Title: Bulger vs. Manning/Wayne
Post by Dullo on Nov 16th, 2002, 9:59pm
Last weekend, I started Bulger in place of Manning.  Because I didn't start Manning, I didn't start R Wayne.  That obviously wasn't the main reason, Hugh and the rest of the Philly defense had me convinced that Peyton would throw for about 100 yards.  This week, the Colts come home to play Dallas.   I'm figuring that based on a solid running attack between James/Mungro, Manning should put up his 3rd 300 yrd game in a row.  Hopefully, Reggie Wayne can continue to be a decent complement to Marvin.  My decision to not start Bulger is not that I think he'll have a bad game, its more that if I'm starting Manning, I'm starting Wayne as well. There's no better feeling than watching a 50 yrd touchdown pass between a QB and a wideout that you have starting and thinking "there's a quick 22 points".  Last week, I scored high for the week on Bulger's 39 point performance (with Stewart and Hakim, go Lions! ) but I also had Manning and Wayne on my bench for a combined 61.    What do you guys think?

Manning is a stud and should always be in your lineup regardless of who he's playing. Sure, Bulger has been a great back-up this season, but I wouldn't put my team on his back and leave Peyton on the pine, no way! As far as playing Wayne, I'm not so sure... It's risky to have all your eggs in one basket. It's not like we're talking Garcia/Owens here... I'd start Manning and Hakim. Good luck.

[smiley=bulls-eye.gif] Better advice than what you would find at Fanball... at least in their RIDICULOUS "Bench the Stud" pieces (of ...)!

[smiley=hmmmm.gif] This, I don't know about.  I would go with Wayne over Hakim this week.  I think these guys are at a level where you play matchup ball.

I like how to sell the Owners Edge, they offer the following point:
"Is your bench putting up more points than your starters?  Then you need Owners' Edge!"

Which will tell you.

"Do the exact opposite of whatever Bench the Stud says to do."

I think the next tip should be "On draft day, print out our cheatsheet and go to the draft fully-prepared.  At the last second, swap your cheatsheet with some poor shmuck's and laugh your way to 2nd to last instead of last in the league!  Wooohoo!".

Actually, Fanball's not as bad as PFW.  I was just looking through the draft issue of PFW and here's a few terrible rankings.  They were "gutsy" at the time, but now prove just plain stupid.  How about A-Train 3rd overall?  Priest Holmes #15?  Behind guys like Tiki and Bettis.  Jeeze, I wasn't a Priest believer but how could he not be top 7?

Okay, back to this thread.  Play Manning.  I'm really not convinced Bulger can do what he's done with a RBBC of Gordon and Trung.  Faulk's the guy that's been moving that offense and creating the man-to-man matchups that Holt/Bruce/Bulger have been able to exploit.  Not saying Bulger won't do well but I think he's a bigger risk to have a poor game than Manning is, even tho matchups favor Bulger.

I'm startin Bulger but I'd rather be starting Manning :)

All,
Thanks for the opinions.  I'm going with Wayne/Manning as my combo.   I was in 2 FFLs last year and won the Super Bowl in both so I've got a lot to live up to in the next 4 weeks.   I cut it down to one league due to the fact that I hated playing games where my #1 RB in one league was my opponent's #1 in another.   I'm 7-2-1 in this league and tied for first place in my divsion.  (yep, tied the co-leader in week 3, pissed me off (although Derrick Brooks touchdown int at the end of the game got me the tie [smiley=gettinridden.gif].)   Here's the lineups for week 11, I think I've got a good chance.

Opponent
Culpepper
Staley
Mungro (has Hearst on bench)
Stallworth
Owens
Glenn
M Gramatica
Rams

Me
Manning
J Stewart
C Garner
Az Hakim
Kev Johnson
R Wayne
T Seder
Tampa Bay

Anyways, hope you all have a good week this week...later........M
