Title: 9ers MNF Thread Post by Razzak on Nov 25th, 2002, 4:36pm Well, let's see how the matchups look. Pinkston & Thrash vs. Plummer, Webster, Parrish & Heard - I still maintain the eagles wr's are jokes, so huge advantage to the 9ers. Freeman/Mitchell vs. Rumpf - Been gettin toastie lately. He might be able to run with Mitchell but Freeman's experience should hurt the rook. However, lately the 9ers have been moving Rumpfh from the right corner spot in Nickel over to the slot, making it harder for defenses to key on him. Advantage in nickel packages to the Eagles. EO-line vs. 9D-line Oh man, it's gonna be fun watching Runyan go against Carter. I'm not sure if we'll get to see this all game, as when Carter struggles they often switch him with Okeafor, as they did earlier in the season. The Eagles o-line will have to step up this game and give Koy time in the pocket as he won't be the same player McNabb is. Staley/Lewis vs. Peterson, Ulbrich, Smith Staley won't be able to get any power yards up the middle vs. Young, Stubbs, and Smith. The 9ers don't blitz much, so he won't catch the defense by surprise as with other teams. However, when the 9ers do blitz, it'll be Peterson coming off the corner. He'll be better off taking advantage of the slightly slower Ulbrich to the outside or rushing toward Peterson who's run defense has been erratic. Detmer vs. 9ers Well, we'll see. The 9ers need to force him to move and/or make quick decisions. However, they're not really a blitzing team so it's more likely they'll let him have a decent day but shut down the short passing game and staley, forcing him to throw over a cover-2. Owens & Streets vs. Bishop, Taylor, Vincent & Dawkins Streets won't do a thing. This is Owens' night. He's a MNF kinda guy and should do well vs the very good Eagles secondary. The Eagles should use Dawkins to try and level Owens every chance they get. Teams have had success out physical-ing Owens over the middle and the Eagles are the perfect team to do that. When/if that works, look for the 9ers to go to screens to Owens to keep him involved/healthy. I don't know if you can stop that, but its better than the alternative. If Owens is catching screens, the Eagles are doing a good job. Stokes vs. Brown?Sheppard? Doesn't matter. The kid's not very effective and would only be used in 3rd and long. Eagles should shut him down. 9O-line vs. EDline With all the blitzing it's hard to look at just the D-line. This is where the game will be won for the Eagles, because if the 9ers get Hearst going its over. Expect the 9ers to try and establish the run because they win when they run. Further, Heitmann has trouble with pass blocking so far so using him to runblock, his strength, is a good idea. If the Eagles want to win, they need to stop the isos/slashes to Hearst. If you can force them outside, you're doing good. Hearst/Barlow/Johnson vs. Barber/Simon/Kirkland Johnson's been worthless this year. Kirkland's still overrated IMO. So is Barlow. Hearst vs. Kirkland/Simon is the matchup to watch here. They need to step up and stop Hearst from making 6-7 yards on first down between the tackles. Garcia vs. eagles Best QB in the game IMO. You can't stop this guy. You can't pressure him as the 9ers don't give up sacks. You can't force him into bad decisions as the 9ers have a league low 9 turnovers. I actually think the best defense vs. the 9ers is a shifted zone. Shift the zone to Owens and don't blitz. Hearst is too good of a blocker and block-reader to blitz often and not get burnt. Garcia is too elusive and the o-line too consistent for blitzes to get consistent pressure. I wouldn't go so far as to spy Garcia with Kirkland, but I'd make Owens go over the middle to beat me. It's nearly impossible to gameplan for the 9ers because they are the most balanced team in the NFL with a mobile qb to boot. Stopping Hearst and taking away Owens deep is the best bet, but when you do that (Raiders) Owens still hurts you and the 9ers take 30 offensive snaps in a row to end the game. Interesting facts: 9ers fewest turnovers in NFL: 9 9ers with a win become winningest NFL MNF team (currently tied with Miami at 36) MNF History: 1-1, Eagles 27-24, 9ers 24-12 Last Year: 7-play goal line stand by 9ers preserves 13-3 win Eagles 167 points allowed, 2nd fewest in NFL SF has a +9 turnover rating For more stats, and where I got some of these, check the link below http://espn.go.com/abcsports/mnf/s/breakdown/week12/phisfo.html |

Title: Re: 9ers MNF Thread Post by FourTwoOh on Nov 25th, 2002, 4:53pm Good stuff. However, it does not lay out the scenario I need for a victory, hence, it's all rubbish! I'm very much looking forward to this game. I think the Eagle's will surprise quite few people before McNabb returns. Wether it starts tonight is to hard to tell. Conventional wisdom says no. They'll likely take a fantasy point dip as it will need to be the proverbial "team efffort", but I like the Eagle's odds of weathering the storm. |

Title: Re: 9ers MNF Thread Post by Razzak on Nov 25th, 2002, 5:40pm Good shit man. Final Score? Hmm... really depends on Koy. If the 9ers go to cover-2 and he can throw over it it'll keep them in the game. Hell if he can throw over it there's no reason the Eagles don't have a good chance at winning. However, I think the Eagles' best shot is running Staley 25+ times. In close games, Mooch plays conservative, so you can expect Barlow/Hearst to combine for 30 carries as well. 17-7 9ers. 0 turnovers for 9ers, 1 for Koy. Big hitting, lots of punting. |

Title: Re: 9ers MNF Thread Post by Razzak on Nov 25th, 2002, 10:40pm The Iggles look better with koy than with mcnabb. Mooch still sucks. He won't be resigned by the 9ers. Good lord Rumpf is gettin ABUSED. |

Title: Re: 9ers MNF Thread Post by Philly on Nov 25th, 2002, 10:42pm 21-7 Eagles at the half. I felt a LOT better about the Eagles 14 point lead last week. I can't believe the Eagles are trying to cover TO with a linebacker (Levon Kirkland even)! It's a shame Akers missed that 48 yarder early on. Maybe he'll get some chances in the second half. |
