Title: QB Controversy?
Post by Tony_O on Dec 19th, 2002, 12:59am
This Week is the SUPER BOWL...    All or nothing

A. Brooks  vs.  Cincy

           OR

M. Bulger   vs.  Seatlle

Your wisdom would be appreciated!

If Brooks is healthy, I go with him, but that shoulder scares me.???[smiley=nervous.gif] I'm sure he'll play, but one hit could end his day and you can't afford to take that risk.[smiley=no.gif] The weather won't be that good either... high of 34 with light snow.[smiley=spkyle.gif][smiley=spstan.gif] I would start Bulger. He has played well this year and I look for him to have a good day against a Seattle team that's 2-5 at home this season and given up an average of 29 points in their last 5 games. Good luck.[smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Obviously Bulger is undefeated this year and the Seattle defense makes their fantasy opponents drool.  But I'm going to recommend Brooks this week.

#1 - Brooks is injured (probable-shoulder).  But he was injured last week as well.  He threw for 250 and 2 TDs with no INTs with the same injury.   smiley=headbanger.gif]

#2 - The Rams have nothing to play for now.  The Saints are slipping in the playoff hunt and need to win to stay in.  Added incentive for the Saints.

#3 - As bad as Bulger may make the Seattle D look, keep in mind that Brooks is going up against the Bungles.   [smiley=rollinwithlaughter.gif]

#4 - After #3, I don't think I need to go on.   [smiley=hellyeafunny.gif]

As tempting as Bulger's matchup is, I would still go with Brookes.  The Saints need the win and Brookes is healthier than he was last week. :)  Any player is only one hit away from the sidelines. :-/Cincy will keep this game close enough that NO will have to pass late in the game to win.  I'm too lazy to look up these stats, but it seems like Brookes must lead the league in 4th quarter TD's.  It seems like NO's D always puts them in position to have to score late to win. 8)

Well, according to yardage rankings, like those at ESPN, Cincy's pass defense is ranked 14th, Seattle's 13th... close.  I think you should go with Bulger.  Here's my take.  The Rams will score on the Seahawks, but without Faulk 100% and Gordon struggling as of late, they are planning to start Canidate, a sign of throwing in the towel and wanting to evaluate.  As much as Seattle gives up on the ground, I think the Rams, given their aforementioned experimentation, will kind of struggle running the ball and when it comes to poking it in the endzone, it is going to have to be through the air.  As for Cincy versus the Saints, the Bengals can assure themselves the first pick of the draft with a loss this week; whereas, the Saints have every reason to play "up" this week after last week's heartbreaking loss.  They can't afford to look beyond the Bengals.  If these factors were not in place, the game might remain competitive as CoachH suggests.  But, I see the Saints blowing them out, primarily on the legs of Deuce McAllister.  I just think that New Orleans is more likely to blow out Cincy than either St. Louis or Seattle is to blow out the other, AND Deuce is more of a threat to cut into Brooks's numbers than the Rams running back committee is to cut into Bulger's.  Conclusion:  go with Bulger!  Sorry to buck the trend here! :-[

I've got Bulger owner bias working here, but, they're both as likely to go off huge as the other. Bulger is a lot less likely to get pulled in a blow out win or fall victim to going consrvative with a lead. Yeah, Martz and conservative. Tough call but you're in real good shape.

I like the Bulger matchup here Tony.

Brooks may be pulled here if they go up big. I am pulling for a Bengal victory!!! (So the G-men have a playoff shot!)
