We all know that Rich Gannon's career was revitalized when he crossed paths with Chucky in Oakland. Gannon was the right fit for Gruden's offense and still continues to put up huge numbers.

Now, will the same thing happen to Brad Johnson in Tampa Bay? Brad has put up solid numbers this year, and if he was healthy all year he would have had 3700-27. I think he'll only get better and post better numbers next year. What do you guys think? Does BJ have the supporting cast to put up Gannon-like numbers, or does Tampa need to upgrade their skill positions in order to accomplish what the Raiders have offensively?

I know Steg will have a take about his boy!!!! :)

Like you said Barnaby, many other people also think that Brad Johnson could very well become the next Rich Gannon. I mean, they already got two very good quality recievers in Keyshawn Johnson and Keenan McCardell. They got the speed/recieving back Michael Pittman, and they got the power/goaline back in Mike Alstott. The same combo in Oakland with Tyrone Wheatley/Zack Crockett/Charlie Garner. The only thing they need is a speed reciever, like Oakland has in Jerry Porter. That is the main thing lacking in this Tampa Bay offense. Someone who can just out run the defense. Hopefully this void will be filled through Free Agency, because, they have hardly any draft picks...

First, in response to BarnabyWilde's initial query, yes, I believe Brad Johnson will be huge for the next couple years. I mean he is only 34. ;) Huge to the tune of 3,750+ yards and 26+ touchdowns for maybe 3 seasons. Part of that is the system, but part of that is also just Brad Johnson himself. He has shown that he can achieve big numbers, system notwithstanding. Remember, this is a guy who has a 4,000+-yard season under his belt, with much less of a team, the '99 Redskins, I might add. Bottom line, yes, he can put up Rich Gannon-like PASSING numbers, but he will never be effective rushing the ball like Gannon has been.

Now, with regards to KJ 76's comments, I am 100% in agreement with the picture he has painted. I have just one question, KJ... I have heard rumor that Gruden really doesn't like Keyshawn, so much so that he may look to get rid of him this offseason. Is there any credence to this? [smiley=hmmmm.gif]

There has been word that the two "don't get along", though, I guess you can make the comparison of the Terrell Owens/Steve Mariucci situation to the Keyshawn/Gruden situation. The similarties are that, they've gotten into arguements, and aren't neccesarily good pals outside of football, but, both parties have a respect for each other, and that's all that count. Gruden is not dumb enough to let a personal situation affect a personnel situation.

A guy that's really in Gruden's dog house though is Mike Alstott. I don't know why though...

Brad Johnson may be a sleeper QB next season, but he won't help himself at all this coming Sunday. His immobility and the Eagles pass rush will put him on the bench once again.

I don't know what Jon Gruden's thinking is, but I've always felt that the KJ hype is a lot bigger than the KJ production on game day.
To me - probably one of the most overpaid WRs in football. Based on actual production.
The Bucs would be much better off saying "so long" to Keyshawn Johnson and use his salary for another WR, and (perhaps) a better back (Pittman has been a disappointment). Or cap room.
