Title: Re: qb controversy in Den. Post by Walker_Boh on Nov 21st, 2002, 5:25pm [smiley=Uwent2far.gif]I know Shanahan isn't a fantasy player's best friend, but cut the guy some slack. What do you expect him to say? [smiley=soapbox.gif]"Uh, I know that Beuerlein has only thrown 2 passes all year, but he'll be the starter for the rest of the season. Sorry Brian, I just have a feeling that Steve is going to do well so I've decided to bench you before I even see him play." [smiley=pullleeeeeeeze.gif] Seriously, let's see how Beuerlein plays before we start ripping Shanahan. One thing is for sure, Shanahan will do what he thinks is best for the team. That's his job. Our job as fantasy players is to react accordingly. As a Denver fan, I feel lucky to have him. Go Broncos! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] |

And by the way. Between 3 ffteams I have: Griese,Beurelien,Portis,Smith,ED and the def. The last 2 league wins I had were thanks to Elway,Smith,Sharpe and the def. so you might have guessed I am a Bronco fan. [smiley=policeman.gif] |

Is that a good cop or bad cop? ;D Walker_Boh, always know I'm just messin' with ya! Hard core Chiefs fan who didn't know for quite some time he'd signed up on a Broncos board ;) Shanahan is definetly saying the right things, ie coach speak. I just feel that there will be no hesitation on his part to stick with Beurlein if he does well. What little thing/signs have you seen, if you do, to believe Shanahan has any real faith in Griese. Does Griese outright suck? No. Is he anything special? Hell no. Shanny wants to win, and has to realize that the table is set very well for a run for the division title. Unfortunately for me, he's too good of a coach to get caught up in not wanting to hurt Griese's feelings. He'll go for the wins, and there is every chance in the world that that will mean sticking with Beurlein. |

I agree with everything you said. I was just going to bat for my coach. If Beuerlein gets the offense running like the fine tuned machine it should be, I have no doubt that Shanahan would stay with him. That doesn't make him a liar though; it makes him a good coach. Like you said, Shanahan is just saying what should be said for the good of the team. It would be foolish to do otherwise. Being just a "Water Boy" I still have much to learn about the posters and exactly where they're coming from. [smiley=newbie.gif] |

Title: Re: qb controversy in Den. Post by StegRock on Nov 23rd, 2002, 2:40am I posted this "somewhere else". I am finally "bringin' it back home" where it belongs, at the prompting of one of our fellow "Gridironers." Said "Gridironer" started this here thread, as well, probably in an effort to get me to get a move on [smiley=tired.gif] [smiley=sleepers.gif] . Anyway, thanks for the [smiley=doseofreality.gif] , [smiley=smileytrash.gif] ! Now, on to the issue at hand, I am both a Griese, Beuerlein and R. Smith owner AND a die-hard Broncos fan. With that said, I think this is great for the team at this point in time. I saw someone mention that though Denver's record is 7 - 3, it feels more like 3 - 7, in my opinion 5 - 5. Listen, I like Griese a lot. I think he has very big shoes to fill both by way of following Elway in Denver and being the son of Bob Griese. I think he has been under a microscope and the media has been unfair. THAT HAVING BEEN SAID, I think that this opportunity to sit back, watch from the sidelines, take a breather and get composed could not have come at a better time, both for him and the team. I think Beuerlein will lead them nicely for three or so weeks and hand the reigns back to a more refreshed, relieved and (mentally) composed Brian Griese. I also think that Beuerlein's "FANTASY-FRIENDLY" numbers over those weeks will light a fire under Griese's a$$ (dollar-signs intended) and get him performing more like he did two years ago. By the way, did I mention that I think this is great for my fantasy team, the Plummer Snakes, as well? ;) |
