and 2 IPD's (AL Wilson and Kris Jenkins) for Culpepper, Toomer, Bradford and AAron Schobel (DL, Bills) I now have for keepers for next season: Warner Ahman Green Jamal Lewis Eric Moulds Rod Smith and rookie keeper William Green have not decided on my defensive keepers yet, but I think I am looking good for next year!! |

I didn't realize you were looking ahead to next year with this trade. Anyway, Willie Jackson??? I would have at least insisted on Kevan Barlow (or even Ashley Lelie) if you are looking ahead for next year. Not sure about this trade. |

Title: Re: Trade for Warner? Post by Barnaby_Wilde on Nov 9th, 2002, 12:29pm Well, I figured I was 2 -7 with really no chance for the playoffs. I know Willie Jackson isn't good, but like I said I am planning for next year! I like my offensive keepers if Warner can regain his form from the last few years. |

Title: Re: Trade for Warner? Post by Walker_Boh on Nov 9th, 2002, 4:10pm I think the trade breaks down to Warner for Culpepper. (Not sure how your league does it’s scoring, but none of the other players involved would see playing time on my roster.) Neither one of these guys has played well this season, but I think the future is bright for them both. IMO, this trade is a toss up. Good luck. |

Title: Re: Trade for Warner? Post by paulinstl on Nov 9th, 2002, 4:30pm I guees I'm one of the guys who may be considered a homer, but I really think there are favorable factors in Kurt Warner's returning to form this season. 1. The recent play of the offensive line. A healthy Orlando Pace, a first year player, John St. Clair, getting some experience, and the resurgence of the veteran guards and center, has turned that offense around. If they play the way they have been recently, Warner will have the time to find the open guy. He didn't have this luxury in his little more than three games this year. 2. Play calling. I really believe Mike Martz has finally caught on to the fact that if you give the rock to Faulk 30 times a game, you're probably going to win. When this offense was clicking along for three years putting over 500 points up per season, they were passing and running equally well. Both Warner and Faulk posted huge numbers each year. I see the reutrn of Warner to his old form this year. I also think Culpepper is one more bad game away from the pine. |

Title: Re: Trade for Warner? Post by FourTwoOh on Nov 9th, 2002, 5:39pm Paulinstl, I've heard Nov 18th thrown around as return date. Any early tidbits of how well he threw in practice? I got Warnered twice this year, damn the 5th picks all to hell. >:( :) I've sat on him in both leagues and hope you're right. But back to my first point, is the 18th realistic. Two weeks after pins removed sounds pretty quick. |

Title: Re: Trade for Warner? Post by Barnaby_Wilde on Nov 9th, 2002, 5:42pm This was on EPSN yesterday. Looks promising... ST. LOUIS -- Kurt Warner's second day throwing the football went much better than the first. The St. Louis Rams' quarterback, limited to 10- to 15-yard tosses on Thursday, stretched his arm on 30-yard throws Friday as he continued his rehabilitation for a broken finger. Warner, who had four pins removed from a broken pinkie on Monday and has missed four games, remains certain he'll "definitely'' return for the Nov. 18 Monday night game against Chicago. "He had a lot more zip on the ball,'' coach Mike Martz said. "There was tremendous improvement from yesterday to today. It kind of surprised him, too, that he had kind of control.'' Martz said Warner wouldn't come back until he's fully recovered. The Rams are 3-0 with Marc Bulger, the former third-string quarterback. Bulger again will get the call on Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. "Maybe it'll be two or three weeks, I don't know, and I'm not going to worry about it,'' Martz said. "Marc's going good, we're going good right now. He's not going to come back until he's 100 percent.'' Warner said there was quite a bit of pain Thursday, but not nearly as much on Friday. "I know it's going to take a few days to get all the soreness out of there,'' Warner said. "I had four metal objects in their for five weeks.'' Warner was "very optimistic'' after throwing for about a half-hour on Friday. He said he threw twice as many balls as the first day back. "I could really push it today,'' he said. "I definitely think next week.'' Warner knows he'll have to show Martz he's ready. "I'm going to have to go out and make all the throws,'' he said. "He's going to trust me with what I say, but at the same time I'm not going to lie to him. "He's going to be able to tell in practice if I'm not able to do something, and make a decision from there.'' |

Title: Re: Trade for Warner? Post by paulinstl on Nov 9th, 2002, 6:19pm Pretty much what BW said in quoting that article. I also saw Warner on TV smiling like a kid at Xmas. He said he was able to put some real zip on his passes. If he remains relatively pain free, I think it's realistic to expect him next Monday night against Da Bears. No more than one week longer, for sure. |

Title: Re: Trade for Warner? Post by Line Judge on Nov 9th, 2002, 11:19pm I think I read on ESPN.com tonight that he was throwing 30 yarders today in practice with quite a bit of zip on them. That makes me happy since I was able to pick Warner up off waivers earlier this week. Hopefully he'll be back to the Warner of old just in time for my league's playoffs. |
