Title: Giants News & Hilliard Discussion Post by StegRock on Feb 6th, 2003, 1:39pm This was brought up on the "Brandon Lloyd" thread "between the 20's". I thought it should be addressed separately... Right after Hilliard was injured this past season, I thought I remembered hearing something about his saying he wanted to come back. I know this is totally contrary to what Hilliard stated he wanted last offseason and would be a desire inconsistent with his and Fassel's rocky relationship. But, guys, I honestly was thinking this yesterday, but wasn't 100% sure and couldn't find any sources, so I decided not to post it. Well, the proof is in the pudding. Here's the latest word from an exclusive interview Hilliard did with the Bergen Record within the last 24 hours brought to you by way of "the Gridiron Newsstand": http://www.bergen.com/page.php?qstr=eXJpcnk3ZjcxN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2JmZnYmVsN2Y3dnFlZUVFeXk2MzM4MDAy He definitely wants to return and Fassel claims he wants him to, as well. The article makes a strong case for that's happening. Edited to adjust the Topic! |

Title: Re: Ike Hilliard to remain a Giant!?!? Post by BarnabyWilde on Feb 6th, 2003, 2:22pm I for one would love to see him back, He has all the potential in the world, and I'd love to see him realize that with the Giants. Like I said, their offense would improve drastically with another decent receiver to throw to. Move Collins up your QB lists a few notches if Ike signs back with the G-men. |

Title: Re: Giants News & Hilliard Discussion Post by DirkDiggler on Feb 7th, 2003, 11:25am Well....according to fanball, it is not so clear he will stay: Quote:
Again, I say when it comes to money, Hilliard is going to take it and run to another team. I find it too hard to believe that he has a change of heart over one season. |

Title: Re: Giants News & Hilliard Discussion Post by StegRock on Feb 7th, 2003, 12:46pm If Hilliard did not get injured this year AND had a solid campaign, I would tend to agree with you, Dirk. However, he did get injured, pretty badly I might add, and his numbers ended up being just "eh." I just think that these cicumstances, especially the injury a la David Boston, decrease his value as a free-agent to the degree that the difference in the amount of money he would get elsewhere will not make it worth it for him to uproot his life. He is going to be a bargain anyway, as Fanball states, so, since the money is not going to be all too different wherever he signs, why not stay where you're wanted at least for another year? This is how I see it, at any rate. |

Title: Re: Giants News & Hilliard Discussion Post by DirkDiggler on Feb 7th, 2003, 1:18pm Quote:
Stegrock-- I see your point, however, I believe that Hilliard is going to be in high demand. Why? I think that both Price AND Boston are going to franchised based on everything I am reading. The other free agents out there are nothing to brag about. So Hilliard's value is going to probably be going to be higher than it ought to be because of the "lack of supply". So I do not see Hilliard signing back with the Giants, but instead saying, "SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!" I guess only time will tell which of us is correct...... |

Title: Re: Giants News & Hilliard Discussion Post by BarnabyWilde on Mar 2nd, 2003, 4:35pm Like I stated above earlier, with Ike back healthy, the Giants offense only looks better. With Hilliard, Toomer, Barber and Shockey, the Giants are loaded with weapons for Collins to play with. Kerry could have a career year, and he had a great year last year. Now if he could improve his touchdown total from last year, say, an increase in ten touchdowns, he'd be a great steal...this all depends on if the Giants can improve their performance in the red zone next season...look for them to do just that. |
