Title: New York Giants Week 17 Analysis
Post by BarnabyWilde on Dec 27th, 2002, 5:25pm
So...it all comes down to this, does it? Week 17, at home, playing our bitter division rival, who leads the division with an impressive 12-3 record. The division rival who embarassed us 17-3 in week 8. Who had two players rush for over 100 yards that game. Who knocked out our starting wide receiver with a cheap hit.

Win, and we're in. It is as simple as that. Or is it? Can the Giants overcome the second best defense in the league? A defense that they piled up 348 yards against in the first game but only managed 3 points?

It will come down to this: whoever turns the ball over least wins the game. Can Collins have another mistake free game? Can Tiki run against this D? I guess we will all find out soon enough!!

Quarterback:
Collins threw for 251 yards vs. the Eagles in week 8, but no touchdowns, and, no interceptions. Tiki caught 92 yards worth of those passes, while Toomer had only 16 yards. This just shows you how impressive the Philly secondary is. This was the breakdown last game:

Running Backs: 110 yards receiving
Wide Receivers: 56 yards
Tight Ends: 69 yards

Collins will have to throw the short out to Barber or the quick over the middle to Shockey once again if he has any chance to open it up to Toomer and Jones.

Collins: 250 yards 1 td 1 int

Running backs:
Barber gained 79 yards vs the Eagles in their first meeting to go with his 92 yards receiving. Not a bad day for Tiki, but no td's. He still wont score this week, but he once again shold do fine running and catching the ball. Dayne has been useful as the change of pace back, and if the Giants should get a goal line opportunity, you'll see him get the ball.

Barber: 80 yards rushing, 80 yards receiving
Dayne: 30 yards rushing, 1 td

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends
Shockey once again is the key to the passing game. If he can open up the middle, maybe Toomer can break one off. Highly unlikely, but a big play may just win this one.

Toomer: 75 yards
Shockey: 70 yards 1 td
Jones:25 yards

I see a great low scoring game here. Like I said, whoever wins the battle of turnovers wins the game.

FINAL SCORE: GIANTS 20, Eagles 17. Or vice versa.  ;D

This game scares me a bit.  I'm not too concerned about an Eagles loss though because I think the Jets could very well beat the Pack on Sunday - in which case the Eagles-Giants game is irrelevant for the Eagles.  Even if the Pack does beat the Jets, I think the 35-0 at Lambeau record could be in jeopardy this year.  The Pack has narrowly escaped with wins against some weak teams.  Can they do it against the better teams??

BW, nothing personal. I'd just really like to see the Eagle's get homefield throughout. As a favor to you, I'll cheer EXTRA hard for Carolina!  ;)

Oh my!!! What a game!!

The Giants overcome 3 fumbles by Tiki, a pick, 2 questionable calls negating touchdowns, and a missed FG by Mr. Money, David Akers.

I said whoever had the most turnovers would lose, but the G-Men proved me wrong. They also caught a break on that hold on the pick in OT. Overall, a 15 round fight won by TKO...

Maybe I can score some Giants- 49er tickets!!

Well, you got that one.  Congrats to the Giants on sneaking into the playoffs.  It was a hell of a game.  I had 4 Giants fans and 6 Eagles fans, along with some non-partisans over and it was an interesting day...   [smiley=stars.gif]

Giants are coming to my part of the U.S.A. to play the Niners...I believe the Giants can beat SF, then move on to either Tampa Or Philly and compete there. Would rather play TB there, but let's not get ahead of ourselves...  :-X
