Title: Broncos - Rhodes Resigns!
Post by StegRock on Jan 11th, 2003, 11:16pm
Fellas, it's HOT off "the Gridiron Newsstand"!  Hear it from the "horses'" mouths for yourselves:

The speculation, at least in the piece in the Denver Post, is that he might go to Seattle to rejoin with Mike Holmgren.  It said that Shanahan "excused" him from his contract.  So, does that mean he is free to move on to another coaching position without the Broncos' receiving any compensation? [smiley=annoyed.gif] I just cannot believe that.  Wouldn't the Broncos be due something from the team that signs him?  Bottom line, what's up with this?  And, taking a step back, what do you guys think about the resignation, in general?

I could care less if he leaves. He obviously wasn't happy and if he doesn't want to be there, then what good is he anyway? I had no idea that the Broncos were ranked 31st in Red Zone Defense, that's pathetic.[smiley=thumbsdown.gif] This is just the next step in what appears to be a complete collapse of my beloved Broncos.:'( Our problems started before the season began with all the talk of Griese losing the starting job and we just never seemed to recover. If Rhodes is signed by another team, we had better get proper compensation.

It wasn't stated like it was new news, it was stated like

"Oh, I HEARD he was reuniting with Holgren!!"

I read the articles. I am not THAT stupid...    :P

Don't know what to think as  Chiefs fan. Rhodes as demonstrated in the past that he knows how to coach defenses. Shannahan's just not near as much defensive talent guru as he appears to be on the other side of the ball. Denver, you want Greg Robinson back? Be happy to oblige. ;D While their defenses have been decent more years than not, I don't associate the Broncos  as a strong defensive team. It's not their history. Outside the Orange Crush era, offense is where it is at for Denver. That points to the front office and their strengths and weaknesses as where the problem is. Ray Rhodes with the proper authority, again, speculation only on my part, would be a fine defensive coordinator.

Rumour has it that he may even return to Washington.

Here is the latest on the Ray Rhodes situation, from the Broncos perspective at least:

Here is a bit of a harangue from the Denver Post that covers Rhodes's departure as well as some other of the Broncos' pressing issues including that of QB Brian Griese:
