Title: Post game Rams' notes, Warner/Bulger Post by paulinstl on Nov 11th, 2002, 9:22am For any one who saw the game and thought they saw a shoving incident between Bulger and Warner, from the St. Louis Post Dispatch writer Bernie Micklasz: "Fans believed they saw Marc Bulger shove Kurt Warner when Warner approached Bulger to offer congratulations after the winning touchdown pass. The video of the scene actually showed that another, unidentified person pushed Warner, probably in a playful way. Warner seemed surprised, then started smiling. When I reached Bulger on the phone early Sunday evening, he was startled to learn that fans thought he shoved Warner. "It's crazy," he said. "Kurt gave me a hug on the field, and we hugged in the locker room. He was the first one out there hugging me after we scored the touchdown. I have no clue what anyone is talking about. Kurt was more happy for me than I was for myself. He's a great person and he's been terrific to me the whole time. He'd be the last guy I'd shove. I can't thank him enough for the way he's supported me." "We weren't arguing," he said. "We were talking about something that Coach Martz said to me. I got animated, but the funny thing is, it had nothing to do with Kurt and me. Our discussion was about Coach Martz." Marshall Faulk underwent MRI exams for both the left foot and right ankle early Sunday night at Barnes-Jewish Hospital West. The tests revealed what Anderson called a "very mild" right ankle sprain. "That should not be an issue," Anderson said. As for the plantar fascia muscle, it's just a strain, but it's not a slam dunk that Faulk will be available for the Rams' next game, a week from Monday against Chicago. "There is no tearing of it," Anderson said. "Just knowing that it's not torn is good news. He was walking pretty well after the game, which is a good sign. But we'll get a better idea in the next 24 to 48 hours. I would not rule him out next week." With the long work week because of the Monday night game, coach Mike Martz is giving the Rams Tuesday and Wednesday off, which gives Faulk an extra day's rest. But Martz is optimistic that Faulk will play against the Bears. "Marshall should be all right," Martz said. "He assured me that he'd be all right. When Marshall says that, he'll be OK. ... I'm not going to worry about it until he tells me I should worry." On a potential QB controversy: "Officially, Martz made it clear once again where he stands on the Kurt Warner vs. Marc Bulger debate when someone asked him if Bulger's four-touchdown, 453-yard passing performance might make Martz change his opinion about who his starting quarterback ought to be for the rest of the season. "No, not at all," Martz said without flinching. "As long as Kurt's ready to play (he will be the starter). If he looks like he did when he was going good, the accuracy, the arm strength, then we go with Kurt." |
